He'll only get that if he earns it.

That's exactly what he's doing.  It's something he has done for a variety of subjects.

One guy is setting up his Caldwell is terrible speech, and a dozen guys are setting up their Caldwell is great speech.   I'm okay with it.   Dissent is good for a message board.
We should trade for Ryan Mallet.

If we don't trade for Ryan Mallet, this organization is not serious about winning the superbowl.

Dissent is fine for a message board, the problem is this is a repeated pattern that happens over and over.

If the Jags turn it around and are amazing he will say that he supported him all along, but if they keep tanking it for a couple years he will say he called it with the Eugene Monroe trade.  It's a recycled act.

Lies.

I'll never say that I blindly supported Caldwell all along. Thats what people like you do.

I will freely admit to being skeptical about Caldwell. After 14 years/ seasons of poop, anyone who isn't skeptical before these people prove themselves either doesn't have a pulse, or doesn't have a brain.

I certainly hope Caldwell proves to be a very good GM. I'll be skeptical until the results show "very good" level.

Nothing with this Monroe trade earns Caldwell praise at this point in time.

People like me blindly support Caldwell?  Where is the proof that I blindly support anyone on the Jags staff?

I'm a skeptic, I just dont push my agenda as hard as you do.

Well, I won't sit there and claim that I supported Caldwell all along as you claimed.

Should he pan out, I'll indeed say I was skeptical in the beginning and wasn't "sold" until success was proven.

And I totally disagree about that.

Everyone should have some skepticism.

But everyone should also give him a chance to prove himself.  It's hard to judge the Monroe trade, because Monroe had just a few weeks left on his contract.  You're not going to get much for a player like that.

Caldwell has yet to do anything that makes me think "Does this guy really know what he's doing"  Which is enough to warrant a little bit of faith.

Where did I once say you supported Caldwell along?  You really do make stuff up out of thin air.

Are you able to provide facts that there were other trades out there that Caldwell could have taken?  Unless you can do that, you can not say there was a better offer out there and we didnt get the value the Jags should have gotten.

What can you make up next?
I'm trying to catch, did we win or lose?

No, no, no.  You have to go back and read the 11 pages.  No cheating.

That's 216 posts.   If I were you, I'd get started now.

Well, it depends...

Basically, if Monroe walks to, say, the Dolphins for some ridiculous salary then we sort of did alright (although our comp would have been a late comp 3rd rounder at best, so really we probably did better).

If Monroe, however, ends up signing up with the Ravens, then we gave away a young top 10 tackle for a 4th and a 5th because we drafted another one. We lost big.

I would point out that Monroe only returned to form when he went to the Ravens. Not sure he would have graded out top 10 this season if he stayed with us. And something must not have jived with Bradley and Caldwell cause they dumped him fast. So I think we were always planning to let him walk, for whatever reason. Seemed like he soured on J-ville to me anyway.

So there you have the final breakdown:

If he goes to a different team than Baltimore: Win, although not big cause B-more gets that really late 3rd pick possible (basically a high 4th round)  Rating: 6/10 (with 0 being Gene Smith losing and 10 being charlie sheen Winning)

If he stays in Baltimore: Lose, we gave away a top 10 tackle who is 26 for a very cheap price, but we still got picks, and it seems like we were gonna let him walk anyway (4/10)

Oh and lest I forget, the trade is okay overall, but the fact that Caldwell made it is a totally different issue, and depending how you think could be a problem or good thing. Its a problem if you think Caldwell basically ticked off his good starting LT by drafting another so high when we didn't need one. It might be considered a good thing if you think Caldwell knew we would need a new LT and just grabbed one early (although this is really close to 'In Gene we Trust' kind of mindset). I would rate it as a questionable move, but it seems to be about the only one he has had so far, everything else seems pretty much normal to good.

I'm curious as to how it's a loss if he stays in Baltimore.  The Ravens could have signed him if we were intending on letting him go at the end of the season.  They traded for him in hopes of making a playoff run.  They didn't.

Unless I'm mistaken compensatory picks are also based on who you sign.  Meaning if we make some big signings, we wouldn't have gotten much (if anything) for Monroe.

I wasn't a fan of the Joeckel Pick.  But I think the trade comes out fairly even.  I think either way the trade is a 6/10.  Barely passing on the 10 point scale.

True but you also said you'd give him time, and you haven't really done that either.
