Quote:The Packers backup right now is Scott Tolzein. A guy who started two regular season games in 2013. He had 1 TD and 5 INTs. So what concept do they understand exactly?
Different regime. My point stands. Henne is a bottom feeder with zero potential to improve. He is only a hair better than Gabbert. We can do better than Henne.

We need to be grooming someone that can develop into something good. Worst case that person will yield us draft picks.
As bad as some think Henne is, looking around the league he could probably start elsewhere.

There are a lot of QB situations worse than ours when considering starter/backup combos.

There's no reason he couldn't, at worst, compete for the job in Houston, Cleveland, Buffalo, Jets, and Washington.  Several other places he could do no worse than here as a backup.

We could do a lot worse than Henne as our backup.  Preseaon showed there are a lot of backups out there struggling pretty bad.

At the same time, I agree we need to constantly keep looking for a young guy of the future to bring in.  Whatever your opinion of Henne, Morris isn't likely to ever be better than Henne - so he certainly isn't the young guy we need to push for that job.

That's pretty much my thinking.
Henne isn't nearly as bad as the armchair GMs on this board would like to think.  He's a good fit for this team as the backup QB.  He struggled as the starter last year, but feel free to list the backup QBs who would have thrived behind that line, with those rookie receivers, and no running game. This is still a QB who has managed to put up more than 12k in passing yards during his career.  He's also had his moments of success.  The fact that he has the experience to start for some teams, but he accepts his role as the backup QB here speaks volumes.

I find it mildly amusing how Henne bashers say that anyone would be a better option than Henne to backup Bortles.  That's an easy thing to throw out there as long as Bortles remains healthy.  If he gets hurt, your viewpoint would be blown to bits.

LOL... Morris.

Yup, that's why he's kicked Henne to the curb.

Have another, homie.

Has he won any significant amounts of games tho? ...........

You will defend literally any player on the roster, no matter how terrible they play. We're talking Chad freaking Henne!!!!! But when it comes time to part ways, you will have known all along that Henne was terrible.

Actually, I knew before he got here that he was horrible.

Just saying.

My problem is if Bortles goes down, we lose instantly. Henne doesn't win you games.

Jags02 is the only moderator that has a sense of humor and understands how bad some of our players are. The others have sold their souls to the devil to become a moderator, and if they say anything bad about a player, they die.

What's funny is how they act as if he is the worst QB in the league but yet he clearly outplays guys like Mike Kafka, Jeff Tuel, Stephen Morris and Matt Scott.

I'd argue that Morris has improved and looks better than Henne, but they're both trash, so there's no point.

You must not be talking to the right moderators.

By your definition, most every backup is "trash". Hell, you have teams starting guys like Luke McCown, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Tyrod Taylor and Brian Hoyer. Talk about trash.

So what is your point in mentioning Green Bay as a team that gets it when their backup is a guy who been horrid when forced to play?

Chenne

18-35 career

5-17 in Jax

Bortles

3-10

At least you were right about it being your problem.  Of course your starter will win you more games than your backup.

It's kinda why they're the backup... and not the starter.

While he isn't likely to win as many games, the "we lose instantly" quip is more descriptive of your insecurity and fear than reality.  This team is better than the ones Henne was running to a 5-17 record.  It's also better than the one Bortles ran to a 3-10 record.

Are we having a bad armchair GM moment to think it wouldn't have been addressed if it's so pressing?  QB is the most important position, after all.

And have an extremely poor sense of humor.
