I still think it's more likely that we see Nick Fairley on the market than Suh.

I'm way more concerned with getting a RT though

Why does everyone assume Suh isn't hitting the market? The Lions are cash strapped, it would almost $27M to franchise tag him, that's not happening. That means the Lions would have to sign him to a long term extension before March 10th, that's highly unlikely, Suh and his agent have all the leverage and will certainly text the FA waters. Suh his definitely hitting the market, there's no question about it.

Yes this be the #1 priority!

It would be idiotic for Suh and his agent to not at least test the market and entertain some offers. A player of his caliber only gets this opportunity once in a blue moon.

The #1 priority is signing game changing veteran talent on both sides of the ball.
Quote:If he becomes available, then you absolutely try to get him here.

Imagine this:

Fowler - Suh - Marks - Davis

on obvious passing downs
At last we are in agreement today!

I love the thought, though I am tempering my enthusiasm because there is still plenty of time for Detroit to franchise him or otherwise re-sign him before he hits the market.

Exactly, they're definitely testing the waters as they should.
Quote:Why do I feel this is more Lacinfora's speculation rather than a valid rumor?

This...Jags have money so will be associated and even expected to be interested in every high priced free agent.
Suh will test FA and we will probably give him a look.

Sign him.

Quote:Any big name FA is going to be mentioned in the same sentence as Jacksonville and/or Oakland, if nothing more than the fact we're among the teams with the most cap room.

Hope it's true that we've got a chance.  But if not him, I do expect at least one if not a couple big names signed just because we've got the firepower to go where some teams can't.

Of all the possible targets, he makes as much sense as anyone because he's the best at this position, and still relatively young compared to what you're used to seeing on the market.

I'm really skeptical that he'd leave Detroit.  They've focused a lot of energy on getting a deal done with him.  If they don't, then the Jags are certainly a team with the resources to bring any player including Suh into the fold.

There's no argument that he'd be a huge boost to the defense, but the contract he'd command is going to make it such that there need to be a whole lot of guarantees in there so that we don't wind up paying for past performance while ending up with Hugh Douglas at the end of the day.  He's young, and should be able to play at a high level for a few more  years.  But, there has to be some incentive in his deal to assure that he's not just vacationing here.

Again, I remain skeptical that he'll even be available when free agency begins.  But, if there's a way that happens and the team can get the right deal, go for it.  Nasty players on your roster are always tolerable.

On a side note, when has LaCanfora ever been right about something Jaguar related?

Sign him.
Agreed completely.

Do NOT let him leave Jacksonville without a signed contract.

RIP other AFC South QBs

Can you imagine this team if we signed Suh, Thomas and Bulaga?

How would that impact your draft strategy?

Would you still go after Williams if he is still on the board, or would you be more inclined to go after a LEO at 3?

Would you be more inclined to deal down?  If so, for what?

Trae Waynes?

Wonder if Suh could play in Red's role and set the edge? It's either that or he plays Miller's NT role. Not going to lie, a DLine of Suh, Marks, Clemons, Miller, Fowler (?), Branch, Davis, Smith, and Jones would be nasty.

I'm still think this is just speculation and would be shocked to see the Jags pursue Suh.

I'm not sure what role he would play but a player of his caliber may result in a slight tweak in defensive scheme.
Suh?!

Yes please..

Thing is, if nothing else, once Marks returned, we would have insane depth along the DL.  We'd have at least three starting caliber DTs...and if we signed Suh and drafted Williams on top of that, we could have any number of combinations we could run at DL.

Of course it's just speculation, we haven't actually been linked with anyone. It's simply "This guy is going to cost a whole lot of money, the Jags and Raiders have a whole lot of money. Link finished."

I'm not saying we aren't going to be making pushes for all of these guys, but the fan bases expectations are already way too high and reality is going to be harsh. As I just outlined in the updated salary cap topic, 17 teams have over 20+ mil to spend on FAs (many of them with 40+). The rest of the NFL isn't just going to clear the yellow brick road to let the Jaguars sign all the elite guys like a majority of people here think.
