Quote:Is Bortles dumb?  He can't read defenses.  Just stares down his primary receiver.

I thought you had a man crush on him.  What happened?
Quote:The all recent HOF QBs also look like punks when their O-Line breaks down...   That's what I'm hanging my hat on...

Brady is a chump when he doesn't have a clean pocket.  But he can pick D's apart when he has some time and trust.

BB5, once he figures out D's and has a better O-line may very well be better than Brady...

Let's just let this play out.

As is the common vernacular, in terms of the O-Line, help is NOT on the way.

So BB5 is gonna get some trial by fire.  But I don't think it means he's gonna turn into a Gabbert or Kyle Boller type player.

He's got the skills.  He just needs time and an O-line.  He'll be fine

My issue isn't Bortles being good with a bad offensive line. My issue isn't Bortles ever learning how to read a defense.

My issue is Bortles being young and inexperienced trying to do too much to overcompensate for the lack of an offensive line and picking up bad tendencies that will plague him the rest of his career. The issue with Gabbert was that he got nervous in the pocket because he didn't know what a clean pocket was. He started tucking the ball and expecting the sack. Then he started taking his eyes off deep plays because he didn't think he had time to let plays develop. Then he started running from imaginary pressure. He started throwing the ball with iffy mechanics, just to get the ball out in time. Those mental issues are the types of issues that, so far, have yet to be fixed in a QB. If you know of a young QB whose internal clock got broken and came back to be successful, please let me know; I'll feel a lot better about Bortles' situation. I just can't think of a single player who has seen their internal clock broken, and be successful.

Tom Brady, a player who has been incredible for more than a decade, having to deal with his first bad offensive line, is a different situation. I'm not as worried about him getting back to form next year when the offensive line is potentially fixed. I trust Brady to not fall back into unsound fundamentals. I trust Brady to not have his internal clock messed up as much as a rookie, because he's had time in the NFL before. But, Bortles hasn't. We've seen rookie QB's behind lines that can't block who start rushing their decisions, and throws. They don't come back from that. That's what I'm afraid of with Bortles. That after an entire season behind this line, even when he does have time in the future, he'll still be rushing his decisions and throws, because instead of thinking he has time his internal clock says he's got 1-3 seconds before the play breaks down.

If this was a mediocre line, I'd be there with you. I have no reason to question Bortles' ability to be an elite QB in an average situation. But this isn't an average situation. Its not even half-decent. This is the worst offensive line I've ever seen. Even you're starting to see the effects this line is having on Bortles. I, and I'm pretty sure all of us, just hope they're not long-term effects. But we won't know until next year when, hopefully, the line looks competent. Until then, the worst case scenario at this point, is for Bortles to be broken.
The first INT wasn't a big deal. The position at which we had the ball a punt would have landed in or about the same spot. Better to take a chance. I do agree he didn't have much behind the throw. I'd expect a little more mustard behind the ball given his stature. He definitely read some good plays and put up some good blocks. He also moved the ball down field fluently. We were in the red several times but difficult to execute with a rookie offense. He does stare his recievers which is obvious but even then it didn't prevent nice receptions. Ovetall, to premature to call this thread.
This is ridiculous

He had TWO srarting rookie WRs to throw to.... one a second rounder and the other an undrafted guy.

You blame Bortles for this and you're just dumb.
Quote:Rookies everywhere. He is reading the defense and adjusting plays. The first pick is risk taking. The second one was rookie bad mistake. You really think he is in the Gabbert zone? Please you don't know football. Do you really believe Henne would have lead us to victory today?
While I do not say the OP does not know football, I agree with you generally.

As I indicated earlier, his picks seem to follow a pattern.  The first pick is him making a reasonable gamble his receiver will either come through and make the play for him, or at least stop the defender from making the play.  The second pick is always a [BLEEP] kind of throw.  I'm wondering if desperation/frustration/impatience is contributing to those picks.
Bortles has been a professional football player for what 6 months now. I'm quite sure the people who are down on Bortles were performing flawlessly at their chosen professions 6 months into their careers. Only explanation I can think of.
Quote:This kid is nothing like the comparisons. He's a turnover machine. He was inaccurate and threw floaters all day long. People are giving him a pass but hes the reason we lost.
YOU ARE DUMB>
Threads like this is why I hardly ever come to this board anymore and why most everybody trashes this board.

wow I cant believe people turn on bortles so quickly.  of course he is gonna make mistakes.  plus I like that he takes chances down the field.  that first pick was like a punt on 3rd and 30 or so.  oh well I guess people will always complain.  im just glad we were in the game till the end.   hard to believe people think bortles wont improve. one of the reason I wanted him in this season is so he can get his trial by fire this year. instead of next.

A lot of people have said this through the thread, and I'm not going back to find all of the instances to quote them, but its really not that surprising. There were threads labeling Bortles a "transcendent" player after 1 half of football. The expectations were set so unfathomably high, they were simply impossible to meet.

That's not to say he deserves the criticism he's getting now though. He doesn't. He's a rookie who's making rookie mistakes. These are the lumps that were to be expected. The important thing for us is to see progress from week-to-week. But, this is the type of stuff you see when your "transcendent 15 year all-pro who will make everyone around him play better" doesn't play like the God that he's been anointed.
I hope this thread was made in jest. Bortles has shown flashes of brilliance but he's still a rookie, and no matter how promising a rookie might be, he will throw interceptions and make stupid throws.

Lol, morons... Your bus is leaving.
This is a [BLEEP] thread.

he's a rookie.  He's playing with a bunch of nobodies.

He made some dumb mistakes, but that's alright.  He'll get better and smarter.  If we can just get some weapons and consistency around him.

He will be fine Bortles that is. Just give him time. He is a rookie!

some of you need to relax and have a beer.

Someone kill this lame thread please lol
Quote:Thats what i've been saying. As bad as Gabbert was he didn't throw 6 int in 2 games..Lets slow the boat on Bortles is a Future franchise QB because I'm not seeing that. Blaine Gabbert had tons of games like Bortles had today.
P.Manning throw like 28 ints his rookie year, he seem to turn out fine moron
Quote:Yeah, I don't know if I'd call anyone a troll after an 0-5 start.

If he's upset with how bad we are, let him be.

I remember how mad I was after the first 4 losses....

Is it bad that I know this team will find a way to lose every week, and I'm just hoping Bortles plays well enough to know there's hope? I hate this part of being a Jags fan. Wonder if whitehurst will TomBrady us next week?
Short bus having a few more stops than usual.

FIND A WAY TO LOSE?????  LOL.

We don't have to find anything.  We just lose, it's not like we've lost the ability to figure out how bad we are.  We are just bad!!

And yes, this is what it means to be a Jags fan.  And it doesn't look like it's really gonna get much better for a while.  A LONG WHILE.
