And that's one big reason why he's in there for now.

 

Unfortunately, this is another area where the Jags have been pretty bad this season.

Glad we're playing a team who can't rush the passer Sunday so we can eliminate this excuse. This will give Henne all the time he needs back there. But then again the blame game will just shift to the receivers after he fails so badly in this game.

Can somebody please tell me what incentive Bradley or Caldwell have to jump on the proverbial grenade to insulate Henne from criticism or blame under any and all circumstances?

 

Caldwell and Bradley (who presumably were on the same page based upon all of their representations on how draft deliberations work) drafted Bortles!

 

Their careers are tied to the team's success, which is tied to QB play.

 

It is in their interest to play the best guy and ensure he succeeds.

Their careers here are tied to wins and loses and those are piling up at a fast embarrassing rate. You're 100% right it's in their best interest to play the best guy(s) but they're being slow to do that. Can't continue to lose and keep those good parking spaces.

It's pretty much standard protocol for football teams to deflect blame from whoever is starting at QB.  That is until they actually make a change.

I get being a fan and wanting Bortles to play.

 

I LOVED what I saw of him this preseason, I hated what I saw of Henne last year and am underwhelmed by what I've seen thus far this year from Henne.

 

But I don't get the conspiracy theories being floated by those who want to see Bortles play.

It's the coaches own fault for people thinking that they don't care if they lose.  Jedd Fisch says Bortles is ready and that they aren't worried about him getting hurt.  Then what is it?  Why doesn't he play then?  Those are pretty much the only reasons that make somewhat sense.

 

Instead they give us this crap about how they feel strongly about Chad.  It's nonsense.

 

The real reason they are being slow to do it is paranoia.  They must be worried that Bortles would have a bad first game with the team right now.  The problem is if you don't want to put the best players out there for whatever reason, then it's really like you are mailing in the season.  Fans don't like that.

Just like the Jags have a thing for making opposing QBs look like Tom Brady, they also have a thing for making opposing defenses look like the 85 Bears.

Alfie does a good job of breaking down most of the rushing attempts and why they didn't work, but it will be dismissed because it's Alfie doing it. 

Everyone misses blocks on that play. The center is completely on the wrong side of his guy at the point of attack, Joeckel's guy pushes him to the side np, Beadles doesn't even touch an opposing player and 81 can't even get to his guy before he is on the RB(actually he was kinda blocked by Marcedes, so really Lewis is the only guy that made a block, too bad it was on his own teammate). Not protecting Marcedes at all on that play, but basically the whole team missed their block. Thats how you get 7 rushes for 8 yards and allow 10 sacks, everyone fails.

IIRC, Cutler was absolutely pounded on his first couple seasons with the Bears (last season, I really don't know).


Ryan was horrible last week against Cincy. Matthews was out. The Bengals terrorized him all game. He did get the ball out quickly before he took some sacks,, to the tune of 3 rushed INTs.


BTW, he had Julio, Roddy, Douglas, and all his RB.

This is actually interesting to me, because in years prior the team (coaches and players) always talked about how lucky the team was to have Meester to handle all that. Constantly called Meester one of, if not the, smartest guy on the team in terms of football IQ.

 

I wonder if Henne being tasked to handle the protection set ups is a subtle indictment of how much confidence the coaches don't have in the centers currently on the roster. :confused:

What would the coaches benefit by criticizing Henne for his poor performance? Really, what would they gain?

 

They watch the tape of the same game we see on Sundays, they can see the ineptitude of the entire offense, including the 7yr vet Henne.

 

They get to slowdown and breakdown the tape to see exactly why this ineptitude is happening out there. Who's missing blocks, who's getting run over by defenders, who's running the wrong routes, who's dropping catchable balls and anything else negative happening out there including Henne's miscues.

 

After what we have seen from the offense in the last 6 qtrs, scoring just 10 points, those meetings with the offense, when they go over the struggling tape, have to be unpleasant to sit through.

 

It's right there for all of them to see, and as we all know, it's not very pretty.

 

While most of us on here might be calling for BB to start, I really think that when the coaches see how bad the offensive line looks out there, and all the mistakes the young players are making out there, they just feel that it's just not the best position to put BB into.

 

You may not like it, but I just think that's what the coaches are thinking right now.

 

If the o-lone was playing better and Henne was struggling out there, I think they would have really considered putting BB in.

Interesting how it only took Pete Carroll a few practices to realize Russell Wilson was better then Flynn.  Not certain why it took Bradley so long to realize Bortles was a lot better then Henne.  Perhaps they were too busy looking at his footwork and completely ignored the other tangibles and intangibles that go into being a great QB.

Carroll was also a year further along in his rebuild and had more quality pieces in place to allow Wilson to succeed.
