Has Manhertz played TE before?
Has Manhertz been out of football for 8 years?
If you want to rationalize it like that fine. But if they had brought in...you know...an actual TE he might not have been '5th on the depth chart'.

Manhertz was 24 years old when he came into the NFL/started to learn the TE position, not 34.
Nobody on the Bills cared/even knew about it because the national media didn't lead off every story with him being the main stay as a 34 year old converted has been. The fact that you're trying to compare their situations is laughable and flat out stupid honestly.
Nobody has a problem with trying to convert a former basketball player, who's 6'6, 260 pounds and 24 years old to possibly be the 4th/5th string TE at the back end of the roster.
The problem is that the guy some people are hyping up/who's getting headlines (which is why people are talking about it) is a 34 year old, 6'3, 240 pound former QB who hasn't played the game in 9 years, who's now trying to convert to TE. Tebow is only relevant because of his College days. Great College career, nobody can deny that, but that was 13 years ago, time to move on.
Get off the dumb [BLEEP] that people just want to see Tebow fail. It's not that people want him to fail, it's that we've already seen him fail multiple times in the NFL, which is why he went to minor league baseball. He had his shot with the Broncos. He then had a shot with the Jets. He then had a shot with the Patriots and then a shot with the Eagles. He has already had multiple chances and that was when he was in his prime.
