* He's not the consensus # 1 player in the draft (see Andrew Luck)
* He's not the consensus # 1 QB in his own class (see Geno Smith)
* He has no elite skills or traits
* Below average size for the position
* The Texans seem willing to move down from the # 1 overall pick, with a dire need at QB
As you begin to evaluate him as a prospect you see a good QB with a high floor but a suspect ceiling. (Game manager) In the right system he could be decent but he's not a player who will elevate the rest of the team by himself like you would like to see from a franchise QB.
When you step back and look at everything with an unbiased eye there's no way you can make a case for Bridgewater as a QB who should go # 1 overall. He's not a Manning, Luck, RG3 level prospect. He's more in line with the Alex/Geno Smiths' of the NFL world.
He's good but not great.
Edit: Mods could you please correct the title (typing on my phone Ugh!)
He's the best QB in the class, at least IMO. Leaps and bounds better than Geno Smith as a prospect, and I think he has a good chance of being a franchise QB.
He has great field awareness and pocket movement. Good mobility, but doesn't use it as a crutch only really scrambles when needed & when scrambling doesn't drop his eye level keeps his sight down field, has the arm to make all the throws deadly accurate short & intermediate, could use some work on deep balls.
He does look a little small, but he'll probably put on some weight between now and May in prep for the NFL.
The fact that you compare him to Geno Smith invalidates your entire argument...
I swore in 1998 that the same things were said about another QB in the draft?????
I can't put my finger on it but I think it was a Manning????
Quote:* He's not the consensus # 1 player in the draft (see Andrew Luck) If it weren't for Clowney (a once in a generation DE prospect) he would be.
* He's not the consensus # 1 QB in his own class (see Geno Smith) False.
* He has no elite skills or traits Strike two. Pocket presence, touch, decision making and football IQ are all extremely rare for an NFL QB, let alone a college Jr.
* Below average size for the position Brees, Wilson, etc. He's actually not a bad size, as he weighs to about 220 6'3"
. Brady, by comparison is 6'5" 225.
* The Texans seem willing to move down from the # 1 overall pick, with a dire need at QB What does that have to do with anything? Teams make stupid decisions all the time
.

He's already been compared to "A more polished Geno Smith ".
I can't make this stuff up folks.

If you mean by dark skinned and skinny I would agree, he tends to show a bit of sheen when the lights illuminate him on camera
I say your dead wrong Knarnn
Dude has shown me every thing I need to see in a QB.

He also been compared to Rodgers, Manning and Brees.

NFL media draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah says that if Louisville junior quarterback Teddy Bridgewater decides to turn pro, he will be "elevated above his ability."
"He's not in the same class as some of the elite guys we've seen come out over the last few years," Jeremiah said this week on Fox Sports' Peter Schrager Podcast. "He's not Cam [Newton], he's not Andrew Luck. I liked 'RG3' [Robert Griffin III] better when he came out, as well. I do like him better than anyone we had in last year's draft class. If he does come out, I see him getting elevated above his ability."
NFL Media draft analyst Charles Davis said on the same podcast that he likes Bridgewater "a bunch." But he also said, "I'm not sure he's a top-10 guy, but I think he may get picked in the top 10."
Davis said quarterbacks often get overrated because if an NFL team doesn't have a guy it can count on at the position, "You're in trouble. I think sometimes we artificially boost these guys up because people are just terrified. What's the alternative? What do we do? Where do we go?"

Teddy Bridgewater with a top three pick? The talent doesn't fit the draft pick value. Why take an average quarterback like Bridgewater when we can take a player at another position with elite talent? Say Texas A&M OT Jake Matthews or Michigan OT Taylor Lewan. Matthews is clearly the best football player in the draft. Lewan is not far behind him and carries the highly coveted 'Big Nasty' reputation.
I want 'Big Nasty' on my football team.

You are quoting from NFL.com....
And when they grade prospects it is on pure physical ability, if you take a look at his intangibles it is not even a question. Bridgewater is a better qb than RG3, easily and very similar to Luck
knarnn who's your top QB in this draft class?
Quote:NFL.com's Jeremiah offered this: "From the grades I've handed out, I'd have (Bridgewater) behind (Matthew) Stafford. I'd have him in that Ryan Tannehill group, probably, I'd have him behind RG3. I'd have him over (Mark) Sanchez when he came out. I liked Alex Smith when he came out, so grade-wise I'd have him right there with Alex Smith."

You keep quoting the same dude. Come up with something new, or better yet your OWN evaluations.
Quote:knarnn who's your top QB in this draft class?
I still think he is the best QB in an okay QB class. But that's not saying much. He's not worth the hype and praise I see in this board on a daily basis.

Why isn't he?

Instead of reading what people say, watch him play.
See Smith, Geno: fans fall in love with guy when we're in desperate need for a franchise QB.
And love is blind.
