Quote:Well I'm not sure they'll be "forced". Bortles will be on the roster for sure. But I think we'll likely bring in a vet. I don't think anyone in the draft is amazing.

Not sure what new HC wants to work with a vet over a shiny new QB with the 3rd pick or a trade for a guy he actually likes.
Quote:The dude opted out of his contract like tons of players do across all sports, I never understood the vitriol towards Marrone for doing the same.

Quote:I'm confused. Do you value loyalty or success more? He was successful in Buffalo but not loyal. He would have made a good interim HC here.
My thinking:

Marrone was in the process of turning around the Bills, and instead of seeing it through, he walked away for a payday that he was on his way to earning. I value success, but especially at the head coach position, you can't have success without loyalty. How could Khan trust a man with the development of the franchise after he's shown that he'll run away when a quick buck presents itself?

I could see trading. But what I'm saying is I don't think anyone will be worth the 3rd overall pick
Quote:For one, it should have been the second we were eliminated from the playoffs.

Yeah, last season.
They couldn't even let him get his 50th loss first? Typical jags not going for greatness.
Quote:Coaching search should be interesting with the candidate being forced to develop an offense around Bortles' strengths and an owners son who will be emailing him Excel sheets of analytics over the holidays.

That eliminates about everybody you would actually want.

As coach why wouldn't you want to know that completion percentages drop 5% on passes thrown over 15 yards into the wind in the month of November?
firegusbradley.com updated for the final time. I will secure firedavecaldwell.com this week and focus on my next target.

Wow went and ate dinner with family after the game, then I check here and I thought you guys were messing with me. Haha. Thank you and merry Christmas!

The provision in his Buffalo contract enabled him to leave if Ralph Wilson was no longer the owner.

The Bills agreed to that negotiated provision, and Pegula knew or should have known of its existence and import once he took ownership of the team.

Marrone was loyal...to Wilson. Pegula had a chance to earn Marrone's loyalty but didn't.

Question...

With this being a road game, does Gus get left in Houston/called a cab (etc), or does he travel back with the team?

He was on the team charter.
Lata Bradley! I do hope you and your family find a place to call home!

Few things to consider...

Marrone was hired under Ralph Wilson. The owner died and under the terms of his contract he could leave if a change of ownership occurred.

Marrone was stuck with a bad quarterback situation. Doug Whaley (their GM) along with Buddy Nix (their last GM) drafted EJ Manuel, he sucked and they got useful production from Kyle Orton. Orton retired and that left Marrone with a terrible quarterback situation - that can, and has, cost many coaches their jobs.

Marrone did not support Doug Whaley's decision to trade up for Sammy Watkins. There were apparently other disagreements as well.

Apparently Marrone asked for an extension and one for his staff as well, and also a pay rise. Pegula rejected this.

Another was that Marrone is a control freak and did not like the idea of a football czar being hired - they haven't hired one since he left, so if he was concerned about this his concerns were unfounded (unless of course the Bills didn't feel they need one with Rex?).

And one final thing is that apparently the criticism from the local media got to him and his family, so he took his pay day, packed his bags, and backed himself to get one of the jobs he interviewed for (Jets and falcons if memory serves?). He didn't get one of them, but did wind up here in a cushy job, no pressure, and better weather.
Wished Caldwell would have named a intern today being the short week ahead with the team playing on Saturday
I don't know why people are questioning the timing, i.e. Khan should have waited until the end of the season.

By firing him now they can actively search for a candidate without rumors flying all over the league casting a shadow over the entire team. I've always thought if you know you're firing somebody at the end of the season anyway, why not do it now.

This is the first week that I wasn't expecting it.

They won't be able to contact most of the coaches while the season is still being played. So no, this gives them zero advantage.
driving back from Georgia charged the phone and saw the news, that bad huh?

this was the first game in 20 years I didn't even bother following, took the kids to wild adventures was just tired of wasting my one day off on this garbage.

so it was that bad huh?

makes you curios why now and not 3 weeks ago? whats the difference now?

Well, I mean they could have waited until he got off the plane in Jax first. They let it go this long, could have not put him through that bus / plane ride.
@blythebrum Jack Del Rio clinches a playoff spot and Mike Mularky keeps playoff hopes alive on the same day Gus Bradley is fired. Ain't that something.
