He was so oppressed when he signed that $100 mil contract.

This. Lol
You want to make a change? Here is a thought, why don't you try persuasive argumentation? What is not standing for the anthem going to do other than make you look like an idiot.

Right?!

"I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color," Kaepernick told NFL Media in an exclusive interview after the game.

But he'll gladly accept his paycheck he makes in this country and spend said money on things in this country.

Are you saying if you protest things in this country, don't attempt to make a living? I don't see how the two are correlated. He seems to be protesting societal changes not economic changes.

You must have missed the memo. Not standing up for the anthem is going to reduce crime and poverty in minority communities.

I think what he's trying to say is that saying minorities are oppressed in this country when you are a minority yourself making millions of dollars seems a bit ironic.

The societal changes he wants to see are economic related but that's a whole different conversation.
This guy is a walking, breathing, dumpster fire.

It's too bad because he's a gifted player.

This "protest" accomplishes what exactly? Furthering this black lives matter movement? How? What good does this accomplish?
Quote:He is disrespecting our country, that's the problem.

is he though?
Quote:is he though?

If people think he is, does it really matter? Perception is reality for most people.

That's the flaw in the logic. He himself may not be oppressed but that does not mean it's true for others. The stand isn't a one size fits all solution, it simply brings more light. Minorities aren't the only ones being oppressed in this country.
I side with Doc here, as a Vet I defended all freedom in this country, not just what I agreed with. If someone wants to take a giant deuce on the flag I defend their right to do that without penalty from the government. That being said I would congratulate them with a closed high five to their check again and again, just to show how much I appreciate what they are doing

What is an acceptable form of protest you would accept without resorting to violence and who has the right to do it?

Lol, good point. You either accept all protest, albeit non violent, or none. Meaning just because you don't like something doesn't mean it shouldn't be said or done. Discourse is a good thing because it precludes change. To your point, violence is never the right answer in civility, and I do not advocate its use, my comment was more jovial than actual.
Clearly nobody here has ever heard of Muhammad Ali....
Quote:He's "standing up" for what I assume is the incredibly stupid "Black lives matter" [BAD WORD REMOVED].

Are you being serious? If so I feel bad for you because you are very ignorant of what is going on in this country.

Agreed. Though your sentiment was more in jest, I'm finding this to be a more and more common reaction. It's left me wondering if protest is ok anymore in the minds of Americans. It almost seems as if it is no longer a basic right.

Don't feel bad, try to educate. At the end of the day, if he doesn't know or understand what's going on, insulting him will not help the cause. "Hustling backwards"

If you do try to bring him up to speed and he decides to remain oblivious, he knew what was going on all along.

"Black lives matter" makes you a [BLEEP] and a racist.

"All lives matter" Smile

But there isn't a riot in the streets for 2 weeks when a non black person commits a felony and gets killed.

Would you tell someone who had breast cancer that their concerns are any less valid because "all cancers matter"? All lives matter is a very racist statement, in that it attempts to undermine and delegitimization the very valid criticism of the systematic oppression of all those in color. Read a book if you don't understand what I'm saying.
