Quote:They fired the woman just because someone in her family is transgendered?? Where the heck do they live?
The most liberal state you could imagine.

Quote:The Peoples Republic of China?
Quote:Yeah.. a place so liberal tree hugging is a recognized religion.
Quote:They actually told her she was getting fired because someone in her family is transsexual?
Quote:I do not want to post anything publicly that would jeopardize a pending legal case, but in a word.. yes.
Their family was at one time very close to the family of their employer. Dinners, babysitting, etc. When one family member ultimately came out, it got very ugly. Some very deliberate and wholly irresponsible actions were taken specifically because the employer's family took issue with it. Beyond simple firing. There are multiple pending legal cases as the actions taken against this family go beyond employment termination. Specifically due to discrimination of their family member who came out as transgender.
Quote:That's just crazy. Hope they get a butt load of money from those sucky people.
Quote:There are small minded hateful people everywhere who feel it's their business to tell others how to live their lives.
Quote:My friend, I say this with nothing but affection for you in my heart, but the irony of this statement as it relates your position in this discussion is too much. For one second can you not consider that your own position is exactly what you just castigated? Or that because you believe that you are right that its ok for you to do it while saying I am all kinds of hateful names for not wanting you to tell me how to live my life?
Quote:You are equating elected leaders who make and pass laws based on our constitution with bigots who reserve the rignt to discriminate.
Again.. read the laws passed in 68 and 88. And accept them.
Quote:Nope, you saying slavery was ok because it was legal until 1865? Passing a law by any means does not make it right, only legal.
Quote:Enacting laws to provide equal protections makes those who no longer have the luxury to discriminate slaves?

Quote:Enacting laws that remove private property rights makes everyone a slave.
Quote:But there's no "equal" protection. A preferred minority is given government backing to bring a lawsuit for being evicted that a (say) white male could not.
Quote:Serious question. Where are white males discriminated against in our country? Where do they not have every privilege?

Quote:College.
So much easier for blacks and Hispanics to get into schools with lower GPA than whites or Asians.
Quote:The same colleges that were predominantly white for hundreds of years by design and economic privilege? You don't have to look further than Duval county to see certain zip codes spend more per student than others based on race.
Quote:The point isn't that white males are frequently discriminated against by landlords, it's that the law itself discriminates against white males in this case.
But if you are making a case for the frequency of discrimination, then you can't compare the occasional LGBTLSMFT discrimination to the wholesale discrimination against blacks in the 1960s. There was a real need to have a law back then because blacks were kept out of 90% of the rental properties. When you are dealing with an occasional baker who thinks making a cake with two men on top is against her religion, it's better to put freedom ahead of equality. There's another baker a block away who doesn't have that problem, and innocent people occasionally get caught by any law, so the less laws the better.
