Quote:I can agree and respect fans like you. Its the guys who thinks that anyone who disagrees with one of the worst franchises in the league is a idiot. I am still a Jags fan. I just would like to compete and be nationally relevant
Well, let it play out.
Let's face it, even if the plan were to play Bortles from day 1 and we definitely hit on the pick, we still likely weren't going to the playoffs this year anyway with the remaining deficiencies on the roster.
Quote:This is why we draft in the top 10 every year!!! Enough is enough. When this pick is blasted by the national media we will say they are all wrong. When you are in a room with 10 people and you think nine of them are insane and you are the smart one, maybe you are the insane one. Welcome to a top 5 pick next year.
Here's some National Media for you, an A+, only one of draft by cbssportsline.com

And really though, who cares what they say?
Quote:WHO SAID I WANTED MANZIEL??? I wanted Matthews or Watkins or possibly Mack
Mea culpa then.
I thought I read you wanted manziel.
No matter.
The dynamic doesn't change.
Neither Matthews nor Watkins alone makes this a playoff team this year.
Quote:Your logic is twisted.
You think Gabbert was a miss, but can bare the idea of starting Bortles?
My logic is sound.
You have no QB-you have the chance to get a guy you think is a franchise QB...you take the guy you think is a franchise QB.
Under your rationale, you miss on one QB, you never draft another one.
Where would the Colts be adhering to that philosophy after missing on Art Schlicter, John Elway, and Jeff George?
Where would the Ravens be after missing on Boller?

Ive seen this movie before. We think we are smarter than everyone else and are wrong. Now we will make other stupid decisions to support the Bortles pick

A avg qb vs avg competition that put up abg stats sure will

The Jags will never be the worst team in a league that has the Oakland Raiders and the Cleveland Browns. Maybe choosing the Bucs or Dolphins would make you happier.
Quote:Which ones have worked???
this isn't gene smith drafting genius. Quit being so negative it's not gonna change anything for you.
In all honesty, I wouldn't really expect us to compete for the play-offs this year. We are very much a rebuilding team and there is many positions we could improve but we just have to be patient. Our time will come eventually and Bortles is a QB who has the potential to be very good. Let's not jump to any conclusions before he and the team have even played a game.

Cleveland has a far better roster. The Raiders despite what they are now were good in the 70's and have played in a Super Bowl this century.

How has wiping the front office's butt like some fans helped us in the win column

We need Bortles on the field right away. None of this double-standard stuff cuts it.
Caldwell and Bradley need to prove they aren't yellow. The only way is to start Bortles right away. What could possible go wrong? He's the third over-all pick and we can't do a thing with him?
Makes all the sense in the world. We should hope the new regime acts like idiots to stay consistent with the last regime. Brilliant.
The trajectory of the Jags is UP. Looking forward to the rest of the draft.

Dude. Change your tampon.

He's no Garrard or Gabbert. Both were thrown to the wolves in their rookie year. Caldwell has said: ''We can't just throw him out there. We've seen what happens when that happens." Bortles will be what Brunell was when Beurlein fell to the way side. If one remembers, he and Favre we're considered throw aways. Look what happened: Brunell led the team to a hair's breath of making history, and [Brett] Favre led the Packers to at least 4 Super Bowls. Caldwell even said of "Jadeveon Clowney would have fallen to No. 3, ''we still would have made this pick.'"
So be patient. This guy will be what this team needs. I'm more than sure of it. There's a Super Bowl in the near future.
Besides, he's not a Keyshawn or those others saying, "Me. Me. Me. to hell with the team."
Quote:1. Shack rebuilt a team that had 3 straight losing seasons and was salary cap strapped and took them to the playoffs. He was only terrible with his first round picks.
2. Gene smith sucked, and I didn't make excuses for him.
3. What excuses am I or anyone else making for Caldwell?!?
4. If the Jaguars had taken your guy Manziel, how would the dynamic be any different? He'd have absolutely zero help around him. He'd still be inexperienced. The team would still be a long way away.
We had a lot of Tom Coughlin's players in key positions still on the team. As they vanished the team's fortunes changed.
In our last playoff season, 2007, we still had about ten TC players and these were the core of our team.

No, Oakland has not. Both those teams have records of epic futility since the turn of the century. The Jaguars only got terrible under Gene Smith. We're on the way back under Caldwell.

This has the potential to be one of the dumbest posts I've ever seen on this board.

No, wait. I was wrong. This one certainly has some potential.
Quote:Ive seen this movie before. We think we are smarter than everyone else and are wrong. Now we will make other stupid decisions to support the Bortles pick
I think the fact Cleveland traded down immediately after the Bortles pick is instructive.
One of the reasons teams trade down is because they want more picks, though Cleveland didn't get any picks this year aside from the 9 they swapped from Buffalo.
But another reason teams trade down is because the guy they want to take is off the board.
Cleveland needed a QB.
Bortles was taken right before their pick.
They traded down.

And who exactly would that be?
