Quote:How are the Jags a laughing stock taking a top 5 prospect? Please, explain that to me.

No kidding.
Quote:This is why we draft in the top 10 every year!!! Enough is enough.  When this pick is blasted by the national media we will say they are all wrong.  When you are in a room with 10 people and you think nine of them are insane and you are the smart one, maybe you are the insane one.  Welcome to a top 5 pick next year.
Maybe you don't understand The pick or just wanted your pick and is blinded by everything else...You draft for the future...with Watkins or Mack or anyone else we were expected to win 5-7 games next year...translation top 5-10 pick anyways...Winston will be the only real highly touted QB next year and should we wait til then and trade the future for him.  Just FYI Watkins or Mack will not win us games no matter how good they are... Mack is horribad in the pass coverage game and Watkins even if he was like Calvin Johnson status in year 1 well Detroit didn't make the playoffs either, and there is this guy named Andre Johnson considered the one of the top receivers in the league and didn't his team pick #1 overall.  With out a QB don't matter who you have out there and taking one in the lower half of the draft well that wouldn't have helped at all, and really no one to draft next year will be worth anything.  WR's and OLB's are a dime a Dozen.  Lets not forget that with the Watkins to Buffalo pick Stevie Johnson will Probably be up for trade, would be a good fit next to CS3.
When many of the plugged in media members have him high on their board it means that teams mostly had him as their #1 QB. CLE or OAK could have taken him, if Dave liked his guy no need to risk that.

IIRC someone tweeted Caldwell had received calls congratulating him with the pick from other GMs who had him first overall as well.

I so wish the national media would stop treating us like a laughingstock. Gosh. This is just totally embarrassing.

Gus Bradley & Dave Caldwell are creating impressive culture in Jacksonville — like few I’ve seen in NFL. Such positive vibes here this week.

No question. Fantastic organization. RT @MendezChisox006: Has your view on the Jaguars changed in any way since these last couple days?

Quote:Actually threads like this and the fire Caldwell thread is what makes us the laughing stock of the league.

Bingo.

Yeah, it really does suck to be so ridiculed in the media.
Quote:We are so used to losing we accept this and anyone who challenges it is called dumb
Not dumb....just wrong IMHO
Quote:Saw him in college
I just thing you are wrong...I guess time will tell who is correct
Quote:Regardless of where you stand on the Bortles pick, this pitchfork and torch mentality of immediately blasting the team without allowing ANYTHING to play out on the field is nothing more than the same kind of mindset that got Coughlin fired and put Gabbert behind the 8 ball.  You're referencing those items, but you're doing the exact same thing here.  Is it that difficult to practice a little restraint and wait to see what actually happens where Bortles is concerned?  Or, is it better to go with the knee jerk reaction the way the anti-Coughlin/Gabbert crowd did from the start?

If your position is wait and see and you have no opinion on the pick (or are unwilling to admit to one), why do you have nearly half the posts on the thread?

Come on Carly, you're better than that. There are lots of positive comments, and lots of negative comments. The post-draft analysis always tends toward positive, with very few teams getting worse than a B-   .... no matter how much of a reach the pick was. Even Alualu had more positive grades than negative.

A few places were giving us an F for the pick.  Walterfootball gave us the ridiculous "Millen on LSD" grade. For Alualu.  And even they gave us a B- for Bortles.

I shouldn't respond to posts directed at me?  I'm not sure what the post volume has to do with anything.  As far as being unwilling to admit to something, what should I be admitting to exactly?  That I love or hate the pick?  Is it not okay to be surprised by the selection while taking a wait and see approach to see what the plan is for the kid?  We must have some sort of summary judgment immediately in your opinion?

I've stated I'm fine with the pick.  I'm hopeful he becomes what they expect he will be for this franchise.  What more am I supposed to think about the pick at this point?

I think most fans have an opinion of the pick, right or wrong, good or bad. It's unusual to have no opinion. IMO it's silly to argue about other people's opinions without having one.

My personal opinion is that the Jags reached. Caldwell should have traded down. I'd be very happy if the Jags took Bortles at #9 and netted a 2015 1st round pick in the process. There were other good players available at #9 if Bortles was picked before then. No player is a sure thing, so we're dealing with odds here. I think the odds of improving the team would have increased significantly had the Jags traded down. I know there are a lot of people saying the trade wasn't available. A sharp GM can make it available. Buffalo had nothing to lose, and a lot to gain, by making the same trade with the Jags that they did with Cleveland. It's not like we're in the same division.

Some have likened him to Gabbert, some to Roethlisberger, but I think both comparisons are off the mark. I'd say he's most like Trent Dilfer. Good steady player, but not a guy who will take over a game and win it for you.

i was upset at first  but i was so in love with clowney and watkins i would have been upset anyway. after taking a step back this guy could have the stuff after all you never can tell. i was just hoping for more picks and that may have been too greedy.

I was a little miffed about it last night, but have warmed up to the pick quite a bit today. For me, it wasn't so much who was selected, but the fact that they want to sit the guy for as much as the whole season.

If it works out, I'm good with it. I'm pumped for the next picks now! Banana

Too bad Buffalo didn't call the Jags.
Quote:It's not instant turnaround.  They must suck.  Everyone knows in Madden you can rebuild a team in about an hour.
Typical blind homers mention Madden.  What player is there on this rostr that can create the turnaround ou are speaking of?  We have as many impact players as we do purple elephants
Quote:Yeah, taking one of the top QBs in the draft this year is really a silly way to move forward with the rebuilding process.  We should have just drafted a receiver and grabbed Garoppolo, or better yet, just moved forward with Henne.  That would have been a better approach.
We basically forfeited our pick at #3.  You normally dont pick at this spot when you are loaded as you think
Quote:No kidding.
I'll tell you after our Monday I mean Sunday I mean Thursday night primetime game.
