Pete had NFL experience.
Nick did not.
Johnson is the only coach who got an NFL head coaching job with no NFL experience and had any measure of success.
And that was a long time ago. Saban and Spurrier are more recent.
Saban spent a couple years as a Defensive Coordinator under Belichick in Cleveland, actually.

Question answered. Thanks!
Though he isn't my first choice, that was comforting to read.

That makes me extremely happy. He was one of my top 3 candidates. Now, I'm feeling pretty good.
I am more comfortable with Fontenot than Baalke.

This is good news. That way we'll have experienced coaches on staff to step in as interim HC when Meyer quits in a couple years.

Unless I have missed something in your post, both Pete Carroll and Nick Saban had prior NFL coaching experience before going into college.

Nick Saban did have prior NFL assistant experience.
He was on the Browns staff in 1994-1995 with Belichick. That was one of the best coaching staffs ever assembled.
I don't mind the Urban hire at all.. But now I'm super excited to see who he brings with him as his OC and DC..
Per PFT...https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2021/01/14/reports-urban-meyer-finalizing-deal-with-jaguars/
Do you think there’s any chance he takes Fields instead of Lawrence? That’s my only concern at the moment. Can’t skip out on a generational talent because of school bias..
Some of you need to chill...
You're talking plenty, and don't even know what you're talking about. Unless you've worked in the NFL you're just a casual fan like the rest of us. Just enjoy the ride!!! Not like you have millions invested like Khan.
You're all outdated...from what I've read it's not even odd or uncommon to hire a coach first. Like I said you farts are talking out your bleeps and your bumpkin mentalities are the reason the Jags have been a laughing stock. It's the BUMPKIN mentality of this town!!!
The NFL is a big boy game and business, things change fast.
So what Urban may only be here 3-5 years. Wish him success and play your position...fan.

To be fair, the last two, Kingsbury and Rhule, look solid so far. We'll see.
I'm more worried about GM than Meyer as HC right now. Coordinators will make or break Meyer
Yea but those two are good x and o guys, not sure urb know the diff between x and o he is a cheerleader ra ra guy i hope he hires really good Cordinators cause that is who is gonna make this team good. our luck he will keep wash and gruden

The rumors I have seen this morning think Fontenot is going to be the Falcons GM.

Not a chance. I have zero concerns about that. In fact, after watching Fields' press conference after the National Championship game, I'm not even convinced he is declaring. He sounded like a man who wasn't finished playing college football.
Fields has a chance to be the #1 pick... Next Year..
I have doubts that he declares.

If we don't have the ability to draft Trevor Lawrence, he doesn't agree to coach for us. There is now more than ever 0% chance we draft Fields.

That's not his choice to make unless Khan hires him as a GM/HC. Gawd, please don't let that be.

I keep hearing people say that, and it concerns me. But only because people are saying it, and not because I believe it. I just don't see the connection. Meyer left Ohio State before Justin Fields arrived.
Since when did a HC get the authority to make draft picks??

Saw that one too.
Not sure where Jags GM is heading but Fontenot would be a slam dunk.

So because we're fans we can't have opinions?
Because Khan invests millions it guarantees he makes the right coaching choices? Because we don't invest as much as Khan we have no interest/stake in the fortunes of the Jaguars?
The fans mentalities are why the Jaguars went 1-15 this past season and that we've had one winning season since 2008??
If your point is that some are worrying too much over the sequence of hire, fine. Cite your examples showing the opposite sequence has worked fine if you wish to bolster your argument. Dismissing the other side of the argument as having a "bumpkin mentality" without citing ANY evidence whatsoever makes you as guilty you claim everyone else here to be.
