As do reporters from other sources.
Except when they don't.

The more I think about it, it would be absolutely moronic for the Jags NOT to hire TC.

It makes too much sense from a football and fan revival perspective. If he goes on and makes Buffalo a contender, that may be the final #becausejaguars moment this fan base can take.

Honestly, hiring Coughlin might be the only reason they fired Gus last week. It's not like they can interview anyone who is currently on someones staff.

People just assumed TC would want JAX and nothing else but I'm not sure I see it. I think Buffalo has a legit shot as being just as interesting to him. I mean he's from New York, he still has grandchildren up in that area. Not for sure where he lives currently. I know he has a house here but I think he has a house in NY too.

People keep saying this but I don't think so. Caldwell is going to do his due diligence. This is his last hire. He isn't going to hire TC on the spot and not interview McDaniels, Haley, Austin, Shanny, etc.

He already contacted Bradley to join his staff

I agree that he's going to do his homework but there is no reason to fire Gus with 2 games to go. Gus was dead already. You fire him if you want to jump start the interview process and he can't even interview the majority of the coaches.
I think the odds of failure are lower with TC than any of the aforementioned. Yes, it's sad, at this point I'm all about odds of not failing vs being successful, lol.
My gut tells me hiring Mike Smith would be a huge mistake.

I don't see it that way really.

I think if Mike Smith got a good OC to come with him (Just like if Marvin Lewis got a good OC) I think this team would be good next year.

I think if Coughlin became VP and Smith/Lewis becomes the HC, you're looking really good for 2017.

Where does Caldwell fall in that mix? Are he and TC collaborating on personnel in that situation?

Well, they didn't like the idea of the GM/Owner/Tony etc. being in a room finding his replacement while Gus is out there working when he's a lame duck apparently. On top of that, we may want to bring in Coughlin/College coaches prior to Black Monday to get a jump start on it. They seem to really want to get the coaching hire done quickly, but that doesn't mean in December or anything.

I think they want to be able to get a coaching staff done quickly. Last time we were around the last, the earlier the better when it comes to putting together a staff. I think that's all this was.

Caldwell is already on thin ice. I think he is going to do whatever it takes to stay here. And if that means listening to old man Coughlin, he's going to do that. I wouldn't be shocked if they are currently talking right now trying to see if they can be on the same page. If they get along, I think they look for Smith or Lewis.

Then McCoy for OC.

Agreed.

Falcons offenses in those early years were great. He just didn't have the talent on defense to build a defense solid enough. He seems to allow the OC to do whatever he wants. How is that job not absolutely awesome for some offensive mind to take? Can give the assistant HC label to maybe steal a guy/make it more lucrative as he's obviously the defensive mind of the team.
Kind of depends on what TC wants. If he wants to coach and that isn't what we are offering, I can easily see him in Buffalo, but if he is happy with an office job, it would probably be here, but something tells me TC has a bit of an ego that would love nothing better than to make the Jags prominent again. Again, this is all gut speculation.

Here we go again. Perhaps I missed it. What would Coughlin do?
Quote:The more I think about it, this is a great opportunity for Tom! If he could somehow come back, turn this franchise around, and dare I say win another Super Bowl, he would have to be in the discussion for greatest coach of all time!

Not soo fast my friend...
I'd love TC or Mike Smith on our sidelines as HC.
Still no he is too old.

I think the job preservation part for Caldwell might be the biggest reason he would go for Coughlin. If it doesn't work out he can say, kind of like he just did with Gus, "look he wasn't my guy, but I went with who would make the rest of the franchise and the fanbase happy."
