I love Scobee as much as anybody, but getting a pick and saving $3m+ for a kicker is a steal, the only way this trade looks bad is if Myers crashes and burns.
When he kicks the ball it actually does sound different, strongest leg in NFL
I just have a feeling Scobee is going to have some problems kicking in Pittsburgh. We'll see.

Someone posted a question Scobee had been asked a few weeks ago of the toughest places to kick. I am sure you can guess his answer.
I am very disappointed. Scobee was the most influential and clutch player on the team. A 6th round pick for him? Teams use those to wipe their [BLEEP] with.
IMHO the Steelers got a very good deal. Scobee is only 33 years old and is one of the best kickers in the league. Friggen Adam Vinatieri is 44 years old!
Instead we now have an unproven kicker. This reminds me of trading Monroe because we drafted Joekel.

Most influential?
Guess we can wipe our [BLEEP] with telvin n dmac too tyus?
In response to Shack Del Rio: That was currently on the team.
I can't quote for some reason.
Str8Fromthe904: I'm sure they're the exception, not the rule.

I am not following. How was he influential?
The backlash towards Caldwell is at a fever pitch in this town. I am hearing from folks I rarely even discuss Jags football with that are all kinds of booty hurt over this. I tell them that there is no room for sentiment in the NFL and that was a major problem for our previous GM, he was to close to the team having been employed by them for so long...well that and being a functional idiot.. Caldwell decisions are being made for the right reasons. Which ones pan out or not will decide his future.
From what I'm reading all involved felt Myers won the job outright. Bradley's commitment to true competition is real.
We need more players. We need more draft picks. After this year, Scobee would have likely asked for more money, and the Jags would have released him anyway.
Myers kicked well in preseason. We know he's got the leg. What's the problem?

The people most upset are barely even casual fans. And they are upset because either a.) they think Scobee is a nice guy or b.) they think this means they don't get a free sub.
Oh well disappointed but this is better than just cutting one or the other. I think this will burn us a little bit during the regular season but this is a kicker decision. Future value and cash savings and that is what a GM is paid to do.

Because it's a tough place to kick, I read the Steelers took their time to analyze who kicked well in cold weather.
Scobee must have ranked high on their list.
Quote:Most influential?
I don't think he really meant "influential". He just couldn't think of the right word to use.
I think he meant something more like "longest tenured" or maybe "most dependable" or even "one of the more recognized"
It was way too many years that Scobee and MJD were the teams best offensive and recognizable players and MJD has been gone for a couple of years now and even MJD had broken down at the end, which left Scobee as last man standing
(or should I say kicking)
I will miss Scobee as much as everyone else and only wish him well.
He will always be a very bright spot, especially during some of the darkest days in Jags history.
Times they are a changing.
Who is the longest tenured Jaguar now?

It's like us not finding a way to keep Drew Nowak or Dan Connolly.
Let the young guy go, and one as good or promising as him may not come around for several years.
"It's a young man's game."
Logs said last night on the TV show Jason Myers flat beat out Scobee head to head. That's not to knock Scobee, but to show how strong a showing he had.
But the most pressing of things:
I think Myers needs a horror flick nickname. After all, his name is a combination of Jason Vorhees and Michael Myers.

Longest tenured is correct but doesn't really mean that much. And is certainly not influential.
I just think people are getting way, way too emotional about this trade.
I believe it is Marcedes now that has played the longest.

You may be right.
I wish Scobee the best but he was bad last year. This is a great deal for us and getting any pick for a 33 year old kicker that had a bad year last year, on top of him making over $3 million a season, is a great deal.
Caldwell has shown to be pretty efficient with his late round picks. If this lands us another McCray type guy this deal is a huge win for us.
It doesn't even matter if Myers works or not.
I loved all the long range game winners Scobee would give us after our average at best offense would stall outside the 20.....
I'll miss him as much as the next fan really...
But....
we're talking about a K here...
