Quote:Imagine that. Using evidence and reason. Clearly beyond many posters on the board.
lol ... just like most people did regarding Gus Bradley.
Many of the same people who blamed Bradley for
everything will overlook many things regarding Tom.
Hope springs eternal. At least for a few games. Then the "old man" jokes will start.
Maybe snag Rex Ryan to be defensive coordinator? Keep Marrone as OL/Assistant Head Coach and Hackett seems to have given our offense a little juice.

I may be in the minority, but Rex is a solid coach just has a big mouth. He would be able to take this roster and get it into shape for next season. However, it seems he comes with baggage plus he runs a 34, I think he may need to take a break for a while. I would not be opposed to an interview for him though.
Tom really shouldn't even have to interview. You either think he's too old or you don't. That's the only question imo

Interviews are necessary if you're running a billion dollar franchise. Always be professional, don't cut corners.

Not at all. You need to know his staff, how he feels about the current roster and what needs to be done going forward, how he plans to use guys, etc.
Theres sooo much to talk about, you dont just hand a job like this to someone

I get your point, but your talking about a billion dollar business, LOL. Obviously, if your Gus Bradley, Tom Coughlin or Bill Bellicheck, your going to be interviewed for a possible job.
Quote:Honestly, I'd love to have Coughlin reunited w/our organization. Having him as a HC would be a short term fix as we need a long term fix at that position. How many years could he attribute to the job and how well could it be done giving the fact that we all decline in our golden years? As it's been previously stated, I do admire the thought of him being HC and grooming youth for the position. That'll be the best scenario that we could have. Also the statements of Coughlin assisting Caldwell on selecting talent is not going to happen. Caldwell does a good job on his own and we don't need another evaluator to hinder the process. One GM, One Voice. The ultimate would be to hire a young HC and hire Coughlin as a mentor that'll oversee the daily football operations/training/practices.
NH3...
I agree.
However....
I would actually be happy with Doug Marone as HC.
He's so much better at the game day thing than Gus was.
Hell... Apparently he's better at a lot more than Gus was...
I'd be happy with him...And I believe we'd have won the AFC South this year is he had the wheel from game one this year.
Why take a chance with a different guy? New assistant coaches, new scheme...
We get a new guy other than Marone and we're gonna prolly lose a bunch of games next year and blame the new system taking time to be learned...
That's B's.
I wanna win.
I wanna win now.

So who's HC in that scenario? Coughlin?
I'm warming to the idea of Marone as HC, I think he will most likely be a Head Coach somewhere in the league next year and with his familiarity of our roster why not here?

I would not be opposed to Marrone, but it would be a tough to sell to the fanbase in general. There just isnt enough of game experience with this guy. Had we fired Bradley after the Thursday Night game and hired Marrone as the interim coach then maybe we would of got a better idea of Marrone. But two meaningless games after the head coach was fired is just not enough to convince me the is the right guy. Team played well last week, but I'm not convinced that Doug Marrone was the reason they played so well. This is the same guy that walked out on the Bills, I'm just not convinced. Id rather go a different approach.

yeah the idea of not interviewing someone you are going to hire is fairly ignorant from a business stand point.
you need to know what direction he plans on taking the team, how long he plans on coaching for, find out what he thinks about the rest of the staff. its a huge process, this isnt hiring a new bag boy at the grocery store.
"He has a five year plan."
"What is it? Don't die?"

All valid points, especially the one about the tough sell to the fan base.
Quote:If he's smarter with his own money than he was with the salary cap he'll never have to work again, though I'm sure he could catch on as a regional scout if he actually wanted to do that.
Though I prefer the thought of him asking me if I prefer paper or plastic.
Gene was actually good with the cap, that was never his issue. He just wasn't good at identifying talent. Well, he wasn't as good as he thought he was. I am sure Gene is doing fine with his money. He did get a what, 3 year extension only a year before getting fired?
Quote:In his eight seasons in Cincinnati before Dalton, Lewis was 0-2 in the playoffs.
With his starting QB out the first time, and Palmer laying a dud the second time. It isn't all his fault.

I think Khan has made it pretty clear he's not going to run the team with the fan base in mind. Which is a good thing.
The fan base will be on board with anyone who wins. Coughlin would obviously be well received, especially by older fans who actually remember the 1990s, but I think Khan will do what he thinks is right, regardless of it's initial impact on the sale of season tickets.
Tom Coughlin seeking full control? Here's a blurb regarding the bills situation:
Quote:Tom Coughlin wouldn't be fine with that. At 70 years old and with two Super Bowl rings, he's not interested in returning to the sidelines simply because he misses being there and would take any opportunity offered. He would want full control of the football operation, including final say on the 53-man roster. That does not fit Whaley's agenda.

Yeah sorry, Tom, but if that is the case, I do not want you in Jacksonville.

I'd love to know where he gets that information. He just throws it out there as if it's fact.
