Quote:So then why are you so upset about some Coughlin hires?
I'm not upset at all. I hope I can be proven wrong. My beef is with people hyping Hackett as if he was Bill Walsh's illegitimate son. It looks like TC went a long with Marrone on this one since its Marrones guy and all. Like TC said its a team effort. But if Marrone's wrong it'll be strike one on Marrone.
Quote:Again, who is saying Bortles was anything other than terrible this year?
I'm waiting...
Wait all you want. You'll keep waiting for Bortles to perform like the QB he isn't. That's your prerogative.

Ummm, TC?
Where has anyone hyped Hackett to be anything other than a noticeable improvement over his immediate predecessor?

No, it'll be on Coughlin. That's the matter of the fact. For days people wanted to harp on Coughlin being the decision maker. He's the one with the final say. It was reported that Marrone had to get all coaching hires approved by Coughlin.
He approved the hiring of Marrone and encouraged it. He has blocked Marrone from hiring people. He is the one approving these coaching staff moves. If he's the one with the final say, it all falls on him at the end of the day. They're working together sure, but Coughlin clearly is the dictator here.
Quote:I never said the team not showing up was an indicator of the OC more than the HC. Doesn't change the fact our offense was no where to be seen and we literally did nothing in the entire first half and didn't put up points til we were down by like 24+. Even an OC with a lifeless team should be able to muster up more than that against a defense that people keep saying is bottom 3 in the league, no?
You hate to see a team shut out in a half, but it happens. I can't judge Olson based on a half. In addition Gus's teams were always unprepared. I judge Olson on his entire body of work (which is below average), and his inability to address Blake's mechanics during the season. Based on that, I am glad the bubblescreen greasehead is gone. When Hackett took over as OC he went up against some tough teams, but because bobblehead was the gameplanner and inadequately prepared his teams Hackett's offense looked similar to an Olson offense. Once Marrone took over, we saw a difference in how the team was prepared. I would love to see a Hackett offense against a top defense with a team prepared by Marrone. Once that happens, I will have an opinion on him as an OC.

Can we assume Grant is our #1 RB and our Running Game is fixed too?
You're attempt at humor has some substance.
Grant have us our best single game from any of our RBS all year.
Go figure

this is a weak bait and switch

We are actually all, including TC and DC and Marone and Hackett and he'll every jags employee and fan...
We are all going to sink or swim on Blake's play.
Even if we bring in a vet fa QB and draft a QB.
If Blake stinks it up.
They probably won't pull him for 4 games or so.
Well be 0-4 or 1-3.
And then what?
Some half baked vet or rookie comes in and does what? Lol wins 3 or maybe 4 more games?
And we're what ?
A 5 WI. Team who's gonna get an entire new coaching staff and AND draft another rookie QB who probably won't win a bunch of games for us until he's got a few years experience?
So yeah...
As Blake goes
We all go...
Hackett as OC will hopefully help Blake get better.
If not.... Doug is gonna sit his [BLEEP] down...And were scrounging for sure then...Maybe for 2 or 3 more years.
Quote:The team as a whole played like trash because they were unprepared by Bradley, not because Olsen offense. Marrone as HC and Olsen offense and you don't think the offense would have done decent in the last two games? Believe me, more than anything I wanted Olsen gone. Those two teams absolutely suck on defense. Using fan votes to run plays from the stands could have worked against them. Hackett shouldn't be praised as some sort of God like most of you guys are doing based on two games. I'll reserve my opinion on him when he actually goes up against a top defense, then we will know what he is all about.
You're conflating two separate arguments. The Jags offense, especially the running game, was much better under Hackett. That's true of the games under Gus as well as the last two games. The last two games only show what a hindrance Gus was to the overall performance of the team, something with which you seem to agree.
Bortles looked better the lat two games than he did in the previous 14, even just looking at the two games against the same teams. His delivery was sharper and he seemed to scan the field better. Bortles stated that he worked on his footwork those last two weeks. Was Gus the reason he didn't do that earlier in the season? Maybe.
I'm not as down on Bortles as most people here. I still remember he shattered the team TD passing record in 2015. Brunell, with Smith and McCardell as targets, never had more than 20 TD passes in a season. If the problem is mechanics then I'm optimistic that spending the offseason with Tom House will get Bortles back to the 2015 level. In any case there are no better options at QB this coming year unless Allen suddenly gets a lot better. Glennon, Hoyer, Taylor, Fitzpatrick et al. aren't significantly better than the 2016 version of Bortles.
Like I said before, we'll know for sure by next November.
I think the X-factor here people is very simple. Coughlin will have Bortles on a short leash unlike Gus. Bortles apparently also had all kinds of nagging injuries. Lets see who Coughlin brings in as competition and if Bortles' can prove last year was just a bump in the road. Hackett will be fine. The real problem of this entire team last year was allowing mediocrity without punishment. I FEAR for the player who screws up first whether it be off the field or on it.

Actually it'll be on Marrone. TC has kahns support. TC will have final say and if he says Marrone or anyone needs to go, guess who Kahn is going to listen to...

TC is the one who recommended the Marrone hire... Khan is the one who's taking a step back when he hired Coughlin. He's the one who said TC has the final say right? Right? Yea that's right, that's what multiple people have been barking up about for the past few days... Right?
Barking up about how TC has the final say and how he's going to lead this team to the promise land. He recommended Marrone and signed off on him. He blocked some of Marrone's hires and brought in guys he wanted instead. He signed off on Wash and Hackett.
TC is the one who's going to lead this team to the promise land, or not, right? I know simple logic may not be the easiest for you to grasp, judging by some of your previous posts, but TC is either hiring/approving of this coaching staff or he isn't. You can't spin it both ways to try and favor your opinion in certain coaching hires.

my opinion is my opinion and in my honest opinion TC let marrone hire his buddy hackett. Therefor if he falters the error will be marrones. That's my opinion. Like it or not don't matter to me.
I think Hackett and Marrone have a pretty cool thing going on that involves getting the most out of Blake until its time to give up.
I'm good with that as long as that involves beefing up the O-line and run-game.
It also bodes well for our struggling QB that he won't be learning a completely foreign offense. It will be different - but much more familiar than other possibilities since the coaches will relate their thing accordingly to what he's been doing the past two years.
Quote:"The #Jaguars under Nate Hackett since Week 9: red zone efficiency went from 16th to 5th; rushing yards per game from 30th to 5th."
That at least makes me feel somewhat better. But what happened to passing yards and TDs tho? We know they went down. Its hard to be too thrilled.
Chip wouldve been like adding sugar to grits (with Marrone n Coughlin n Wash. I mean sure, sugar is all nice and sweet, but in grits? It would just throw the whole thing off. I guess some people love it though.
Quote:Yeah you have a point although he'd played against both of those secondaries before and looked like crap. What was different? (Hint: the HC was gone.)
You are right about the Titans first game, but not about the Colts.
The tone after the Colts game was that he played very well, took what the defense gave him, minimized mistakes, and led the team to a win that would turn around his season.
Pretty much the same tone as many are feeling now going into the offseason...
I think Hackett and an offseason like two years ago can help Blake return to his 2015 form. Unfortunately, as most people agree, 2015 wasn't good enough.
2015 Blake with the team we have now probably wins 6-7 games. He needs to return to that form and then take another significant step forward before we can discuss playoffs.
I think the odds of that are slim, but possible.
Quote:Ummm, TC?

I say he's the next Jim bob cooter but that's just me lol an he's a nobody too
I am perfectly fine with this going into 2017. We saw an improvement in the ground game under his play calling during the tougher stretch of the season defensively. And that was with a revolving door occurring on the offensive line between a few positions. This also enables Hackett to focus on more of his ideas with what he thinks may work better for his personnel.
Bortles seemed to have better QB ratings and completion percentages under Hackett compared to Olson as well. The ultimate key this off-season will be Bortles' going back to the drawing board to work on his fundamentals and foot work again. We certainly need Robinson to improve his catching ability. Just need Hurns and Lee to stay healthy as well.
If we can get the 2015 Offense coupled with the 2016 Defense this is a team that should be flirting with a minimum of 7 or 8 wins in 2017. And I think that's a fair expectation. And I feel that's pretty much what Coughlin laid out for this organization the day he took the VP position. I am still going to hold back some of my excitement until I see what happens with free agency and the draft.
But so far I like virtually every coaching move they've made with this staff with the exception of Jerry Sullivan being let go.
