They can say Henne is the starter.

They can say they will sit Bortles for a year.

They can say have a plan and they are sticking to it.

But there absolutely will be a competition even if it is heavily in favor of one guy. Its a cornerstone of Gus Bradley's approach.
Quote:Shouldn't you at least be a bit worry that our QB of the future can't beat out Henne?  I mean, we're not talking about Schaub, Hasselbeck, Palmer, or even Cassel.  It's Chad Frickin Henne...

It's got nothing to do with beating out Henne. That's the thing you clearly don't grasp.  The starting job is Bortles when all parties involved believe he's ready.  He has a lot of work that needs to be done in order for that to happen.  He's not a plug and play rookie, and he wasn't drafted for his rookie season.

I'm not one bit worried because Bortles is the starting QB for this team for the next several years if he meets expectations.  I see zero reason to rush him out there.  This is another point you're struggling to understand.

I am making a point in this thread about my very strong stance!

It will be good for you to agree with it! My strong stance is strong! You will not change my mind about it!

I am stating my strong stance on the internet so that everyone can be aware of how strong my strong stance is!

I'm convinced.

If you stand strongly enough, maybe they'll listen?

I'm standing as strong as I possibly can.

Oh, I don't know about that.  You may think you're standing as strong as you possibly can, but there's always a stronger stance to be taken.  Maybe if you added a harrumph to this?

He should cross his arms and get a stern look on his face too. That always helps.

Not to mention capitalization applied liberally.

Exclamation points.  Lots of exclamation points.  And appropriate emoticons too.  You can never have enough angry emoticons.
Okay, I've been working on this. You guys tell me how it looks.

Trying... :pinch: :pinch: :pinch:

Dangit, didn't work.  Wallbash

Lemme try again.  :pinch: :pinch: :pinch: ... :verymad:

The only thing Jake tore up last season was his foot. His 150 yard per game didn't scare anyone.

Sure, if you count his 9 attempt game when he got hurt. Otherwise he's just over 200 passing yards with 8 td's in 6 games. Far from all-world levels but better than sucking. So you don't get confused, that's just over 3200 yards and 21/9 td-int ratio over 16 games.

They will not be competing to be the starter week 1.

I don't see any sort of competition here.  Henne isn't fighting to retain the starting job.  He's a placeholder and nothing more.  Bortles is the long-term starter for this team.  But, Henne's job is to get the team through this initial phase to allow Bortles to develop.  I'm not sure how much more clearly the team can convey this.  If Bortles gets playing time this year, it's due to injury, or during mop up duty.  They're being pretty clear here.

I think you've got it.

As a father with a teenage daughter, I know I've seen the look above more times than I can count.  It's usually a good indication I'm doing my job.

To go along with this, Henne was told about the team's mindset going into the draft.  In other words, after signing him to a two year deal, they essentially told him that they are going to draft his replacement.  Contrary to the belief of some on this board, Henne isn't stupid.  He is a professional and knows what his role is.

Yeah, he's under no delusions that his term as the starter is a long-term thing.  He knows his role, and he has accepted it.

Trying to get that message through, but its not sinking in so I went back to basics and started over small LOL.

Locker doesn't scare anyone.  3,200 and 21/9 is not "good", especially fora  third year player.  Being healthy is part of the job description, and he can't seem to stay healthy for more than 3 straight games.  Even when he was healthy, he was just decent at least -- a far cry from "tearing it up".  He will be one and done in Tenn.
