What other candidates are not currently coaching for an NFL team at the moment? You mean college candidates?

Yeah, we'll probably do more serious interviews next week after Black Monday. We could see a number of guys fired a week from today. I'm keeping my eye on Lewis since Cincy was officially eliminated
Quote:I don't disagree, but the Bills GM is about to get to hire his 3rd HC so I wouldn't count out anything if Dave can sell a good story to Shad.

Bills team is uber talented. Idk how a coach isnt getting more out of that even with the injuries.

I think Mornone will be early next week, then we will get a list of other guys after black monday
Can we just hire Coughlin for HC and then keep Marrone as the HC in waiting? Heck, I'd be cool with most of the staff returning except for maybe a new ST Coordinator.
Big TC fan but like a lot of people don't know about the age thing.  At 71 he coaches what maybe 2 or 3 years.  Is he already starting to lose the edge?  The Giants were 6-10 last year and 10-5 this year.

I made that up.
Some perspective on the Giants situation in Coughlin's final year there in 2015...

They had the 32nd ranked passing defense last year and going into the 2015 draft they didn't have a Safety on the roster IIRC. They picked up Landon Collins in that draft which wasn't surprising when they picked him at the top of the 2nd round. Although Collins was a good pick, he was still a rookie that year. The other guys they picked up in free agency after the draft last year are no longer in the league. Jerry Reese's lack of planning and foresight at that position heavily contributed to the team's defensive woes in 2015 and that then led to Coughlin's dismissal.

Also, JPP blew his hand off in a fireworks incident in July of 2015 and wasn't nearly as effective in the 8 games he played in that season. Little to no help from the safety position that year coupled with a significant hit to the pass rush and the results aren't all that surprising.

These two personnel issues were out of Coughlin's control but significantly contributed to the team's record that year which ultimately got him fired. Jacksonville would be very fortunate to land Coughlin a second time in my opinion. Even if it's only for 3 years.

To be fair, the first coach wasn't fired. Whaley is hiring his third coach, but technically he's only surviving one failed coach (Rex Ryan).

Well stated, Meister. I live in NYC intermittently. Concur on all counts. TC at 70 still a clear cut above the names in the mix. It's a win now league. Incessant future consideration impedes instant success.

0-6 and then 2-8 is not lucky.  Stop making excuses.

Then you would know his last two years they started out terrible. And one player is not end all be all outside of qb.

Well it would help if you looked at the Giants roster in 2014 and 2015 yourself. But feel free to ignore evidence that contradicts your opinion if you want. The amount of defensive players that played significant time those two years and then immediately disappeared from the league is a little alarming. Those are personnel issues. The Giants clearly had personnel issues on defense in those years which is why their record suffered. How much input Coughlin had on brining in personnel I don't know, but Jerry Reese is ultimately responsible for it and from the looks of it he hamstrung the Giants defense pretty good by not bringing in better talent sooner.

Imagine that.  Using evidence and reason.  Clearly beyond many posters on the board.

TTR is not the brightest bulb.....

Because Taylor is overrated and not that great of a QB.

Hes not a great qb no. But a top 3 rb, good OL, defense with that much talent should be a playoff team with a mediocre level QB like Tyrod.

Oh I agree I was just giving you my reasons on why I thought they sputtered. The rest of the team is pretty good.
