I was ready to jump on board in 2017, but he wasn't able to sway me due to not being able to play.  I wish him well and hope he has no setbacks on his recovery.  I still think that will impact his productivity in 2018.

In everyone's defense a rob was absolutely incredible that year. It felt like every 50 50 ball was 80 20 in his favour. That sort of dominance in his first full year of  play is hard to look past.

As for Moncrief I think this year will be his only year here. He has a great size speed combo but has never jumped out at me numerically or on film.

I think he is a stop gap in case Westbrook and cole regress next year.

With Norwell solidifying between Robinson and linder I think we draft an ot who will compete with cann this year and take over from Parnell next. With that sort of strength on the line I think our passing game may thrive off chunk yardage when teams stack the box. All 4 of our wideouts can do that and I think we will see all of them in the 600-800 yard mark if they stay healthy

I've been eyeing players to fit this very role. The best bets from what I gather are...

  • Round One - Isaiah Wynn or Conner Williams
  • Round Two - Tyrell Crosby, Jamarco Jones or Martinas Rankin
  • Round Three - Austin Corbett <--he'll have to put on some weight if he's to play RT

Bumped for an OTA update on Moncrief's work in Jax thus far:

Quote:Two veterans to watch during OTAs: tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins and wide receiver Donte Moncrief. The duo signed as unrestricted free agents in March and both are expected to play key roles as starters in 2018. “Donte had a bunch of catches and was in the right spot; he hit all the right landmarks,” Bortles said, adding “He [Moncrief] is going to give us another target down in the red zone. With Keelan, Austin and Donte, we have three big guys who can go play one-on-one, catch fades and do different things down in the red zone. The most impressive thing about him (Moncrief) is how hard he has worked. All offseason, during Phase 2 – throwing routes on air – the effort and precision in his route-running has been extremely impressive.” Bortles appeared particularly in sync with Seferian-Jenkins Tuesday, connecting several times on intermediate routes and once downfield between the hashmarks and sideline. “We’ve gotten a chance to throw these past couple of weeks,” Bortles said. “I think he’s going to do a lot for us. I think he’s going to be a mismatch nightmare.”
If that's the case I wouldn't mind gambling drafting ASJ as my TE1 in fantasy

I still think Lee may land in the slot if Moncreif wins the job at X. And i think it's a good spot for him.

They just resigned Lee to a 4 year deal, averaging $8.5m per season, and almost $17m guaranteed.  By the deal's structure, he's pretty much locked into this team for at least 2 years, before the financial structure of the deal makes it plausible to release or trade him.  I have a hard time believing they paid that much with the structure employed for a backup in their minds.  Although it may play out that Lee is a backup on paper, I foresee him getting equal reps to the top WRs on the roster, at worst case.

I have a hard time believing Marrone is going to give even the slightest crap what someone out there is getting paid.
Moncrief is definitely making the team lol...We have a LOT of weapons now at WR, excited to see how they rotate them. I think Lee is better suited in the slot vs outside. I think Moncrief & Cole will be X & Y and Lee inside with Chark & Westbrook getting a lot of snaps too. Will be nice having fresh legs in all game. Last year with injuries we got pretty slim.

I think we will keep 6 WRs too, with either Mickens or Lazard. If Chark shows he can return punts, I think Lazard gets the nod. Rashad Greene is unfortunately the odd man out imo.

With Marrone talking about Rashad Greene being in the mix to possibly make the team, I'm thinking they will keep six. He liked what he's seen in Greene during these underwear practices, so he might be legitimately challenging Mickens for that 6th spot. Lazard is probably making the PS.

Check out this catch by Moncrief at 0:19 of the video. The 40" vertical shows here...his athleticism is excellent.

Agreed.  But, I guarantee TC and DC asked Marrone what his thoughts were of Lee before they paid him that level of Franklins.

I remember right after Lee signed. Marrone talked about him explaining that for a WR he can really run block well.
