Quote:Money was exactly the point of the discussion.
AND AS I SAID...QB might be considered the exception.
and AS I SAID, even if the Saints "broke the bank" for him - it would've been a good signing.
So was the Reggie White and Deion Sanders signing in the 90s that made them the highest paid defensive players.
Signing Mario Williams has not in any way [BLEEP] the Bills' ability to find a good QB. So, why again was it a problem to sign a young productive player at a premium position?

Rectified.
Quote:Some people around here are "scared" of the contract, but are ok with paying Marcedes Lewis $8M/year, that logic makes a lot of sense. Suh would instantaneously be the best defender in the history of the Jaguars the moment he's signed, like you said, do it Caldwell.
No he wouldn't.
But he'd be up there.

Who's better? Stroud? Darius? Brackens?
Suh, talent wise, is better than all of them.

Yea he would. No one even really comes close.
I don't know. I agree with Jag'wired. You actually have to do something for a team before you can be the best ever.

Well duh, he hasn't played a game for anyone other than the lions yet.
If he plays for us similarly to how he played for the lions (if we sign him), he would be by far our best defensive player of all time. That's the point.
Reggie White to GB may have been one of the most impactful free agent signings ever, though idk if he necessarily broke the bank
Btw, that's what this sorta reminds me of, just a lil bizzaro world'ish'.. Best DT in football, but in this case we have the cardinal sinner, whereas Reggie was a saint

Buffalo's record with Williams:
6-10
6-10
9-7 'almost playoffs'
White and Sanders. Key signings for already good teams.
There's a HUGE difference.
If Suh was already a Jag, people would be begging Caldwell to resign him for exactly what he's asking for.
Suh is a once in a generation player. I like the fact that he plays hardcore oldschool nasty football vs Goodells two hand touch ball. If he becomes available with us sitting with the most cap space it would be a tragedy not to go and give him an offer. He may not want to come to a franchihse like this but as they say money talks and bs walks.

You need to check that out. He might have been part of a
team, with an in his prime Brett Favre. The year before they signed White the Packers were 9-7. They signed him and immediately improved to 9-7 his first year and 9-7 his second year. They didn't win the Super Bowl until his 4th year.

He average over 10 sacks a season for the packers, it's not due to his contribution they went 9-7...once again choosing what you want to look at.
OK, so the Bills haven't suddenly gotten good.
Nobody is claiming that one defensive player, no matter how good he is, can change a team's fortune that much.
It will still depend on Blake Bortles and his development. If he turns out good - wouldn't you want Suh on defensive destroying QBs?

That's a good way to look at it. Thinking in those terms, I would expect the team to increase wins by atleast twice as many if they were to bring in Suh. Atleast 6 wins
That's just the difference that Suh would make imo, but being that the team will have a few more difference makers, we can probably be fairly optimistic about a .500 win season

If the Jags sign Suh and then go 9-7 next year, the fans would be so excited that they would want a statue of Suh right out in front of the stadium.
I do have a hard time believing that the Lions let him get away, but I guess it is possible depending on what he wants contract-wise.

This is what I'm saying, it's not his fault they only went 9-7 he was a massive contributer, if we went 9-7 this year I don't know what Id do,..would be ecstatic

It's all about the QB. You are correct.
If Bortles turns out to be the star that I hope he is, I don't care who the surrounding pieces are.
Hell, I think last year's defense would have been plenty with a stud QB to keep the defense off the field for a while.
