A mob of 300 people is not the local police responsibility that's what the national guard is for. If and when there was civil unrest with police being targeted with bombs and cocktails, then you could address that specific area of concern. Maybe the solution would be to bring in the National Guard for a time like in Fergesun, but to assume police across America need MRAP's, APC, M4's, Grenade Launchers, Body Armor and so on is ludicrous. It enforces the viewpoint that's being drilled into them from the federal level America is a War Zone. It's the same justification that's been used to pass legislation such as the NDAA where the President (any president) has the power to detain and or assassinate American Citizens deemed a threat to the state!

Even if the governor immediately mobilizes the National Guard, it'll still take a day or two before any of it arrives.  So if it were a racial cleansing in a town, you allow genocide while you wait for the National Guard to arrive?  Or like I said, an active shooter with an automatic rifle, you wait a day or two to dispatch the National Guard to a school?

Your issues, again, seem to be armor and automatic weapons.  That is NOT militarization by today's standards.  It's called the modernization of the police force.  The civilian populace is more armed than 50 years ago so in turn the police's weaponry must advance accordingly.

I can tell you this:  If I'm a police officer, I am not running into a mall with my hand gun to fight 2 people with frag grenades, body armor, and automatic weapons.  That's called suicide.

Look at that one video like 25 years ago when those two armed men were marching down the street in I think LA with full armor and gunning down everyone.  It took the police hours and a lucky sniper shot between the armor to quell the situation.  But then again, police shouldn't have sniper rifles either, right?

How often is a national guard called?  I really think you are just confused on how things work in day to day society.

The national guard was called how long after there were protests and violence?  The police should do what when all this happened?  If they did nothing, you would be whining about that.

When was the last time you had racial genocide come on? I guess we could say maybe Mexico will invade one day and you'd need the police to have tanks to fight Mexico!

You're lumping the police into a category that puts them in charge of any and everything, that's NOT their role.

As soon as protest turn into riots the National Guard should be called but that's up to the governor. Secondly people shouldn't be dependent on government to protect their property. If they are and their property burns while the guard is called to bad don't wait on government next time.

This notion that if the police can't field a small army society will crumble and mobs will rule the streets is nothing more than a scare tactic sold to you by the establishment. Just like the war on terror is justification for the NDAA, the Patriot Act, the TSA, the NSA, the Homeland security. Just like if the government doesn't pass endless legislation their not being productive, we people must be ruled!

My lord when did we all become so depended on the almighty government?
Quote:You seem to be under the impression that these police are armed with military munitions.  Those "grenade launchers" launch smoke grenades.  These armored vehicles are just armored vehicles... There are no 50 caliber machine guns mounted and they aren't carrying ordinances.  They are for the protection of officers.

In previous posts, you seem to have a problem with police wearing riot gear during riots.  Makes sense...
Smoke Grenades? I think you may want to read what's really in those canisters.

I find the term first responders funny. The people that are at the scene are the first responders, they call the police, fire, whatever so they are technically the second responders...

Someone, somewhere will come take care of me/it/this!

I'm not sure what book you've read recently, but I think you are going off the deep end here.

So people should have enough fire power to protect their own property, but a trained police force should not?
To protect what? The police station? Sure?

The entire neighborhood? City? County? Region? State? Where do you stop?

A group of ten armed men come and invade your house.

You weren't able to shoot all of them before one of them got a shot on you first?  Too bad!

You weren't armed enough!

10 armed men come to my house the police wouldn't make it in time even if I gave them all the tanks, MRAP, M4 and body armor in the world.

The police don't prevent bad things from happening and trying to arm them so nothing bad ever happens is only counter productive. Instead of taking responsibility for our safety we've defaulted to the government, that solves nothing.

Individuals have the right to protect their property absolutely, where have I suggested the police should be disarmed? I object to the militarization or I guess the acceptable term is modernization of the force.

You might be able to hold off until the Police come.  Not so much the national guard.

And the police can respond without a tank, MRAPS and M4's to my house, it's a pointless argument. I'm just pointing out that bad things are ALWAYS going to happen no matter how much you modernize the police force. But ask yourself having the police run around looking like a para-military outfit does that help or hurt them connecting with the community? Ask yourself having the local police beat these riots back using whatever means necessary, does that hurt or help their effort to network with the community afterwards? Police prevent crime with their presence and ties to the community. If a community trust their local police they're much more likely to report problems to the police and tip them off to illegal activity.

To bridge the divide between the police and MANY communities not just the urban area's of massive cities, you have to demilitarize the force. You also have to end the talk of America is a War Zone perpetrated by the establishment from on high.

Feel free to list the number of incidents where local police have arrived at a house fire caused by angry looters with a tank.

You're right.  If we just stop talking about the violence, it will magically go away.

And unicorns will walk the streets, and rainbows will drop gumballs and candy for all the world to enjoy.

C'mon man.  Join us in the real world.

come on FBT you know that's not what I said don't argue with me like a lefty.

I told him regardless of how well armed a police force is it won't change their response time to his hypothetical problem with my home.

The rest of the post I'll just ignore as a satire, you know that's not what I've suggested.
If 10 guys invade my home, and one gets off the kill shot....no one will call the cops as I'm dead.

<b><i>"Lord, make my hand fast and accurate.</i></b>
<b><i>Let my aim be true and my hand faster</i></b>
<b><i>than those who would seek to destroy me.</i></b>
<b><i>Grant me victory over my foes </i></b><b><i>and those who wish to do harm to me and mine.</i></b>
<b><i>Let not my last thought be 'If I only had my gun."</i></b>
<b><i>And Lord, if today is truly the day you call me home</i></b>
<b><i>Let me die in a pile of empty brass." </i></b>

Quit reading Infowars.  You'll live longer.

He's over the top on plenty of stuff but also makes valid points and one of them is the threat of a police state.

There's Infowars truth, then there's reality.  He's always over the top. He may raise many valid points, but then he takes it a step further almost every time.

There are so many situations where police armed with automatic weapons and body armor is warranted and needed.  I don't see how you can say that you would rather wait for the National Guard if your life is in danger.  First of all, I promise you that the National Guard will not deploy to your house because 5 armed men are inside.

"Quick, get the governor on the line!  Eric's house has been broken into and he needs the National Guard ASAP!"

That gear that you fear so much is only used during dangerous situations.  You don't see local PD driving around with M4s slung and hand grenades on their vests.  Many patrol officers, however, do have a long arm in their trunk in a rack should the situation arise.
