What do you guys think is the real reason Bortles is not starting?

Does the coaching staff think Henne is better?

Are they scared Bortles may get hurt?

Also why does the media keep trying to make the fans seem like we are stupid and the coaches don't make idiotic decisions?

I am curious of the answers....

He's not starting because they bet on Henne.

You will get a lot of answers.

1. O-line sucks

2. He doesn't know the playbook

3. Henne knows the offense

4. Coaches are smarter than we are

The only logical reason would be that it would hurt Bortles' development. Anything other than that doesn't hold water.
Mod merged it but the title of the post was....

Blaine Gabbert was deemed better than Henne last year.

I think if Blaine had stolen Gabbert's line of "If you don't draft me, I'm going to beat you for the next 15 years", he would be starting right now.
Gus' comments on Henne today really frighten me.

can you give us a little breakdown on what he said?

Cyp news?
I'm at the same place I was weeks ago on this.

Henne will hang himself and the kid will start. One bad half isn't enough for the hook to come out yet. But they are probably polishing it up right about now.

The kid comes in by week 6 (maybe as early as week 4) and hopefully the O-line has at least stabilized a bit by then and McClendon has settled in a bit more.

I'd be fine with that.

What were they? Didn't hear them.

He's in the concussion program -- so they'll know more after today's evaluation with doctors.

The only one that matters...

Jaguars HC Gus Bradley on QB Chad Henne: "He performed efficiently."
Gus said had six dropped balls in second half. had opportunities. got to make sure ones thrown to us we catch.

Wonder if he counts the over throw to a 6'6" TE from 10 feet away a dropped ball?

He said he was good in the first half. Not as good in the second. I'm sure there were some throws he'd like to have back. Named a couple of throws that weren't good. Said that he was efficient and ran the offense. The timeouts were due to young WRs lined up wrong.

The comments debbie-downer is likely referring to were about him being efficient and "we feel good about him." The kind of stuff that coaches say in order to not publicly bash their players until they've been replaced on the depth chart. So that's not happening just yet.
I went with as early as week 3 but 4 isnt off by too much. I dont want Chad Henne to fail, but I figure he will.... either way Blake Bortles is this team's future so the sooner they can get him in there to start learning this year the better (provided the Oline is good enough not to get him killed) which is the real reason I think Chad's still starting...

One word comes to mind when thinking of how Gus views Chad... and that is ...

TOUGH..

well he figures Chad can take the licks and even if he cant hes not the vested future where as Blake is...

Efficient

adjective

1. performing or functioning in the best possible manner with the least waste of time and effort; having and using requisite knowledge, skill, and industry; competent; capable:

Now, tell me exactly what about Henne is "efficient".

I think the word Gus was looking for is:

Mediocre

adjective

1. of only ordinary or moderate quality; neither good nor bad; barely adequate:

Now, THAT is CHAD HENNE.

Someone get Gus a dictionary before he continues to insult the fanbase' intelligence.

As hard as his head hit the ground on that play has me concerned for him this season....

Coach Gus knows Henne's abilities. For Henne it was a pretty good game. For any good QB it would be considered a mediocre game and for an elite QB it would be considered a pretty bad game.

I didn't say it. Gus did. So you are asking the wrong person.

Typically this word seems to be used by coaches when referring to a QBs ball protection. He had two TDs and no picks. For Henne that's efficient. That's the best I can give you. I wasn't attempting to defend Henne. I've made my gripes about him public here for 2 and a half years now.
