Making your backup RT someone who has actually played the position before opposed to a "one foot out the door" floundering Cam Robinson is not the same thing.

LOL

You are right, it's not the same.  It could be more of a risk playing the backup over a healthy Cam.

Cam is pedestrian at LT and has never played RT. The coaches don't even trust him to play LG.

Putting him at RT out of the blue would be [BLEEP] disaster.
Cam had more value as waterboy than he does as RT

You have nothing on which to base this claim. We're erring on the side of caution, you're engaged in wishful thinking.
Welp -

For those of you that kept telling me Fortner will get better and Bartch will be fine, please let me know which week we should expect this to actually happen?
 Thank you.

They're better than rated in the pre-season, Bartch just got back on the field, and they're starting a rookie at RT, not to mention that Sherff already got dinged up. They have a ways to go, can we give them a few games together before we panic?

If they're winning games. It'll be fine. Just hope they don't have a repeat like last year with Lawrence in Detroit. This is the same issue that's plagued the Bengals now since Burrow has been on the scene.

We'll be able to scheme and hide their shortcomings but it'll be tough doing that in the games that count the most. Falls back on the front office. We had 13 selections back in April to help resolve some of these issues.

They addressed one starting need early and then waited until RD7 to address it again. One of the biggest ones being that they passed up on Torrence at Guard at some point. In fairness, a lot of teams did. So, we'll see.

This is going to be the biggest topic all year though. I don't expect them to look that much better against the Chiefs front this Sunday. I did like some of the plays they had with Lawrence. He had to create time for that TD to Ridley earlier in the game but they at least had that one designed rollout where he hit a nice pass in the 4th quarter.

They might have to do more of that here and there to get it done. It was also not surprising to see that he had 7 carries for 21 yards against the clots. He's going to have to do more of that this year. And honestly, in these big games? I hope he does take off more. If it means he has to run the damn ball 10+ times for 30+ yards to beat Mahomes, Burrow and Jackson this year?

Do it. Just don't get hurt.

I know we can make due, and I know we can win lots of games this way.

I just hate seeing the potential to be an unstoppable offense squandered, and I hate unnecessarily putting TL in harms way.
Yes he's young and agile, yes he has great escapability, but he's going to get caught awkwardly by one of these rushers blowing through our wet-paper-bag-IOL at some point. Or they are going to chase him into an edge rusher he didn't see coming.
Will we get lucky again that it doesn't result in a major injury like Cam's whiff last year?
I feel like it is a big gamble.

Anyway - I know full well that I harp on this crap almost incessantly - but it's all about protecting our greatest asset and utilizing our greatest strengths to their potential. I'm not trying to be right/wrong here. Just perturbed by the half [BLEEP] approach to pass protection.  (Sunday in indy, it significantly impacted the run game too)

Man those Little River Guys are high as heck.

As long as this season doesn't turn into their other song.

There is a big difference between now and 2008. We have 3 players on the practice squad who spent training camp with the team and 2 players who are eligible to return after week 4.
The issue is that it's the interior OL that's weak. The tackles are decent and in one case a rookie that needs experience.
Been a rough two weeks. Could easily be the area of the team that holds us back this year.
Harrison was bad today
The O line can’t give up 4 sacks and 7 additional pressures and expect to have success. Chris Jones did whatever he wanted today.
It would seem that Baalke has slightly over prioritized the playmakers and under prioritized the O-Line. Strange and Bigsby are fine but a big nasty guard would sit well with me.

Maybe even two

Strange and Bigsby were used seldom today. Thus adding more confusion as to why they didn't take Torrence at Guard.

I was certainly hoping for them to stay put and take him.
Horrible game from that line
