Has anyone seen any compiled lists of prospects we interviewed formally at the combine?

Thanks! that cheered me up a bit. Some good prospectsthis year. Planning on watching them today compete.
There's some freaks of nature this year in the OL class with some versatility. Joe Alt is a monster. Amarius Mims is a monster. Tyler Guyton is a monster.

One of the AFC Scouts Shipley interviewed thinks we should take the best tackle at 17 and make them play guard. Wouldn't hurt my feelings.

There's some other promising prospects to be had later on as well. Bortolini out of Wisconsin. Lee out of Miami. Those are good players to draft and develop at G/C.

Just heard a great bit from Schrager on GMF. He said that all the coaches and GMs left the Combine before the big guys worked out yesterday. Then he said he "saw McDaniel and Doug Pederson...that was it".

Glad to hear that Doug's actions match our thoughts rather than all the whining going on about his words.

LaPorta is good on the Lions and is TE1 as well as option #2. Fact.

LaPorta in an offense that already had Ridley, Kirk, Zay (I don't even like Zay) and Engram (solidified TE1)? Still good but wouldn't have seen the field as much because he would be TE2. Therefore his production wouldn't have looked like it did in Detroit. He would have never even sniffed 120 targets in Jacksonville. That's the point.

You're also discounting Etienne from the receiving options here.

Fact of the matter is we didn't run a lot of 2TE routes because if we were bringing in an extra TE, it was to help the line buy a fraction of a second before TLaw was on his rear.

What if we're making the wrong comparison, and Strange was brought in not to clone Engram, but to clone (or improve upon) Farrell?

Strange isn't an Engram clone at all, he's a traditional tight end. Engram is a big receiver and Farrell is a traditional blocker. Strange is the guy they didn't have.

It's clear you arent very bright lol.  That would just open it up more for LaPorta being the opposing defenses can't just focus on LaPorta and St Brown. It wouldn't make him less dangerous it, it would benefit his game more if he had better weapons around him to where the defenses would have to concentrate on more than what he had in Det.  LaPorta was option number 1 at times last year and St Brown is better than any WR we have, LaPorta was just that good

Just like if we drafted Bowers this year he could make this offense deadly if we can fix the oline as well and he would likely have a Pro Bowl type season.  With that said, Lions have Jameson Williams, a top 12 draft pick, and Josh Reynolds who is a decent WR.  La Porta would of absolutely got his touches if he was a Jag last year, this offense was missing and needed another weapon on offense especially when Kirk went down.

Therein lies the rub - you're not going to be able to field 5-deep receiving targets every down and spend early picks on luxuries if you want the oline fixed. We simply don't have the funds to spend like fools in FA.

Kirk's injury coincided with someone else's injury that was extremely crucial to our offensive production. Was the problem really the lack of targets, or was it the other guy's bum ankle and the accumulation of beatings after 3 months of ineptitude in front of them?

More targets would have just meant more disappointment when CJB wasn't able to survive long enough to get the ball to any of the guys running routes.

While this is true, flgatesjag has been underperforming for years on this board. I think we've already seen his best and it's just not good enough.

yeesh it's getting catty in here.

....would that go here, or the CFB forum?  Big Grin

Remember Chris Naeole? Yeah. The free agent from the Saints. That was in the early 2000s. Since then? Zane Beadles, Andrew Norwell, and Brandon Scherff. Money didn't match the production. They should seriously consider drafting early for a guard.

Hmm, this seems pretty darned unlikely as you've stated it...

Peter Schrager Wrote:Many NFL coaches have headed back home (a handful never made it to Indy). There’s also some who went wire to wire. There may be a few more, but I do know Mike McDaniel + Doug Pederson have been here for every drill, every day.

If by "There may be a few more", he meant the scouting staff and GMs of all the other teams, then I'd buy it.

Michigan had a couple good ones last year...
Ok, after today here is where we are so far. Like it lump it, but so far this is what we have under contract for 2024. I put Hodges backing up Scherff because that is how the Jags had it before the Hodges injury. I would guess next week will begin the saga...

RT - Anton Harrison, FA or Draft
RG - Brandon Scherff, Cooper Hodges
C - FA or Draft, Luke Fortner
LG - Ezra Cleveland, FA or Draft
LT - Cam Robinson, Walker Little

Other linemen under contract for 2024. Not sure but these could be practice squad guys.
Chandler Brewer - Guard
Keaton Sutherland - Center
Darryl Williams - Center

I'm thinking we get Tyler Biadasz if we do get a center in FA. If we wanted Morse or Bian Allen we could have already brought them in.
Biadasz would be a huge upgrade.

Either of those or the Bill's Morse mentioned above would be great. It would also allow them the flexibility to only HAVE to use draft capital on only 2 players. (tackle and guard/center) Also, giving those two to not be thrown into the fire.

If they wanted Morse dont you think they would have tried to already bring him in before another team jumps on him?

We can go with that ... lol I hear you, but just like all the critics of our GM's handling of Josh's contract we really do not know what is occurring. So there just isn't any information (yet) to make a valid judgement. Someday it will all slip out.

I havent been one of the critics on the the handling of Allens contract because we dont know what hes asking for and we dont know what we have offered.

My bad, I wasn't accusing you, should have been clearer on that.

on another topic it will be interesting to see if they keep Cam and Sherff's salaries this year as placeholders for next year's need.

If we do keep Cam hopefully they can lower his cap hit as well.
