The Best Liberal Meltdowns Over Elon Musk Buying Twitter

Twitter has been busy censoring conservatives for some time. The world's richest man believes major social media platforms should be havens for free speech because that would be best for the country.

Preserving freedom of speech is pretty damned important. Russian media portraying the war in Ukraine as a "special operation" and not allowing any other information into the country is a perfect example of this.

I couldn't care less about twitter. I find it to be another platform on which people virtually flog those they disagree with. Just what we need! I don't have an opinion of Musk one way or the other. I don't care if Trump ever shares one more opinion.

My "dog in this fight" is the hypocrisy of the left who are freaking out over a guy who says he wants to bring freedom of speech back to social media. His motives are beside the point. It's the left's reaction (and the reaction of twitter with their 'poison pill' option) that tells you everything you need to know about how these most powerful and influential big tech companies feel about freedom, not just of speech, but of anything else they find threatening.

This should concern everyone.

Will Musk follow through with his goal of free speech in social media? We'll see. I'm just glad someone with as much power (money) as big tech decided to fight back.

This right here in a nut shell!
People on the left cannot see anything negative about their side of the aisle.

That's what makes them evil.

It will be interesting to see if he actually stays off twitter. I wonder if he can be as effective using a brand new platform.

It's telling that Pocohantas Warren considers this to be 'a danger to our democracy' due to mis/disinformation or whatever. I guess outright lying and misrepresentation (by her) is ok, but of course I digress. The 'OUR' in her case only seems to apply to her liberal view, seemingly unchallenged by Democratic moderates (a rare to extinct species) which is proving to be its own special version of fascism.
It’s not just the prospect of Trump returning or unfettered free speech which has the left in a tizzy. They know Musk will take away the Twitter bots they’ve been leveraging as a force multiplier to make fringe voices seem louder than they really are.

Yep.
I don't use Twitter, Instagram, Snap Chat ..... and I only really scroll through FB. With the quality friends I have here on the Jags Message Board, I don't need any other interaction with humans.

Because they have been vaccinated/boostered against it. For decades.

Now that's the kind of hot take I come here for.
You sincerely think publicly traded Twitter wasn't fighting bots?
They were.
Fringe voices *always* seem louder on social media because people who have moderate opinions are not excited and not exciting.
If it only seems like the liberal fringe is there, with no conservative fringe, that's due to moderation policies silencing conservative voices.
You take that moderation away, and get direct fringe on fringe violence, the whole site gets more difficult to use and enjoy for everybody.
Am I right about this? We won't know for a long time.  As a private owner Musk has very little reason to tell us how profitable or engaging Twitter is over time.

One-liner fringe on fringe violence is ok as a snack, but I wouldn't want to make it my main meal.

You believe Twitter was moderating bots on the left?

I don't read the site, but I do read about it.
Bots are deleted whenever detected regardless of message.
From what I've read, there have been phases where bots took over Twitter, but for the most part it was real people posting things.
The problem is the moderation.  Fringe conservative voices often don't know how to be provocative and interesting without violating common moderation norms like not advocating violence, not advocating racism or sexism, etc.
Funny how it’s only just conservatives… Rolleyes

Fringe liberals simply advocate for socialism.  That's provocative enough to get the viral sharing going.  It's easier for them.

Plus the discount Filipino and Malaysian moderators allow it.  It's not racial, doesn't call for violence, etc.
Well, he intends for every user account to be authenticated which is something I’ve thought needed to happen a long time ago. You’re free to post anonymously pretty much anywhere on the internet if you like or in forums such as this, but in a place that allows for easy amplification such as twitter and other social media sites you should have to personally own what you post.

Now that is funny!
