Out of all the top 10 olines right now only 1 team doesn't have a winning record and their oline is rated 10th. The top 9 rated olines all have a winning record

AFC South teams are probably ranked at the bottom.

Saying Garrett is the worst of those three is like saying you would pass up on hooking up with your dream girl because a hot super model threw her [BLEEP] on you first.

Either way? We'll all be hot and bothered when we see any of these three lining up on fresh meat.

Colts oline was ranked in the top 9.  I have to go back and look but I think they were ranked 6th

Right now, Little is doing well at LT, and is versatile, having filled in at RT, LG when needed, and playing on a rookie deal.

Cam is good at LT (not great), has not played other positions since college, has had multiple seasons ended by injury, and will be pricey.

I stick with the younger, healthier guy, for now. Things may change, anyone is a bad hit away from a ruined career.

But yes, I keep our money invested in skill position players and draft some interior help. Scherff isn't getting younger, and Bartch and Fortner can certainly be upgraded.

he played some RT, I believe. Regardless, that was 6-7 years ago minimum. It may just be that he's been slotted at LT the whole time he's been with us, but he's never demonstrated the adaptability to play any other spot on the line. Little gives you flexibility if you are weighing the plusses of one over the other.

He didn't play any RT in college.  He started LT at Alabama as a freshman.  He hasn't played any other position because LT is the most important position on the oline and he has always been a LT.  Played it at a high level at Alabama and was decent when we drafted him to play LT although he has had his rough moments.   Nobody knows If he has the adaptability to play RT/G or not because he never tried it.  Just like nobody knew if Little could do it or not until we played him there, same with guard.  I think Cam could be a very good LG and Doug even mentioned trying Cam out at LG.

BTW - the talk of trying Cam at left guard happened BEFORE camp. 
You haven't heard a peep about it since then, have you? 

Could that be because they tried it in camp and it wasn't good.
There is likely good reason that they played him at LT in the preseason games with the ones and with the twos and never at RT or LG.

Don't you think if they were at all serious about using him anywhere besides LT they would have gotten him a series worth of snaps at the alternate position in one of those games when he played 5 or 6 series at LT?

If he were at all serious about doing it he'd likely have gotten a look during camp. You know - when they are filming every rep, every snap and pouring over the film evaluating players for roster spots and depth designations. Seems like the right time to do that, no?

I think he said that just incase Little didn't look good at G which he did.  But if he does it I don't think he would of done it blindly.  Im sure he has talked to both of them about it.   Either way I'd be good with 

Cam-Little-Shatley-Scherrf-Harrison.  If Fortner looks good against Atlanta then I'd give him another game against Buf.  But if Fortner looks like he did in weeks 1 and 2 I'd replace him with Shatley

I believe the team's inability to run the ball traditionally up the middle in short yardage situations and the number of times those attempts fail are inexorably linked to the deficiencies I see at those positions.

Bumping the old thread and post since today's game again cemented the fact that our line is holding us back offensively. 

This post ^ from July laid out anticipated problems and they've all come to fruition. 
No pocket, no interior running lanes, questions at LG, C, RG and RT all have proven worthy concerns. 

Changes are likely coming with Cam coming back from suspension , but the interior is still bad and it's uncertain how much a shift is going to help. 

Cam, Little, Fortner, Scherff, Harrison 
 ^ Probably the most likely combo, but Shatley could enter the mix at a guard or center position.
Super long shot would be Cam playing anywhere but LT - but I guess it's still possible even if highly unlikely

The O-Line is super inconsistent. The play calling isn't doing them any favors. Even the announcers were calling out some bad play calls by our OC.

Yea I heard them, but the one guy wasn't happy with either team's calls.  He must have harped to Atlanta needing to move the pocket for 20 minutes.  So, To me that source is suspect as far as play calling..

I'm kidding - but the rate at which they block poorly is completely unsustainable.
If they somehow get through this season without putting Trevor in IR - and Baalke/ Pederson don't spend capital on OL help, I might actually join the legion of Baalke naysayers. Not there yet, but... that may do it.

We cannot afford to let Lawrence end up like Andrew Luck. Bludgeoned into an early retirement.
Or like David Carr - beaten into mediocrity-land by crap line play. (although TL already has smarter instincts on getting rid of the ball compared to Carr)

Go check the PFF grades from last year... And compare them to this year, New York "4" jags...  Get back to me after that...

Or...  you could just go and look at the posts I made last week.  The O-Line last year is comparable to this year...  But no, you continue to ignore my posts when I say that.  That's kinda silly for mod that is so well respected... Hmmmm...  Interesting....

I know JaWaan Taylor is an ongoing joke now in the NFL. But, it did make me sick seeing how much time Mahomes has in the pocket. Last night he had several instances of 2.5 to damn near 3+ seconds to dance around, scan, tuck it and run with it. 

I cannot believe we [BLEEP] up this badly with Lawrence. It's on both sides as well. We targeted everything except the lineman in free agency and the draft other than a few investments and we've FAILED in all aspects so far. 

Not holding my breath with Fortner much longer offensively. Scherff has been the equivalent of the offensive lineman version of Hugh Douglas. I genuinely feel like he coasts at times out there. Shatley playing LG felt better on Sunday than seeing Bartch out there. 

If Robinson and Little cannot fix the left side as a tandem, we're doomed. My hope is that Robinson and Little cause a ripple effect of maybe Fortner and Scherff fighting for the RG spot. I think at this point Shatley should probably go back to Center. We might sneak into the post season as the 4th seed. MIGHT. 

The AFC South looks more competent than most of us thought it would look like. This team is not running away with anything this year. It's going to be a dog fight for top dog in the AFC South all the way down to the final whistle in week 17 for probably two, maybe even three of us.

Scherff and Anton allowed zero pressures on Sunday.

LG and Center getting mollywhopped.

I have a hard time moving Little to LG because he's been so good at LT.

You kinda have to if cam is unwilling to move inside or just can't play guard. We need the best 5 guys put there right now. Cams not great but him and little on the ekft side is much better than little with bartch/Shatley. Stinks that fortner just looks like he's never gonna figure it out. Center needs to be near the top of our priority list next offseason.
