Quote:I dont care whether he holds himself accountable in a press conference, I care if he holds himself accountable to his teammates on the sidelines.
It would be curious to know what Bortles's mindset was from pre-snap to making the throw.
I watched that play a couple times... I think he had every confidence in his arm and that the WR he was throwing to was in single coverage...
In fact, there was a bracket on that side of the field in regards to the pass coverage.
I pretty positive when he sees that play again in the film room he's gonna smack himself in the forehead and learn from it...
The other thing about that play... There was no reciever exploiting the middle of the field... Which is on the OC, but again, I'm not critiquing the OC this game. One play without a middle outlet is not really the point.
I think BB5 locked onto his #1 option and didn't think there was a reason to think that target wasn't open even as he threw it... He'll learn from it
Quote:I agree with this for the most part. He knew exactly where he wanted to go with that pass pre-snap.
Whether he claims it in a press conference is irrelevant.
The coaches and BB5 should really study that play and learn from it moving forward.
There was a stack of CBs and an LB. One CB was showing blitz and came in, with BB5 not recognizing it. It was a rookie mistake... He should be able to learn from it.
Well said W/respect to BB5 making rookie mistakes. This is the Exact Reasoning that I preferred that he, BB5 played from day one. He'll purposely learn his lesson from 2014 and in 2015 he'll be Much Improved...
NH3...
Quote:Absolute single worst case scenario.
Naw, there are alot worse scenarios...
Like if BB5 was a stink butt QB. Which he's not
Is Bortles dumb? He can't read defenses. Just stares down his primary receiver.

As long as the coaches keep pushing him and making sure he get's better with his reads, BB5 will be much better next year.
The concern will always be if the OC and the QB coach are the right folks for the job.
I really didn't see anything today to be too concerned about regarding play calling, which was nice to see. But this was just one game. More opportunities will come for both BB5 and the offense.
Oh, and how bout Storm!!! Man, we're getting pretty lucky with some of our late round picks. If we can start showing some improvement on the O-Line and the LB's, I think we may just have something going in Jacksonville!

Yeah... It kinda happens when you don't trust your O-line to give you enough time to go through progessions...
A rookie developmental QB, a rookie packed and poor OL, rookie WRs, and the lack of a running game equals a recipe of failure. Bortles play is just part of the problem, and should be expected from a 1st year QB in his second game.

If the trend continues and for his career he doesn't trust the offensive line and starts looking down and rushing his passes, not making proper reads or using proper footwork, he will be a "stink butt QB." That's why all the "Henne mousebreeders" were ok with Henne serving as the sacrificial lamb behind that offensive line for the majority of this year.
Bortles handled the line decently enough through 3 games, but like you pointed out, we're starting to see some of the negative effects of the most embarrassing offensive line in the league seeping into Bortles' game. There's still 11 more games left before help comes. We'll see how well Bortles continues to deal with this line, but there's definitely cause for concern.

You are trolling on an epic level today.

The all recent HOF QBs also look like punks when their O-Line breaks down... That's what I'm hanging my hat on...
Brady is a chump when he doesn't have a clean pocket. But he can pick D's apart when he has some time and trust.
BB5, once he figures out D's and has a better O-line may very well be better than Brady...
Let's just let this play out.
As is the common vernacular, in terms of the O-Line, help is NOT on the way.
So BB5 is gonna get some trial by fire. But I don't think it means he's gonna turn into a Gabbert or Kyle Boller type player.
He's got the skills. He just needs time and an O-line. He'll be fine
This team sucks... it isn't a one man show.

Yeah, I don't know if I'd call anyone a troll after an 0-5 start.
If he's upset with how bad we are, let him be.
I remember how mad I was after the first 4 losses....

Big difference between being upset and venting frustration and not having common sense..
Peyton Manning had 6 ints - 2 tds in his first two starts. That clearly means Bortles will be just as good as Manning. OMAHA!

That guy trolls all the time. Its nothing new

and that, I think, is the main thing we are all hoping for...
It's not like BB5 doesn't have the heart or the talent to be the best. It's just a matter of coaching and hard work to figure out HOW to be the best...
Quote:That guy trolls all the time. Its nothing new
We all troll at times... Otherwise, we'd be lurkers...
Quote:This kid is nothing like the comparisons. He's a turnover machine. He was inaccurate and threw floaters all day long. People are giving him a pass but hes the reason we lost.
Henne was a much bigger problem and he was a 7yr vet.
There are much bigger problems with this team than at QB right now.
The 2 INT average per start is bad, but that's going to happen at times when he's trying to make a play, especially when he doesn't have a running game to help him out, and the defense knows it.
It's only been 2 starts, let's see if he learns anything from the bad plays and cuts them down.
BB is really about the only reason to watch Jags games right now, other than maybe a couple of the other rookies.
It's not like there is a much better option sitting on the bench now is there?
