Why do some folks take joy in such things?

I think Dawand Jones in the 3rd would have been the right pick, i wanted Torrence in the 2nd. If we took Jones and Torrence they would have helped our run game tremendously and we would have Cams and Scherffs replacements on the roster and Harrison could go back to LT.   I still think Bigsby can end up a good pick though and i think he will have a much better year this year.  I dont have much hope for Strange, hopefully he proves me wrong.  They would have only been able to get one of Diaby or Torrence though not both, Diaby went before Bigsby

Torrence in the 2nd and Jones in the 3rd is what I would have done.  I think they were too hung up on ZBS instead of people movers.

That is very common for a backup IOL during camp.  I remember seasons where the Jags have only carried 8 OL on the 53.

1000% this ^

Been saying that for two years now.

I'm interested to see how Doug tweaks that zone run scheme this year. He's mentioned changing it twice now in pressers and I really hope they've cooked up a plan that will allow them to grind out short yardage conversions when they need them.

All of that said - yes we passed on two quality big OL prospects to select Tank and Strange.
Despite their rough rookie starts, the buzz from camp right now is very positive for both of them, especially Bigsby.
While I didn't like the picks, they may yet prove valuable.

Would still love to see a vet guard brought in for insurance now that Cleveland is banged up again.

FWIW - all I hear from every local beat writer and radio guy the past week is that Tank Bigsby is flat out balling in camp and looks like a stud.

Fingers crossed it's more than just camp flash.

My main concern has always been OL and now with guys nicked up, we really have to hope we have 5 healthy starters by September 9th.

Looking forward to seeing in preseason if Hodges is worthy of the hype and whether Javon Foster can handle some guard reps. His college coach swears he can play inside. I expect to see another vet IOL guy added this week for insurance, and probably another flyer taken after other teams make cuts. Just in case our young developing players aren't ready for backup roles.

I think that Tank is going to be fine. He is a hard nosed physical football playing Jesse that is taking a little time to adjust to the pro game.  It happens (see Jimmy Smith). Plus he is backing up a guy that was one of the most prolific players in ACC history. I would like to se more of a 1-2 punch with ETN and Tank with packages for both.

The dude is a ball hawk and should be the next player given a contract extension.

That is a beautiful thing!

Travon is going to be something special guys. I have greatly enjoyed watching him thus far and think that he is only scratching the surface of his potential.

I hope so. He’s already done something so few have done around these parts, get 10 sacks in a single-season. Maybe this is his breakout season.

Mark Brunell has one, too.

Simple math tells me Gabbert>Brunell. No two ways about it. Maybe we shoulda put the team into cap hell trying to get a ring with Gabby.

27 catch 2 TD season incoming.

If those 2 TD are game winners, I'll take it.
If Engram and Farrrell combine for 15 TD instead, I'll take it.
Stats ain't everything.

Depends which stats... I'm pretty sure the W and L stats are all that matters. Tongue

If the team wins the Superbowl there won't be much worry this year about wasted draft picks in 2023.

However, wasted draft picks piling up makes it very hard to sustain success in the NFL, and the Jags have been getting so little out of their draft position recently that it's hard to imagine it not causing the team to be looking up at the texans sooner or later.

Hopefully Strange gets to a point where signing him to a second contract makes sense for more reasons that just that he was so bad he can be signed for the vet minimum to be a camp body.

So I take it he's thriving with this new defense?  This is a good thing in my view,  and is our next all pro and big extension coming.

I hope we extend him.  Id like to see him extended before the season starts.

Been a little surprised how few teams have played starters. I know Week 1 of preseason is usually one drive but in the few games it's been all backups.

I'm guessing after all the injuries last season teams are trying to stay as healthy as possible with starters and judge depth. Could mean a few rusty teams first few weeks.

If it's an entrenched unit with little turnover on the roster or in the booth , I can see it. At that stage most of the power players have already been through the gamut of learning and using the playbook, game situations, and the like. Frankly if not for the churn at WR I imagine we wouldn't see much of our starting offensive skill players in the preseason, either.
