Quote:Who said they were expecting such an enviroment?

I only pointed out that Orlando gave good support to their USL franchise.

he said, "hopefully they make it like Seattle and blah blah blah..."

That was what I was responding to.  Not trying to poopoo on his party, but that is just not a likely scenario.  Possible?  Ya sure.

Quote:That has to make our defensive effort historically bad as well. the fact that the score was not 6-7 to 1 was amazing. I guess I am not soccer savvy enough to understand how Klinsmann thought we could win by just sitting on our goal playing defense?

There is an idea in soccer that you have to prevent losing the game before you can win it. It is relatively easy to keep an opposing team from scoring with good defense; so you focus on that first before getting a goal yourself.

People seem to make a lot of stuff up about you.  lol
Germany's defense is very good. Well, I think most of their defense is actually keeping a lot of possession, not allowing the other team the ball much.

They just keep winning , 1-0, 1-0, 1-0 all the way to the semis.
Go Belgium!

im with you. Went 2-1
I'll give it to Messi. He fights his tail off through fouls. Respect that.

agreed… got to give it to him, thats why he is one of the top finishers in the game… i hate watching people fall like they got stabbed every time someone breaths on them… thats why he had 70+ goals a couple of years back.
Not being that well versed in World Cup soccer, is it the norm to have so many 1-0 type games when it gets to the quarter-final level?

Is it that teams are facing better defenses and/or teams are more conservative now that there is so much at stake?

Is there any chance of us seeing a more exciting (to someone not familiar with all the various levels of the sport) 4-3 type game? These 1-0 games aren't helping to gather in the non-fanatics.

I wouldn't say it's the norm but teams with the kind of defense that produces goal rich games don't last very long in the World Cup. It's a lot like football (before the NFL changed the rules) in that way; offense wins games, defense wins championships.
Something I've learned this World Cup, when I'm nervous like this, I start cleaning the house.

Sigh, I'd like to defend soccer against people who say it's boring but games like these aren't helping much.

Sneijder off the post again.

Extra soccer yay!

Honestly, I have no faith in this penalty shootout.

"There are no atheists in foxholes" is nonsense. "There are no atheists in penalty shootouts" is the absolute truth.

What a fantastic choice by Van Gaal to change the goalies.

That was a potentially career altering move. Looks like the right one.

Apparently Krul was watching film on Costa Rica PKs during the game.
