Quote:While true that it comes down to contract structure, it'll be interesting if Suh (and his agent) would be willing to agree with a team offering a contract with the big money near the end of the agreement vs a team offering him more upfront in the first year or two. While the back loaded contract would be more team friendly the front loaded deal would be extremely player friendly.
My guess is Ndamukong Suh and his agent Jimmy Sexton would agree to the big money later on in his contract providing Suh meets the criteria he's looking for in guaranteed money. But at least from my perspective, it gets back to the Jaguars and to a lesser extent a few other teams have much more flexibility to offer more guaranteed money because of their salary cap situation this season.
We've seen a lot of predictions such as 6/100 with 60 mil guaranteed. I wonder what would happen if the Jags offered something like 5/80, 100% of it guaranteed.
Kinda like what was rumored w/ how the Russ Wilson contract might be structured toward 100% guarantee with a somewhat lower AAV.
It ain't over till the ink dries on a contract. But yeah I could see him preferring South Beach.
I still don't understand how a team with under 10 million in cap space can afford Suh. Are they planning to backload it so that he makes like 70 million in 2018?
Quote:The latest rumor is that Suh to Miami is a "done deal."

"Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel said on Twitter Wednesday that teams believe Suh to the Dolphins is a “done" deal."
Omar Kelly is the worst.
I'm trying to find the link and cap info. Someone posted that Miami has cleared cap space even with the use of the Transition tag use.
EDIT:
http://espn.go.com/blog/miami-dolphins/p...salary-cap
They released players to free up space and according to the article, have more wiggle.

There's a lot of "creative thinking" in the article. It talks about how the Dolphins could get it done.
But I'm thinking, if they sign Suh, we can make an offer to transition-tagged TE Charles Clay, and because the Phins would probably be tight up against the cap as a result of signing Suh, we might be able to pry Charles Clay loose with a front-loaded deal.
You also have to wonder, with the Dolphins cutting all these veteran players to create cap room, if Suh would want to go to such a depleted roster.

Ndamukong Suh might end up signing with the Dolphins. But I'm highly skeptical that it's a done deal. Jimmy Sexton is too experienced/ successful of an agent to have a ' done deal' at this stage, knowing that another team ( s ) could easily drive up Suh's price that much more.

I will second that

I'm not sure how accurate the following information is. But according to MLive Lions beat writer Kyle Meinke, the Dolphins are now around $ 15 million under the salary cap. W/o saying, that amount is still eons from the Jaguars salary cap availability level:
http://www.mlive.com/lions/index.ssf/201...ssibl.html
They've cleared more than $13 million in cap space in the past week by cutting guard Nate Garner, cornerback Cortland Finnegan and receivers Brian Hartline and Brandon Gibson. They still don't have a ton to spend -- in fact, they have less than the Lions -- but they're up to about $15 million after their recent moves.
It is so hard to follow all this cap space stuff. I look at one site and the Dolphins have 15, look at another they have 9.5, look at another and its 12 and it is like this for every team and all these sites claim to be up to date to this second. I don't even know what true cap space numbers teams have. Most sites quote OverTheCap, so I'm hoping they are accurate, because they are the one I use.

I agree that it's difficult to get an accurate gauge on salary cap availability. For the most part, I hope that the information amongst the different websites is in a close enough range. What concerns me when trying to make assessments of a team's situation is when the range differs as much as I've seen with the Dolphins. Being that the Dolphins are being talked about as a major player for Ndamukong Suh's services, not having a true gauge on their salary cap situation has clouded the process from a discussion / prediction standpoint.
I am sorry, but no thanks to Suh. Or Cobb for that matter. Do people really want to go back to the good ole days of cap hell? Because to sign a big free agent we'd be mortgaging the future for the present, and frankly this team isn't one player away.

Not necessarily. They have enough cap space to front-load the contract of one or two big signings so that cutting them in 2017 (if need be) won't leave so much dead money against the cap.
The only catch is that you don't want to give a player with a questionable work ethic a front-loaded contract - so they must carefully examine each potential FA player with that in mind. (No one wants a Jerry Porter/Albert Haynesworth money grab & disappear act in Jax)
I think this is one of the reasons they hired Idzik. One more money-minded guy getting crafty with the upcoming FA contracts.
Says the selling point is no state tax...
Am I mistaken, but the Dolphins can't even discuss this with Suh until the 7th right? If that's true, this article and writer is full of it...
GO JAGS!!
So Dolphins and Jags will be competing for his services? We need to blow their contract out of the water or don't even get involved at all.

I wouldn't worry about that

Technically, the Dolphins can't talk to Jimmy Sexton, Ndamukong Suh's agent, until March 7. Technically, the Dolphins can't talk to Suh until the FA period begins on March 10. But there's no question that tampering exists in the NFL. To what extent tampering has happened in this case, especially directly or indirectly involving Sexton and the Dolphins, is anyone's guess. I'm going under the assumption that there has been direct or indirect contact.
