Quote:I gave Shaun Hill as ----A----- example of a QB better than Henne to have chosen if they wanted to go the veteran route. I never said going the veteran route was my choice. I have stated on several occasions in the past several weeks that my solution was to draft 2 QB and the 2nd QB would serve as the developmental/ backup QB,
And they can still draft 2 QB'S. I'm surprised people are surprised by this signing. We knew it was coming.
Quote:Sooooo....The previous GM was so egregiously bad that he left us with a completely horrible, all-time putrid roster...but not so completely horrible that it would prevent us from turning it completely around in an off-season or two?
The Attention Dog demonstrates how to have it both ways.
IN the modern free agency NFL you don't need 4 year plans to turn around bad teams. Welcome to 2014.
Quote:I don't see the difference. If we sign Hill you still are in the same scenario as signing Henne. Same thing. This doesn't impact the draft whatsoever.
The difference is we signed Henne, which makes him a Jaguar. That's bad, remember??

Signing a backup player also wouldn't derail a quick turnaround.
Quote:I dont know if you remeber but in 2011 we would have been 8-8 with Gabbert if it wasnt for out punter who lost us 3 games single handedly. If facts dont go along with your agenda you just dont want to talk to me anymore then fine.
What 3 extra games would we have won if we had a better punter?

All this because they re-signed Chad Henne? LOL!
I don't understand all the hub-bub.. Henne is a backup and knows the offense.. Pretty simple..
Quote:And if neither of them are ready to start week 1, what do you want to do?
I think that would become apparent early enough that you could make the necessary moves by the opener for a temporary veteran starter.
Not every QB is like Gabbert though. If the right QB prospect is drafted, he won't need time to ride the pine first.

Quick! Name a team that was talent depleted and turned things around in 2 years (without drafting a QB).
Quote:What the hell are trying to say? Calm down, step away from the keyboard and count to ten.
Not sure he could get there, and not because of his lack of patience.

A bad backup, one that represents the losing culture we are trying to move on from and the signing of a veteran likely signals that we won't be drafting 2 QB in May. I strongly doubt they are carrying 3 QB on the active roster come week 1 and beyond.

Not every QB will have to ride the bench, but if you're drafting a QB in the 2nd or 3rd round (say Caldwell doesn't like any of the available QB's in the 1st round) chances are they're going to be riding the bench for a while in any case.
You might be able to find a temporary veteran starter at the beginning of the season... and you might wind up with your choice being between Luke McCown or Brandon Weeden.

I named about at least 6 teams in the past 4-5 years that had quick turnarounds....and I probably left out a few. No one held a gun to the Jags collective heads that they couldn't address QB better than they have up to this point. So to put the stipulation above is silly.
I really don't think chad henne is what I want in a qb but for a backup role for this team, this is a perfect signing! He will be able to provide experience with the playbook to whoever we draft and it's not like he's breaking the bank. Good move
Some people are acting like the jags have came out and said chad henne is the starting qb

That makes absolutely no sense. Why not carry 3 QB's on the active roster come week 1 and beyond? The Redskins did it when they took Cousins and Griffin (they also had Grossman).
And if a QB does come along and wow everyone... Henne can be cut. It's that simple.

You honestly believe that McCown or Weeden are all that different than Henne? The only difference would be we'd at that point be guaranteed of keeping 3 QB on the roster, with the 2 rookies and Weeden/ or McCown. Now, we'll just avoid drafting that developmental QB altogether, and just draft one. I don't like it at all.
