No way.
No way would I let him anywhere near Trevor Lawrence.
The man wrecks QBs.
Alex Smith took YEARS to unlearn all the bad habits that Meyer failed to correct.
Tebow never did.
Haskins might never overcome it.
And to top it off he left his last two jobs suddenly, citing health concerns! Do we think the last two years have made him more healthy, or less?!
If we were just going to try to ressurect Haskins the way that Spurrier tried to ressurect Weurffel, I'd be down, but we have a QB with some real bona fides who deserves a real coach.
I guess I'd love to be proven wrong, but I'd probably stop following the Jags if they try to pair Meyer and Lawrence.
And I'm not smarter than anyone in the sports media, but unlike them I'm willing to say the emperor has no clothes. Meyer might win a few games, but to me it's not worth following a team when they make decisions that are so clearly awful that even a layman like me says, "I could have done better."
One thing to consider is maybe he was able to design systems that made QBs appear better than they really were, making it so they struggled with a traditional offense. I’m not sure a guy who was able to turn average QBs into stars by exploiting their strengths in unique offensive systems is a bad thing? Just another way to look at it.

When the defense has 11 guys who are just as big and fast as your 11 guys, the plays you run have to be precise in every movement, no wasted motion or effort. You can't afford to run any "all trick plays" sort of playbook. An NFL linebacker can easily shoot the gaps in a spread offensive line. An NFL running back needs that running start as he get the handoff or else he might not outrun the NFL linebacker. The NFL QB needs to set his feet before throwing or else the NFL DB will get to the ball first.

Its a boom or bust hire

Not sure Urban’s offense can work in the NFL
As a Gator fan, I hope he can build a dominant defense like he had with his Championship teams at UF. He is after all, a former DB.
Maybe he can hire the right OC to put together an NFL offense with some Spread characteristics

I was wondering about the Rooney Rule. Who would actually interview for the Jaguars to satisfy the rule if they know that Urban already has the job?

Plenty of guys just for the experience if nothing else.
The Rooney rule creates the exact opposite outcome it was intended to create.

Urban Meyer is my coach, and he would be a huge upgrade over marrone. He will hire the right staff. Hes got the winning factor that our jags losing mentailty needs. The current coaching staff are a bunch of losers, and they appear not to be bothered by it.

You can't say Marrone isn't effected by it with a straight face. He is very much bothered by it. You can see that in every post game interview after every lots. I hope he can go out on a win.

Let’s hope common sense prevails and Meyer is just gossip fodder. I can’t think of a faster way to squash the Jaguars’s good fortune and hope than to hire Urban Meyer.

I hope these rumors are completely wrong. Of all the names I don’t want I. j-Ville urban Mayer is at the top. No chance he doesn’t have ‘Heath issues’ and quit on us in a couple years.

Without a GM in place who is making these decisions ? Tony Khan? Shad? That to me is a way bigger issue, we need actual football brains in the building making decisions. Not the guys who kept the ice cream and bologna guys in charge WAYYYYYYY too long.

I'm thinking this is pure bs.

Hiring Urban Meyer is the type of decision I would expect from a guy like Daniel Snyder. Remember when he hired Steve Spurrier? I hope Shad Khan isn't that type of owner. It would also be a violation of the Rooney Rule, since we haven't actually interviewed anyone for the job yet.
I just want a solid GM and a solid HC. Please.

I think and hope you're right. The Rooney Rule is a joke anyway. Teams are totally ignoring it's purpose and are basically bring minority coaches in for visits as a smokescreen, even though they basically have deals done with other coaches. Just hire the best person for the job, regardless of race or ethnicity. Like I said, if I were GM, I would bring in Daboll, Bieniemy and Arthur Smith. I interview them all, ask them pertinent questions and see which one is the best fit for what we wanna do with this team.

This seems to be the most common concern. A few people have wondered about his system translating to the NFL which is completely legit but most people seem concerned about his commitment or temperament. If he's here for 5 or 6 years but gets us into contention, then why should we care about possible hurt feelings?
Dude has been successful everywhere he's coached of that there is no denying. He's got the 3rd best coaching record in NCAA history. Does that translate? Who knows but I bet it would, especially if he gets coordinators with league experience.
Anyway, it's all just a rumor at this point.

I don’t want to go from Oscar Mayer to Urban Meyer.

I am not worried as much about him being successful, I am worried about him bailing on us. I want a coach who is going to be here for the long haul. Not one who is going to fake a heart condition only to get a new coaching gig that he really wants.

That seems to be the most common concern. Bitter Gator fans. Hey, if he were here 6 years and won a Superbowl and then left, I'm not going to be too pissed off about it, I'd be happy for the team's success. If he comes in and bombs, he might fire himself from the stress without having to worry about Shad taking way to long to do it.
My concerns are that he tends to be a hard [BLEEP] and we've seen that doesn't work that well in the NFL. And there's questions about his system but I think that could be mitigated a bit by hiring experienced coordinators.
Personally, if I were Shad, I'd probably hire a GM and let the GM pick the coach but I guess we'll find out what he's planning soon enough.

Hiring Urban Meyer seems like an odd choice to me. Especially at this stage, when they've not interviewed anyone for the job. It's kind of like "Hey, how about Urban Meyer?" It makes it seem like Shad and Tony Khan are not serious about how they run the team. That's the impression it gives me.
