Listening to Greg Cosell of NFL Films talk about Leonard Williams, he does not see Williams as a big pass rusher guy or even a 3 Tech type DT. Perhaps we are all buying into all the Mock Draft Talking Heads when it comes to Williams and maybe he is less than "all that".

Perhaps Dante Fowler is the way to go no matter what.

I love the idea of aggressively pursuing Suh and maybe Julius Thomas and then lets talk trade with the Eagles on a bargain basis.

If the Jags could get the first 5 draft picks from the Eagles for Pick 3, then they could move in the draft and grab 5 or so players in the Top 100. Perhaps as many as 7 if we use the Eagle's picks to move up into Rd 3.

Let's see what happens.

Perhaps the biggest reason against pursuing Suh is that he will cost what 2 or perhaps 3 Free Agent players will cost and who could fill specific roster needs.

If Dave Caldwell goes for him, I am behind him 100%.

How would this be for an offseason as far as the D-Line is concerned? Sign Suh to pair with Marks on the inside with lots of quality depth that we would have. Sign Hughes to man the LEO with all the depth that we would have there. Finally, draft Williams to man the edge-setting DE spot where Alualu and Bryant are. I saw some thoughts saying this position could be a natural fit for him.

Our D-Line would be Hughes/Suh/Marks/Williams. Some think that Hughes is only potent because of the stars he is working with, well now we would have plenty of stars of our own.

I think I might sign Dante Fowler to be the Jags version of Clay Mathews at the Otto LB position.

Dante Fowler played a lot of LB this year and dropped into coverage often in 2014.

Is there any reason why SenDerrick could not man the 5 Tech?

SenDerrick Marks seems similar to Michael Bennett of the Seahawks to me.

As I just outlined in the updated salary cap topic, 17 teams have over 20+ mil to spend on FAs (many of them with 40+).

The rest of the NFL isn't just going to clear the yellow brick road to let the Jaguars sign all the elite guys like a majority of people here think.

Excellent points,, and I completely agree with you.

Of course the Jags will pursue available players. But, many of the "big name" players that actually do make it to the market have more options besides the Jags or Raiders.
Wow. Imagine if we sign Suh & Julius Thomas. We could go anywhere in the draft, perhaps trade down with Mariota then stock up on linebackers
Won't the Lions just franchise him though? Franchise tag is such a get out of jail free card
Is not the Franchise Tag for Suh something on the order of 27 Mil for the Lions?

The step on Rodgers was only dirty in slowmo. We could use some Suhsteppin on Luck

The tag would eat all of their available cap.
If Suh keeps up his dominance, he'll be in the Hall of Fame. Make it happen Caldwell
What are the rules for a player refusing a Franchise Tag? Players don't want to be tagged, and would rather have a long term deal. If the Jaguars could give him a long term, I am assuming Suh would want to go for that.

Lions just cut Reggie Bush. That move should give them $1.7 million more in cap space.

I doubt we go get Suh. I would love him here but we will need to save our cap space to resign our recent draft picks. Why not spend that 16 mill a year to Suh for 2 elite players or 3 mediocre players? With 16-20 mill which is what Suh would make, give Cobb 10 mill, give McCourty 10 mill or Hughes 10 mill.

I'm not sure there's been a single poster who has suggested anything even remotely close to this (much less, a "majority"...)

Assuming everyone hits the FA market....

I would do anything I can to sign Suh.

Then I'd use the rest of the money and sign free agents like we usually do.. the 2nd-3rd tier Free Agents.

One stud like Suh is plenty.

So you'd prioritize signing an elite defensive tackle, a position we're already in good shape at, over adding elite help at tight end, receiver, offensive tackle, and/or defensive end?

I don't think Thomas is an elite TE.

I don't think Cobb is an elite WR.

I know Bulaga isn't an elite RT.

There are no elite DE's hitting free agency.

Suh will be a hall of famer if he keeps playing like he has.

DT is a position that we're OK at, but adding Suh would upgrade everything.

Miller is a decent tackle, Marks is good but hurt, after that there's not much.
Pretty sure the Lions had the best defense outside Seattle last year. Isn't Mathis still starting for them?
Well, people have said we need a player that the offense has to fear and take notice of on every play. Everybody was thinking that meant a LEO, but it very well could be a DT named SUUUUUUHHHHH!
