Maybe a QB will hit the waiver wire during cutdowns. I was hoping Tuel might be the answer, or Morris, but I don't really care for any of them. Granted there are backups that actually look worse than Henne, but that's no reason to keep him. The bottom line is that check-down Henne is not going to win you games

He also tries to act like real QBs.  Did you see last night when he faked right and then threw back to his left and it was WAY off.  Should have been INT.

How many waiver wire back up QBs are going to win you games? The truth of the matter is that if your back up QB has to see the field for any extended amount of time your season is most likely shot unless you have a top 5 running game and defense to go with it to hide your QB flaws.
Im not a fan of his price tag either

His price tag doesn't hurt the team in the least.  Until there is a better option he's not going anywhere and you're not likely going to find a better option at this point.

Quote:Why not trade for Tebow or sign Vince Young? They have proven that they can win football games. Or call up Favre out of retirement, I'm sure he could outplay Henne right now.
Wow.

The level of dumb in this post is pretty tough to beat.

"We're"
Joe Montana is a free agent, maybe he'll come out of retirement.

At least people are worrying about the backup QB these days and not the starting QB I guess...

Quote:When will he be released?? His play has been miserable all off season, hell his entire career! just don't see the point in his service anymore..Please Caldwell wake up and get rid of this bum!

Henne was not good last night. He was OK against the Steelers.

Bad games happen. Eli was even worse last night.

I should have made it more clear that I was joking. Lighten up, big man haha.
The backup QB is suppose to close out victories. Not make crazy highlight throws, but make some average passes and get to FG range. If Blake ever goes down this year and Henne has to takeover, we're completely screwed. Checkdown Chad isn't going to cut it. And 4mil a year? What??? He couldn't complete a 20 yd. pass for 10 bucks if his life depended on it.

Replacing Henne as the top backup with a waiver claim QB that has zero experience in the scheme and is unquestionably worse. Sounds like a winning formula for me.

Henne is the best backup option for the Jaguars right now, and he isn't going anywhere this year. Deal with it.

I love how the only part of the thread title that showed up in your link was "jags-cut-henne"  Laughing

Careful, you might get some people's hopes up only to have them come crashing back to the depression they're currently fighting over the backup QB job.

Well, it's Khan's money if you want to get technical. But as fans "we" typically means the team. I think most here get that.

...although if you want to get even more technical, "we" as fans kind of do pay by filling up the seats and buying merchandise, etc.

Generally speaking a waiver wire claim won't improve the team much, but once a year when the cut-downs to 53 occur, it's not quite the same. There are several teams out there with three or even four good qbs intent on cutting one of them. McGloin for instance might get cut by the Raiders, and he's probably a better option than Henne. The numbers game when it comes to finalizing the roster almost funny that way. Every year some good players get cut.

McGloin knows the offense Olson ran in Oakland, yeah, but the offense isn't exactly the same here. Two more points worth noting:

1. Aside from one deep reserve at receiver, I believe McGloin has played exactly zero reps behind this offensive line and with these backs and receivers.

2. When McGloin did play in Oakland, he was not appreciably better than Henne (if at all). 56.5% completions, 9-10 TD/INT ratio (4.3% of passes intercepted), 7.3 YPA, 74.5 career passer rating. Henne's numbers, for comparison: 59.3% completions, 58-63 TD/INT ratio (only 3.2% intercepted, though), 6.6 YPA, 75.5 career passer rating.

The only area where McGloin clearly wins is YPA. Even though Henne's TD/INT ratio is worse--and it isn't worse at all if we only look at his time as a Jaguar--his career INT % is over a full point lower. The simple truth is that if McGloin were better than Henne at this point in his career, he wouldn't be losing his job to Christian Ponder, and potentially his roster spot. There's absolutely no reason to believe that McGloin would be a better QB than Henne this year. I'm not opposed to stashing him on the roster for the future if the team feels like he can be the top backup in 2016, or on the practice squad if he somehow clears waivers, but cutting Henne in favor of a guy that spent training camp with someone else and expecting that QB to be able to walk in and play week one if needed is just nuts.

Moral of the story: a guy not being named "Chad Henne" does not automatically make him a better option than a guy named "Chad Henne". To borrow an old Vic line, help is not on the way. Henne is our backup this year for better or worse. He's not a capable long-term starter, and if he was, he'd be starting for someone.
I think they also need Henne this season to soak up salary cap space...  Jags have been way under the cap and they have to spend some money by the rules of the CBA ...   Not sure what their status is but here is one estimate that still shows Jags #1 in cap space...

Ha! Good point! Usually the backup QB is the mystical unknown everyone pines over just knowing he could come in and be the next great QB! So, I guess because everyone knows Henne is definitely not that we should just cut him.
