According to Tony Pauline, he is hearing that Trent Baalke is the one pitching Urban Meyer.
So if/(when?) we go the Urban route, it is going to be a Urban Meyer/Trent Baalke duo. Hope you guys are mentally preparing yourselves for this.
If you’re going to clean house, clean house.

That would imply that Baalke will be the new GM which is not a certainty. If he is and if he does hire Meyer, I know a lot of fans would consider it a catastrophe but he is a good football coach. Main concerns (especially from bitter Gator fans) would be commitment/health. My main concern would be lack of experience at the NFL level. Definitely a level of risk involved, so why go that route if you have your pick of what's available?
My guess is Pauline is just throwing darts at the wall hoping one sticks.

Baalke and Urban would be a worst case scenario for me.
Typical Jaguars who can’t fully clean house.
Didn’t Baalke hire Jim Harbaugh and chip Kelly? Meyer would fit in hiring like that. Didn’t he alsoDraft Colin Kaepernick? Had one good year and the wheels fell off? I understand TL is not a CK but still. I think I’d move on. Not sure I’d want that duo. Seems like that would be repeating what happened 2017 through now.

Agreed.

Ugh! I am a UCLA fan and Kelly has ruined my team. I can't even watch them anymore. Baalke is the absolute worst case scenario for us as a GM. There was a reason we hired him. No one else wanted him. Clean house completely!
What would you guys think of David Shaw?
Pat nailed it.
Urbans way of doing things may not work in the NFL.
ABBU! AnyBody But Urban!!

One of the worst possible scenarios

Double yuck. Hopefully this suggestion proves so bush league that the Kahns quickly jettison Baalke with Marrone on black Monday.

God what a nightmare scenario that would be. I don't want Urban anywhere near this team, or Lawrence and this front office needs a clean sweep.
Albert Breer just posted this:
“There might be some recency bias involved here, but the name with the most heat on it right now is Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll. We’ve previously connected him to the Chargers job, and I think if Urban Meyer doesn’t wind up taking the Jaguars job, Daboll will be in play there. The obvious thing the two places have in common—one has a great young quarterbacking prospect and the other’s about to get one.
Another Daboll connection to Jacksonville would actually be through the Patriots. Jags SVP of football administration and technology Tony Khan—son of owner Shad Khan—has taken advice from Bill Belichick in past, with Belichick being a leading advocate for Doug Marrone in 2017. I believe Belichick would give his former assistant who did two tours in Foxboro a strong recommendation (it might help him, too, to get Daboll out of the division).”

I dont do this often cuz everyone hates the "I know a guy" guy, but was down in Jax for the holidays and talked with a family friend who is very close to the situation as you might say. And was told it would be a big surprise if Urban isnt named the coach at this point. Didnt get a read on GM as they are more concerned about the coach first.
I didn't hear anything about Baalke pushing hard for Urban but if true, it makes sense Baalke could end up as the GM. As others have said, I think Baalke / Urban would be disappointing. I'd love for this team to built something that has staying power. Whether it be similar to the Steelers, Ravens, etc... a culture from the top down that can be consistently good for a long time. I'm sure Urban has the itch to know whether he can succeed at the highest level. Even if successful, based on his history he won't be around for more then 4 or 5 years. And if he struggles, he could bail even sooner.
The most Jaguars-y thing that could happen is we hire someone with a massive ego like Urban who thinks he is the smartest guy in the room and they end up drafting Josh Fields because he fits Urban's scheme more.

Urban is weak. He'll use his heart as an excuse to bail at the first sign of trouble, just like hes always done. Even with Lawrence, I wont have any hope for the future if Urban is the HC of this team.
It would be the must Jags thing ever... Hiring Urban and then he probably would draft Fields over Lawrence. Wouldn't surprise me one bit

Kind of disappointing news but Ill wait until I hear something official. I'll get behind whoever we hire but Im personally not a Meyer fan.
It's the GM who'll be drafting, even assuming Meyer is hired as the HC. He'd have some input but the Jags are not going to pass on Lawrence.

I get it. You’re just posting what you hear but we had the UCF Bortles dude who said it’s a done deal he’s getting traded to the Jets.....
Not buying it unless you can say who your source is....

If they hire the HC before they hire the GM, then the HC is going to have far more control over the entire team than normally. Hiring the HC first is so backwards and pretty much means you're giving him the keys to run the entire show, from top to bottom. He'll be the one who gets to make all the decisions.

We'll he said Baalke was pushing the decision. If that's right, then it means Baalke is essentially the GM. Doubt even SK would hire a GC before a GM.
