You wanted Nora Turner. Guy is the textbook definition of mediocre.
Quote:Last two games were against terrible secondaries. Offense would have looked good under Olsen.
The last game under Olsen was Oct. 27 at Tennessee-one of those same bad secondaries we faced in the last two games.

I don't consider that game particularly memorable for Bortles.
I'm inclined to view Hackett as an 'okay' choice. He may not be the next 'greatest thang' to be here, but he'll do. I have to also say that I'm in agreement with BklnJag and Hurricane about Gus. To be certain, Gus was not the guy we needed for head coach; however, it's oversimplifying our issues to imply that Gus was what it was all about. We have an unpredictable quarterback in Bortles and essentially the same personnel that helped lead us to a whopping 3-13 record.

I was never a fan of Gus here, but I also think that our failure to produce wins is the responsibility of more than our former head coach.

Terrible Hire. :pinch:

Expect more of the same next season.

At least it's not Chip Kelly.

"This fanbase." There's that moronic phrase again. I see, in this thread alone, that it's pretty split among "this fanbase."
Quote:I think Hackett and an offseason like two years ago can help Blake return to his 2015 form. Unfortunately, as most people agree, 2015 wasn't good enough.

2015 Blake with the team we have now probably wins 6-7 games. He needs to return to that form and then take another significant step forward before we can discuss playoffs.

I think the odds of that are slim, but possible.
They won 5 games in 2015 with a horrendous defense. If 2015 Blake comes back, limits turnovers and the defense continues to ascend, I can guarantee you the Jags win 8-10 games.
Quote:"The #Jaguars under Nate Hackett since Week 9: red zone efficiency went from 16th to 5th; rushing yards per game from 30th to 5th."

and how many games did they win since week 9?
In the last 9 games with Hackett, Blake had 7 interceptions. In the first 7 games with Olson, he had 9 interceptions. In the Jags last 8 losses, they lost by an average of 5 points.

No one has any idea how this hire is going to go but I'm obviously willing to give this man a chance. The whole offensive unit apparently likes him and if Blake goes to Cali and gets in shape (which I think he will) you could see a whole new offense. If they go out and spend money on a good guard in FA to open up some holes for whomever is RB next year, we might have something.

Hackett won't be running Olson's offense. I am interested to see what he can do. I am way more at ease with him than I would have been with Chip Kelly.

ditto ^^^

This. All new phenoms have to start somewhere. We could very well be lamenting the fact that Hackett is off to be a head coach somewhere after next season. Who knows? I'll let time tell the story and hope for the best.

The more I think about it, the more this makes sense. Sure, Hackett took over after Olson was let go but true impact, at least in my eyes, wasn't until Marrone took over. Then you consider that Marrone has taken Hackett with him to three different teams and it's a really logical conclusion to think that Marrone has a comfort level with him and his coaching ability.

Don't get me wrong, I'm kinda smashing the "I believe" button on this one but it easily passes the common sense test.

Hackett is Marrones boy. Its a marrone hire. Marrone will be judged on this hire. Hopefully it works out.

More games than Chip Kelly.

Cant argue with any of those obvious statements.

Hackett, the son of Bill Walsh disciple Paul Hackett, was a quality control coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Bills from 2006 to 2009. Nathaniel Hackett oversaw a massive overhaul of the Syracuse offense this season, focusing on a stripped-down, no-huddle approach.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport passed along word that Hackett leaned heavily on the Bills' playbook from the 1990s with the famed K-Gun offense. That's largely what Hackett ran at Syracuse in 2011, and the Bills are expected to take the same approach, with New Orleans Saints principles mixed in.

Hackett believes in run heavy.

Olsen, not so much.

Hackett likes the K-Gun, which is up tempo no huddle.

I don't think it's gonna look the same.

But whiners gonna whine.

I don't love the idea of keeping so many of the same ol dudes around. But under the guidance of TC... and the idea that its Maronne's team now with Hack as OC instead of some interim guys using old coaches books makes it palatable

There's about 1% of the Jaguars fanbase on this message board.

The hyperbole is laughable sometimes.
From this past year's "wonderful performance" team, assistant head coach is promoted to head coach and both coordinators are maintained. Sounds like a winning plan to me.

I understand why a lot of folks feel this way.

You'll just have to hope that since Hackett ran Olson's offense and Wash ran Bradley's defense you're going to see something very different come August.
