Quote:So you'd prioritize signing an elite defensive tackle, a position we're already in good shape at, over adding elite help at tight end, receiver, offensive tackle, and/or defensive end?
Julius Thomas is not an elite TE.

What elite OT, DE is going to hit the market?
Buyer beware with Suh.

He is a special player, but he acts like he is trying to get suspended.

Everything he has done has been on-field, which is a very good sign.

Give me Suh any day of the week. Not like he's got substance abuse issues.
Swinging for the fences if it doesn't work this might be caldwell last year

"Suh, Julius Thomas, and Bulaga make it happen!" Yeah that is setting yourself up to me massively disappointed if you want 3 #1 FA guys at their positions, which is absolutely what a lot, and I would say most, people have been saying between Cobb, Julius, Bulaga, JPP, McCourty, Maxwell, even DeMarco, etc...

What do you want people to say? Oh please oh please, may we sign Jermaine Gresham, or Rey Maualuga. People are allowed to desire more than a piece of turd covered in glass shards. When a team has as much cap space as the Jags, you are allowed to think of actually signing difference makers rather than trading your pieces of trash for somebody elses.

I cannot see the logic in this. You can fault a guy for having an addiction but don't care if another is a terrible person sober?

You can think about it, all I said is you're setting yourself up to be disappointed. As I said before, there are 17 teams with over 20+ mil in cap space and a lot of those that have over 40+ mil. Plenty of those teams like the Colts, Bears, Raiders, Jets, Browns (and I'm sure many others) have said they are going to be big spenders in FA also. We are going to be competing against teams that are perceived to be closer to contention and/or in a more desirable market. It's going to be hard enough to just get one of the #1 positional FAs competing against guys that have those perceived advantages plus a boatload of cap space themselves.

Something more realistic would be hoping for one of the big guys if we're lucky, and then filling in with a handful moderate guys like Clay or Paul at TE, Barksdale or Newton at RT, Ron Parker at FS, Brandon Graham to pass rush, etc.

Quote:The tag would eat all of their available cap.

The Lions would still have to free up around $ 10 million of salary cap space to be able to use the Franchise Tag on Ndamukong Suh.

Having said this,  I think the Lions should Franchise Suh if necessary.

The question I'm going to ask at this time is lets say for discussion sake that the Jaguars were in the same exact position as the Lions,  in terms of roster and salary cap situation.   Would you want the Jaguars to use the Franchise Tag on Suh if a long term contract agreement wasn't reached in the next few days?

From a football standpoint, you want the guy that's just a Rick on the field but is squeaky clean otherwise... Which Suh is.

The only issue Ndamukong Suh has had off the field ( not in recent seasons ) is he was a dangerous driver.  Otherwise,  Suh has indeed been squeaky clean.

In addition,  Suh has given plenty of money and time to charity.   Including back to the University of Nebraska.  So many negatives have been written about Suh.   Not enough has focused on the positives he brings to the table away from the NFL.

Agreed, D6.

I think Suh is about as clean a player as you could hope for.

He just plays like it's 1975.

Well said, SuperJville.

While I respect those that are concerned about Ndakumong Suh not maintaining his intensity and passion after he signs a new contract,   I don't think Suh is going to turn it down at all.   Suh came into the NFL as pick # 2 of the 2010 Draft,  the season before the new CBA rookie scale came into effect.   Hence,  Suh had $ 40 million + of guaranteed money after he signed his rookie contract.   That never stopped Suh from bringing everything and then-some.   Suh's emotions after the Lions extremely difficult playoff loss to the Cowboys further illustrates that football and winning is very important to him.
Suh's problem is is his on the field extracurricular activities are going to start getting him suspended. I think his incident with Aaron Rogers will be the last time he only receives a fine.

It would be a bitter pill to swallow if his indifference or lack of self control gets him suspended during a critical stretch of the season.

That almost happened to Detroit during the playoffs.

Quote:It feels different when he is your dirty player.

Not if you already hated him before he joined your team because he is a dirty player. If we drafted him and he started playing dirty as a Jaguar, you might have a point, but we are talking about a guy who was voted "dirtiest player in the NFL" twice by players before it was possible to see him in teal.
I actually think the Jaguars need a little dirty in them.

Too many times have I seen a guy on the opposing defense jump offside and just crush our QB, and nobody on our team does anything about it.

I think part of the reason we're losing is because that type of stuff is alright for our players.

I think Suh would make the perfect addition to this team.

Give me Suh and Greg Hardy. Trade back and hope Shelton is there. Awe, wut da heck.. Lemme get Aldon Smith too.
Yo, i was just thinking... What if a select few top tier free agents sorta got together and decided to all take their talents to North Florida in an effort to build on what's already buzzing in league circles as a great place to build a championship caliber team. There. In Jacksonville!

Would be nice if JAX had the equivalent of a Dwyane Wade to coerce other superstars to take their talents to "JAX BEACH."

I don't think JAX has that kind of player.
Well... To put it Short ...Blackmon. Nah i' kid. But that reminds me.. I wonder how Blake and the gang did/are doing in San Diego. Seems like alot of NFL players, as well as college guys, train in San Diego. At least this year anyway
