The Jags can't use 5 RBs. I wonder if Pierce has any trade value. Hard to make a trade at cutdown time, but there must be some teams that need a RB.

Keep 5 RBs, try to trade Pierce and then bring back a LB?

They can easily go 5 RBs.

QB - 2

RB - 5

WR - 5

TE - 4

OL - 9

DL - 10

LB - 6

DB - 9

ST - 3

There is your 53.
Quote:If you think he's only been getting .5 yards then maybe you aren't watching or you need new glasses.

He's had some moments during preseason, also some minimal gains. He had lots of .5 yard gains last season. In my opinion (opinion means maybe someone doesn't agree with you - I know...hard to believe, right?) Gerhart is not needed on this team. At this point he is 3rd string at best. I think Pierce can do what he does and more. Grant has enough skill set to warrant giving him an opportunity with this team also.

Anyways....bringing it back to the topic of Grant and leaving the love fest for Toby to a different post...Grant offers this RB squad something that it doesn't have
Pierce : Gerhart :: Grant : DRob
I'd rather keep Grant.

I know people say DRob can return kicks but I'd rather keep him fresh for offense if at all possible.
Quote:No, you see, it's not that it's a ringing endorsement. It's a false endorsement. He's not better than Pierce, Gerhart, or Johnson. You'll see soon enough.
I beg to differ!! What has Gerhart, Storm , and Pierce done? Lets not forget Grant is a rookie that has made more explosive plays then the other rb you suggest hes not better then...
I'm not sure they can justify 5 RBs. Grant has flashed too much to stay on the practice squad.

I think Pierce may end up being the odd man out. He is solid at everything but that is most important for a back that is expected to get a lot of touches and he just isn't going to have that role on this squad.

I think when you have a line up that is going to be run by committee, you need to keep the people that excel at different aspects of the run game.

I think Pierce would be a better fit elsewhere.

I think you're confusing Gerhart and Yeldon, whose ypc really is around .5. Smile

Gerhart - goalline/jumbo

Yeldon/Robinson - co-starters

Pierce - depth and trade value

Grant - ST and "weapon"

I don't see how you just cut Pierce without recouping some value, and you certainly can't cut Grant.

Regardless, looks like the Ravens were far too premature in letting Pierce go.

I would cut Toby before Pierce but that's just me. Jags say they want to be a running team (with no fullbacks mind you) I don't think its crazy to keep 5 RBs.

Guaranteed they keep five. Somebody is bound to get dinged evetually and you don't want to regret dropping a serviceable option.

On a somewhat similar note, I initially had high hopes for Johnson when they drafted him. He sucks.
Trade Pierce to Chicago for Willie Young since behind Forte is Jacquizz Rodgers.

Keep Grant.

Keep Grant.
The Jags would be set for the future if they could keep stocking up late picks that easily.
I say you don't give grant many carries I'm the game......till the 4th quarter and use then fresh speedy Gonzalez legs to burn up the d all day.

You are very close if not dead on
I don't see the Jaguars getting much in terms of a draft pick for Gerhart or Pierce.

I'll do a player for player trade for one of our areas of need.

I was suggesting recouping value. Either trade Pierce (I don't see any of the other RBs being traded) before the cuts, or keep 5 RBs and try to trade Pierce after the cuts. Cut the 5th CB or 6th LB instead, and bring him back after the trade.

Of course this is contingent on being able to trade Pierce. If that's not possible then you keep 5 RBs, go short at another position, and pray for some luck.

True.

But if you keep them, they can help you, particularly if the injury bug bites. (Not just the Jags, but other teams who may be desperate for one later.)

If you let them go, they can't help you at all.

Not for Gerhart with the big contract plus an injury. Pierce may have value to other teams.
