It sounds like Tavon Austin has been having a nice showing so far since he's been acquired by the Jags:

Listening to chaisson interview after training today, it’s hard not to like the guy, seems to have the right attitude and work effic. First time I’ve heard him speak to the media.
Agreed, I get a good impression from him.

I hope this translates to production on the field for him and all the others.

1) who is this LB?

2) 16-20 with 4tds? I can't handle it.

James O... Not the tight end we wanted but the tight end we need to save the tight end room.
Man, I sure hope this is a testament to TL and not a reflection of our D.
Here is the first unofficial depth chart for the Jaguars for this upcoming season, according to local reporter Demetrius Harvey:

For those of you who have gone to practices, I have a question. What does Dawuane Smoot look like? I've read where he dropped weight and got faster. Last year, I swear he looked like he was playing between 285-290 lbs. He was huge. If he has lost weight and he is closer to the 265-270 lb. mark he was when we drafted him, why isn't he listed as an OLB? Instead, we have 287 lb. Jihad Ward playing OLB? He should be on the D-Line, IMO. You need speed at OLB and Ward ran a 5.11/40 at the Combine. Smoot ran a 4.77/40 at the Combine. That is a HUGE difference in speed.

That's all good and stuff, but that speech by Meyer? That put's a lot of pressure on players. If we win, crime goes down? So if we lose, people might get murdered? That may not be how he intended it, but it kinda sounded that way.

You need to stop getting caught up in where people are "listed" at. It doesn't mean jack [BLEEP].

There's been multiple hints/reports about where players are lining up over the 2 weeks of training camp. Ward has lined up at DT, DE and OLB. Smoot has lined up at DE, DT and OLB. They're moving everybody around on the DL. Cross training guys has been a huge theme all throughout the off season/camps and not just along the DL.

They're going to rotate this DL (and I include the OLBs in the DL group) around a huge amount on this Defense. Allen and Smoot have been the two base OLBs plenty during camp.

He's actually been competent when he's completely healthy. Manhertz has been a bit better than advertised so far but still a weak point.

I just saw a clip within the last day or so where Josh Jones (?) was talking about how "crazy" the defense will be with blitzers coming from "everywhere" hand some looks showing 5 down defensive linemen.

If this is true, then you may well be right that a players official depth chart listing on defense will have less relevance than under "normal" or more traditional (for the Jaguars) circumstances.

As I think about it, I remember an article about how the 46 defense came to dominance. As I recall, one of its earliest games was against the Chargers and Hall of Fame WB Dan Fouts and Hall of Fame head coach Don Coryell. For those of you too young to remember/know, Coryell was one of the greatest offensive minds in football history, and that late 70s/early 80s chargers teams with he and Fouts was one of the most exciting, pass happy, high scoring offenses ever. The Coryell system was the basis of the Greatest Show on Turf Rams offense that won the Super Bowl in the 1999 season.

I wonder if Cullen has derived any inspiration from Ryan in his approach.

There were plays where they lined up three guys on the C and two guards. Fouts could not figure out how to set the protection.

As long as it's effective, I'm fine with it.

I'm way past ready for this team to win.
As a fan of blitzing, I'm excited to see that.

That was great to see on a lot of different levels.

Where is your reponse?

I don't know what's wrong. I wrote it 3 times and my response keeps getting cut out for some reason. I wrote that I'm a big fan of blitzing as well and since we've had such a "vanilla" defense for so many years, it'll be nice to see real aggression on the defensive side of the football.

I don't necessarily object to vanilla, as long as it's effective.

But we couldn't stop anyone last year.  We couldn't stop the run.  We couldn't stop the pass.

Just ugly all around.

That 2017 defense was pretty vanilla.

My only thing is the defense was talented enough to throw in the occasional wrinkle without putting the defense at much risk.

I wonder if an extra wrinkle or two in that AFC championship game could have stopped that collapse.

I believe it would. We showed no aggressiveness in that game. We just stuck to the game plan even though it wasn't working. It was maddening!

The defense wasn't the biggest problem.  The offense didn't bother playing the second half.

Don’t shoot the messenger, but this is a pretty thing for non local media to say
For whatever reason, Thorn has always been an outlier for how he grades our OTs. I've listened to him talk about our oline on some podcasts too, and he never really explains what he likes about them that every other oline grader does either...it's weird. The way he talks about them I think they are just guys he was very high on in the draft and he wants to hang on to those college beliefs and not the evidence of how they have played in the NFL thus far.

That said, if they can make incremental improvements (more than incremental to be fair) or if Little replaces one of them and plays at a high level right away then 15 isn't a horrible rank. It's just bad to grade them as if that is the case right now.
