Quote:Henne isn't nearly as bad as the armchair GMs on this board would like to think. He's a good fit for this team as the backup QB. He struggled as the starter last year, but feel free to list the backup QBs who would have thrived behind that line, with those rookie receivers, and no running game. This is still a QB who has managed to put up more than 12k in passing yards during his career. He's also had his moments of success. The fact that he has the experience to start for some teams, but he accepts his role as the backup QB here speaks volumes.
I find it mildly amusing how Henne bashers say that anyone would be a better option than Henne to backup Bortles. That's an easy thing to throw out there as long as Bortles remains healthy. If he gets hurt, your viewpoint would be blown to bits.
If Blake gets hurt the team is in huge trouble with Chenne at qb considering he won't throw more than 15 yards downfield unless someone is streaking wide open. There are only so many games you can win with such a gun-shy qb.

The Cowboys are screwed if Romo gets hurt.
The Saints are screwed if Brees gets hurt.
The Steelers are screwed if Roethlisberger gets hurt.
The Broncos are screwed if Manning gets hurt.

It's often the case that a veteran scrub will beat out a young scrub.

The Saints were 7-9 last year

Quote:It's clear we haven't watched the same Henne. Fitzpatrick, Hoyer, Taylor, and Cassel all look better than him.
Cassel at least isn't gun-shy and will win games. I hope Caldwell is ready to snag him when the Bills release him.

My bet is that he is way more knowledgeable about the game than you are.
A person who doesn't even understand how pre-season power rankings work has no business questioning someone else's football knowledge.
You've shown yourself to be about as ignorant of the NFL as it gets.

It's not like there's a Pro Bowl roster of backup QBs in the league.
I know you've got a man crush on Matt Cassell. I see a guy who can't win a roster spot on a team that is almost completely void of QB talent. This is the guy you are dreamy over.
The expectation here is that this team sinks or swims on what Bortles is able to accomplish. Not his backup. There isn't anyone available who is going to be signed here who is going to be more familiar with the play book or the personnel than Henne. You and the rest of the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence crowd are just going to have to accept that reality.

The guy that might lose his job to EJ Manuel?

I am wondering if maybe since it's been so long since we've had a good quarterback that they forgot the drop off between he and the backup.

The way Peyton has played lately the Broncos might be better off with Brock Osweiler. Indeed many teams are screwed if their starter goes down, but that's no reason for the Jaguars to be one of them. Some teams do have the depth to muster such a loss.
