Quote:The Hot Zone
Have any of you read this book? I read it several years ago and it scared the crap out of me. Though published in 1995 it's pretty relevant to the times regarding this ebola issue (ebola is ebola, no matter the time frame).
Now with another person (nurse?) in Texas infected....yeah. The government and CDC need to get their collective [BLEEP] in gear and stop this. NOW. I don't care how. If you're afraid of hurting people's feelings or stomping on their freedoms then you have no idea what this infectious disease is capable of and you need to read this book or any that will tell you the real deal. It'll give you a clue as to how deadly this is and how fast we could lose control if it's not taken seriously. Stop complaining about rights and freedoms and start being concerned. All it takes is a mistake. Just one.
I read it. It's very interesting, but was wrong on a few things, too. Still, it gives one a vivid picture of how easily and how fast the virus can spread.
Quote:If you are going to go all pseudointellectual in this thread (again) and question what doctors and researches have said about how Ebola is spread, I would like to know your credentials.
So please, sir, tell me everything I need to know about contact precautions, droplet precautions, and airborne precautions.
Those people seem to suck at not catching it, and they know more than you or Eric about it.
Him pointing that out doesn't take anything more than common perception.
Sucking at not catching it is completely different than not knowing how it transmits.
And how would you know if a news reporter and two RNs are more educated on contact precautions than I am? Not that it matters, though, because that isn't what we are debating.
It is not just a nationwide crisis. But it is a worldwide and beyond one unfortunately. 4,300 People dead and counting. :nuke:
CDC Director Dr. Tom Frieden on a travel ban: "If we isolate these countries, what's not going to happen is the disease staying there. It will spread more, all over Africa and we'll be at higher risk."

Can't tell if this is sarcasm or not.

pretty sobering statement from the UN
And that goes back to us helping control the disease.
Quote:So medical professional #2 has it. Flew from Cleveland to Dallas the day before showing symptoms.
All those that think we should bring them here, would you want to be on that plane?
We "know" for certain it's not airborne.
Well it was from Cleveland to Dallas, anyway.
Quote:For real though..... hysteria aside. This is no joke. That book really did scare the crap out of me. I don't know why I read it when I did, it's not my typical read, but it was intriguing and scary how fast something like this could spread.
A book AND a laxative. Probably sells big at Walgreen's.
Now that you guys have worked yourselves into a lather, stay away from me. I don't want to risk getting infected with Ebola.
Btw, there is no cure for Ebola. There are no cures for viruses. They can only be prevented with immunizations, or the symptoms treated. But once infected, like a common cold, the illness has to run its course. Even with the best medical care, some don't make it.

I heard it can be transmitted through the internet.

There are some people on here that can suck the life right out of you...so I can see that happening!

As if the panic level isn't bad enough.
Quote:Ah...AH...AHHHHH...CHOOOOOOOOO...
Man I'm happy I have a screen protector on my iPad right now...it's CDC approved!
