Quote:So medical professional #2 has it. Flew from Cleveland to Dallas the day before showing symptoms.

All those that think we should bring them here, would you want to be on that plane?

We "know" for certain it's not airborne.
I wouldn't want to be on the plane because I wouldn't want to come into CONTACT with anything the patient has come into contact with.

Um, thats my point.
Quote:Is your answer to never bring patients back here? Never study the disease, never research treatment and containment methods? Refrain from doing anything about the disease within our borders because people might get the idea they have a better chance of survival here as opposed to Africa?

Anyone with any knowledge of how the world works knows they will receive better care here than in West Africa.

Why do you keep insisting on equating not bringing patients back here to not doing anything ever again with studying Ebola? Do you think it makes your argument sound better if you throw silly statements in the mix? No one in this thread has even remotely said anything about not continuing research on the disease, yet you keep throwing it out there like they have.

Don't you think it would be better to go to the source of the problem and study the multitude of people and critters that have it? There is a reason why Ebola outbreaks don't randomly pop up in other parts of the world unless carried there by others. What makes that area the hot spot? Don't you think studying that might help in finding a vaccine or even a more effective treatment for the diesase?

Just stop, you're not helping.

Liberals don't hate America, they might have a different idea of what makes it work but they don't hate American anymore then Islam hates you for your freedom. There are people that hate America they're called globalist. But when you say stuff like Liberals want Ebola because they hate America it discredits everything you say and anyone that happens to be on your side of the specific argument. So please just stop.

The amount of paranoia you have is starting to get a little unsettling. Just sayin...

Ok, perhaps my broad brush of "liberals hate America" is not fair, but I do believe that a certain bunch of liberals do indeed hate America.

maybe its not paranoia.

Maybe one day you'll look back in time and say.....hey you know what? TMD wasn't wrong after all.... Wink

We'll see.

I know I don't trust the motives of the "commander" in chief thats for sure.

I guess if you throw enough conspiracy theories out there...one might stick. :whistling:
Hopefully all of the time and resources spent on the Ebrola hysteria doesn't cause the CDC to be unprepared for the next strain of influenza. That will result in hundreds of thousands of more deaths than Ebola will cause.
The default for infectious disease control is to either treat your infected on site (Like the UK has stated they will do with any soldiers they have sent that are exposed) or treat them on a ship offshore.

Not bring them into the hospitals in Maryland, Atlanta, etc.

Nothing is done by "mistake" at this level. It's all calculated and is happening for a reason.

The CDC sent out a notice to Doctors last Friday that they were preparing to run low on antibiotics. Why? This is a virus...

hailtoyourvictor - the next big panic, is already here...

Want to make a ban bet? I say that the influenza kills more Americans than Ebola does. Loser can never post here again.
The Hot Zone

Have any of you read this book? I read it several years ago and it scared the crap out of me. Though published in 1995 it's pretty relevant to the times regarding this ebola issue (ebola is ebola, no matter the time frame).

Now with another person (nurse?) in Texas infected....yeah. The government and CDC need to get their collective [BLEEP] in gear and stop this. NOW. I don't care how. If you're afraid of hurting people's feelings or stomping on their freedoms then you have no idea what this infectious disease is capable of and you need to read this book or  any that will tell you the real deal. It'll give you a clue as to how deadly this is and how fast we could lose control if it's not taken seriously. Stop complaining about rights and freedoms and start being concerned. All it takes is a mistake. Just one.

Of course influenza will kill more then Ebola no one's denying that. Just like more people will die in auto accidents then terrorism. Doesn't make either less serious of a problem.
If your only source was Foxnews, you'd think that Ebola was set to account for more deaths than every other cause of death combined. This hysteria is agenda driven.

yep ^^^

Obama is one evil, sick [BAD WORD REMOVED]. He's allowing this into our country intentionally, just as I summized.

As you say - nothing is done by mistake at that level. Calculated and orchestrated.

For real though..... hysteria aside. This is no joke. That book really did scare the crap out of me. I don't know why I read it when I did, it's not my typical read, but it was intriguing and scary how fast something like this could spread.

I read it back in my HS biology class.

I went into it thinking it would be a casual read and it ended up freaking me out worse than any Stephen King novel ever has. Hahahaha

I make the distinction because it seems so many are confusing the situation in Texas as being the same as the infected patients brought to Atlanta.

My point is that the best place to study the science of the disease itself - possible cures and vaccines, as well as treatment of infected patients in absence of any cure - is here, not in some field hospital in Africa. That does not preclude research elsewhere, that was me being hyperbolic, sorry, it means there is a valid reason for bringing infected patients here.
