Quote:This from Fox news Shephard Smith: http://youtu.be/Z2KBfynW09I. Everyone in this thread should watch.

I was just about to post this. It's from Fox News amazingly enough, but I have to give credit where credit is due. Great little segment--too bad the rest of the 23 hrs and 55 minutes of the news cycle is partisan fear mongering.

But kudos to Shep.

pretty sobering statement from the UN

Everythings fine, rollerjag (and a few others) said so weeks ago.

Quote:It seems the CDC leadership has failed to take into account that humans do not perfectly follow guidelines. Their whole no problem stance assumed that everyone knew what to do and would do it. Yet the CDC itself authorized the 2nd infected nurse to get on a plane when she had a fever. This is what happens when people blindly trust authority.

Great post!!!!
The head of the CDC needs to go...

I like how the leftist posters are skewing Fox like they are the only ones reporting on the hysteria..CNN, MSNBC, all of them are doing it. It's the crisis of the moment.

Found One America News channel the other day. I like it so far. Different.

I'd bet the head of the CDC is a democrat.

It's agenda driven hysteria. What the agenda is (discredting the opposing party, getting station views, etc.) varies, but the facts don't. Watch the Shepard Smith video linked by jtmoney.

Certainly not. The entire media has jumped on board. And I even posted a video from Fox news anchor Shephard Smith who actually said what the media is doing is irresponsible.
At least watch the video. He brings up many great points.

He is. But I bet he's secretly a cucumber.

Thabks Obama!

I haven't seen that at all. CNN is banging the drum as if it's the new plague and civilization is doomed. Because that's what CNN does best.

I would but, the bandwidth nazis at work won't allow it

Fox was mentioned a few times in this thread by some of the more left of center folks. The whole thing is ridiculous.

But, if you have Uverse look up One America News.
Yeah, I mentioned Fox News earlier. I really don't watch news channel, I was just basing my comment on turning on Bill OReilly the other day and watching them absolutely drill into the topic. Probably could have checked other stations before just calling out Foxnews, but I figured those stations would be equally absurd in the defense of "nothing to see here".
Quote:I heard it can be transmitted through the internet.
We can only be so lucky.

What's your IP again?

Smile
Quote:Sucking at not catching it is completely different than not knowing how it transmits.

And how would you know if a news reporter and two RNs are more educated on contact precautions than I am? Not that it matters, though, because that isn't what we are debating.
He questioned that they really know what they are doing. He seems to be completely right because they can't keep from catching it either.

Eric didn't claim to have the answer, He merely pointed out that those people didn't have the answer either, and guess what, he's right. He's beating you 2-0 in his argument.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but he's dead right about what he said.

Obama is one evil, sick [BAD WORD REMOVED]. He's allowing this into our country intentionally, just as I summized.

As you say - nothing is done by mistake at that level. Calculated and orchestrated.

Another one of your Illuminati conspiracy theories?

They know how Ebola is spread. People can't keep from catching AIDS. Does that mean we don't know how AIDS is spread? Your logic holds no weight.

World Health Authorities (MSF, WHO, etc.) have been dealing with Ebola for years. We know what precautions work. Further, Emory PROVED that those precautions work. This was an instance of poor management and/or poor protocol enforcement. It's not an instance of medical authorities not knowing what they are dealing with.

This is from the European Center for Disease Control:

http://www.ecdc.europa.eu/en/publication...t-2014.pdf

"Transission of EVD (Ebola virus disease) requires direct contact with blood, secretions, organs, or other bodily fluids of dead or living infected persons or animals or with materials or utensils heavily contaminated with such fluids."

This was Eric's comment:

And these guys wore protective gear? I'm starting to think we're just not sure how it spreads.

That is wrong. They know how it spreads. It's a matter of preventing that spreading.

"Protective gear should minimise the risk to health workers treating Ebola patients.

But worryingly there have been reports of staff not getting the correct equipment or the necessary training.

These isolated cases should not become an outbreak as authorities in both countries are monitoring those who came into contact with infected people.

But each new case of transmission is asking the question - is enough being done to protect healthcare workers?

A total of 75 healthcare workers were being monitored for symptoms following the second diagnosed case linked to Duncan.

Mr Varga refused to comment on allegations from nurses at the Dallas hospital that health workers had been without adequate protective clothing for days during the outbreak.

The nurses also said they had received little guidance on how to prevent the spread of the virus, that Duncan was not immediately isolated from other patients when he was admitted to the hospital a second time, and that medical waste was allowed to pile up at least once."

Apparently lack of proper training is an issue in this case, which I believe. I've worked in several healthcare facilities and training is not always a high priority.

according to the university of Minnesota a respected researcher they don't know how it spreads fully. They've even advised WHO that they think this strain may be limited airborne

http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2014/10/14/CIDRAP-Confirms-Ebola-Transmittable-by-Air

So no, they don't KNOW exactly whats going on with this strand, there's tons of questions from people that know way more then me or you about this strand.
I'll worry about Ebola once I get over Sars, the Avian Bird Clue, and Mad Cow Disease. I think I've got enough to deal with as it is.
