Quote:Malabar, unless you have a crystal ball, we can't say a GM is good or bad not even a year into his job. There were many praising Gene two years in and look where that ended up. I have no doubt Caldwell has a plan and one which you may disagree with. Obviously Monroe at this point was no longer in their future. We could have franchised him, if Caldwell wanted him, but he didn't, that is why he was traded. You may not like his approach or his aggressiveness, but declaring him worse then one of if not the worst GM in the last decade this early his nothing more then a fan mad because he isn't doing it "his way".

Maybe. I also had issues with Gene at this point in his reign.

For the #2 pick n the draft, we get slightly younger at LT plus two late round picks. That's a pretty poor return on investment no matter how you want to spin it. Even if Joeckel is another Boselli, it's a poor return on investment, I don't need to wait four years to see that. And that's the absolute best case. If he's another Jason Smith it's a total disaster.

Apparently you'd have issues with anyone at GM because they wouldn't do what you'd do.  Maybe you should submit your resume to a few NFL teams.  I'm sure you could build a championship team!

You get one year.
according to some reports and ravens fans newsome called caldwell monroe's availability, he was not actively shopped around, and the deal was done in a day. wow just wow so much for getting the most value you can get  :whistling:  :whistling:  :whistling:

Having seen how many failures have come from PROFESSIONAL GMs, I'm convinced that there are at least a dozen regular posters on this board who could do a better job.

<p style="color:rgb(40,40,40);font-family:helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">Eugene Monroe wasn't even on the block I'm told. Ravens called, offer made sense. To build through the draft, Jags need picks, so open to it

<p style="color:rgb(51,51,51);font-family:'Helvetica Neue', Arial, sans-serif;">One more thing on Eugene Monroe trade: It came together in a day. What happens when you have 2 GMs with a good relationship who get it.

<p style="color:rgb(51,51,51);font-family:'Helvetica Neue', Arial, sans-serif;">

<p style="color:rgb(51,51,51);font-family:'Helvetica Neue', Arial, sans-serif;">just in case you guys dont check the other thread.

<p style="color:rgb(51,51,51);font-family:'Helvetica Neue', Arial, sans-serif;">

<p style="color:rgb(51,51,51);font-family:'Helvetica Neue', Arial, sans-serif;">so yeah  :whistling:  :whistling:  :whistling:  :whistling:  :whistling:

Maybe that's because the job is a lot harder than you think it is?

Fans sit and moan about how bad their GM's are.  And sometimes GM's get a little too much time (Gene Smith should have been fired two years ago).  But it's also not by any means as easy of a job as you think.  You have to deal with salary cap, negotiations, etc... It's much harder than Madden makes it out to be.
saw this on the ravens board....confirm or deny

 <a class="bbc_url" href='http://www.twitter.com/JasonLaCanfora' title="External link">@JasonLaCanfora</a> "Jags are picking up the bulk of Eugene Monroe's contract with Ravens; BAL gets Monroe at $715,000, Jags pay $2.2M of his remaining salary..."

Quote:Once we get rid of the remaining dead weight on the roster next offseason (Mincey, Poz, Lewis)

I don't consider Paul Posluszny "dead weight".  Pretty harsh to say that about a good dude who's done nothing but play hard and effectively since he arrived in Jacksonville.

At least this makes the Jags interesting to watch again. I've never seen a QB get killed before.

That isn't how it works.

Blaine will be taking snaps from the fetal position

If you dont like that one, how about this. We swapped a guy who at worse could be described as a 26 year old, solid starter at a very important spot for 2 draft picks who are statisically very unlikley to even start on this team for more than 3 years.

Better?
Quote:I was shocked by it too. One of our best players? But it's a radical rebuild that is changing the foundation of our team, so they'll acquire as many draft picks as possible to build a new team.

Hopefully next years draft feels similar to this draft. We'll just have to see how it all plays out.

If you really believe that you are delusional!!!

No sarcasm intended here:

Someone explain to me why it is not a bad thing to eat most of the remaining salary of a player we trade?

Apparently there are a few here that don't understand the concept of free agency.

"But you've lost all that investment!" No kidding.

Then junior GMs like HeeRo and Malabar would be griping that we should have gotten something for him.

I hope there are a few more trades. This is getting amusing.

im thinking its because the ravens doesnt have enough cap space and we do? but thats just speculation, im too lazy to do the research lol

They got two draft picks for a guy they weren't going to re-sign anyway.
