The context was whether or not he had a prior relationship with him, whether he knew him and/or had worked with him prior.
I believe that is what Dave was referring to in response to being asked if he would hire someone he had no ties with - which was the context of his response.
It was certainly not "comfort" as in I did/did not want him.
He said he didn't know about him prior to the interview, and Gus nailed the interview - and that was the basis for the hire. Not prior ties.
See I heard it the way the others are saying. That Gus wasn't necessarily "his guy"

Heard it, felt it was more of a PR move. If you want to take it as him being fine with Gus i`m ok with that, I`m not saying i`m right or wrong its just my opinion.

Still sounds to me like Gus wasnt his ideal guy. Sure, he may not have been advocating to stay away but I dont think Gus was at the top of Daves list the way he spoke...thats for sure.
Doesnt mean Dave wasnt good with the hire, as I think Dave likes Gus. Just doesnt seem like he was the guy Dave wanted.

Understood. All good. I'm just downplaying the "Gus wasn't Dave's choice" narrative that seems to be picking up steam around here. He clearly had his vote in the matter and went along.
I like Dave, and I feel certain he's learned form this particular mistake, but I'm not reading too much into it the that question and answer.
By the time Khan and Dave got to flying around the country .....weren't most of the good coach prospects already taken?

Gus was a top coaching candidate that year. Had a lot of fans. Was close to going to Philly before us...

I like Dave as well, I think he gets to much flack for Gus and that`s more of the point i`m getting at with his comment.
He wasn`t the only one with say and because of that he shouldn`t be the only one to catch the blame for the hire.

Listening to Marvin Lewis do his Monday presser this afternoon is just like listening to Gus Bradley. Lewis is about as intimidating as a "yap yap" dog and he can't understand why his positive messages to the players aren't working. He's been in Cincinnati 14 years and no playoff wins. Do we really want that? I don't.

We were behind in the search because other teams did not want to hire a GM first and get him involved in the HC hiring process. I don't think some of the coaches we missed out on that way would have had any interest in the Jaguars job anyway, but yeah, going the GM-first-HC-second route cost us chances to interview Andy Reid and Bruce Arians.
