Quote:That's the reason some people (including me) were disappointed when McCray barely played last year.
I liked McCray as well which is why i'm not emotional over the situation. We have a core to work with and develop so who's to say with a potent front 7, OUR Norman isn't already on the roster or even a few yrs away and younger than a 28yr old FA at that time.
Norman bosa championship.. Make it happen Dave.. This is ur opportunity to turn this franchise around.. Do it now while we have the chance.. Make that phone call make me proud brother.. Uve made me proud since day 1.. I've watched this team evolve before my eyes.. Now its time to watch us seperate from ourselves..

Straight facts?
You just said "wow, just wow" after someone said that Norman was meh before this past year. That is totally correct. He was a solid at best corner. The guy will be 29 this year, believe I saw something earlier saying that there is 2 CB's past the age of 32 playing in the NFL right now.
He also may very well be a big city guy like Vernon, if that's true and he's all in on SF/LA/NYC, we can't do [BLEEP].
Also, you keep saying we didn't make big splash moves but Jackson and Gipson were both splash moves. Just because their names don't get talked about in the media constantly doesn't mean they aren't elite level pieces. Gipson was a top 3 FS just two years ago and right behind the likes of Earl Thomas. Malik brings an elite interior pass rush with above average run stopping. I could care less if they aren't being talked about in the media if they play like that. That's how we will win games and get attention.

Yup, so keep barking Brklyn even though you didn't have any info saying the Jags didn't have strong interest.Just because they don't submit an offer within the first 4-5 hours doesn't mean we won't.
Screams Vernon to me though, sounds like he wants the big stage and bright lights of a big city. Which is fine.
Honestly, talk to Panthers fans. He was a solid CB before last year but nothing special. Played great last year in a contract year and deserves to get paid, but there is a risk here. Plenty of Panthers fans were saying before the tag was rescinded this guy is good but overrated.
If we get him, it'll be an awesome add that no one expected this late that could definitely be a big help to our defense. We can't control where he's going to go though. If we don't get him, we still have a very solid CB group that needs another option or two added via the draft, but can definitely hold its own.
Quote:The San Francisco 49ers and Jacksonville Jaguars are expected to show strong interest in All-Pro cornerback Josh Norman, whose franchise tag was rescinded Wednesday by the Carolina Panthers, two league sources told Yahoo Sports. The sources said the 49ers have surfaced as the "leading" candidate between the two franchises.

smh the Niners didn't want to sign any free agents all offseason and now they want him. Schefter said Norman wants to play in Cali but logically it just doesn't make sense to me. He'll be paying out the nose in taxes so he won't see anywhere near as much money with them as he would with us and if he wants sunshine and a beach we have that here too. He can go to Cali in his offseason. We also have a way better structure than the madhouse the Niners are running right now.
Question: Isn't Norman more of a Man or Trap Corner? Does it make sense to pay $18 million for a guy to play primarily zone coverage?
no he's zone press man exactly what we do
Quote:Norman is a special type of player. We didn't sign anyone like that.
Is he really? He's basically 29 and that was the first year he's had that I would consider much above average. Great year, but the only really good one he has had.

<p class="" style="font-style:inherit;font-weight:700;font-family:vectipede;font-size:19px;">The Carolina Panthers cornerback Josh Norman seems to be a prime candidate to have a breakout year in 2015. The question is did he already have that breakout year and should he be considered a Top 10 cornerback.
Quote:Is he really? He's basically 29 and that was the first year he's had that I would consider much above average. Great year, but the only really good one he has had.
As many others have said, he was quite good in 2014 also. As I don't think anyone else has said, last year was only his 4th season because he was mega old as a rookie. Coming from a small school day 3 pick I don't think year 1 being exposed after being thrown in the fire, year 2 not playing much, year 3 playing very well, year 4 perhaps the best corner in the league is that bad of a career trajectory.
As an aside, this is one of the reasons why I have said to give a bit of a downgrade to players that are turning 24/25 coming into their rookie seasons like Dodd. 2nd contract leverage could be tough when you're wanting a mega pay day and are already 28 yrs old.

<p style="font-size:26px;">However when a player of Norman's talent is simply let free with zero compensation clearly there is something else there
Quote: This is what came to mind on this end.
Being that the Panthers pick near the end of Round 1, it's going to be that much more difficult for them to get a ready made quality starter at CB in the draft. Something isn't adding up.
And, while Glazer is writing as if he knows nothing, there is way to much smoke not to be a flame somewhere if not an outright conflagration.
In the past Jay has tweeted a teaser while he confirms the facts. There is something else to this story.
Whether or not it's refusing to sign tender, why would Panther's rescind tag?
He is like Blackmon in that case, he is Carolina property and not paid.
By rescinding they get nothing since he is an UFA.
Could attitudes be that poisoned between team and player?
Rest assured this was on someone's Radar at the Bank and due diligence is being performed.
HeadSlap
Quote:Some teams made him a offer and jags not among them according to @jasoncole
Not making an offer within hours of him reaching the market does not necessarily mean not interested.
But there is an important question that I have not seen asked in this thread.
Does he fit our scheme?
He seems to excel in short zones. Not really a press, man cover guy.
Another question that someone DID ask. Where was he before last year?
Edit: Now I see these issues addressed.
More questions to ponder...
Assuming we sign Norman:
1. Would you draft Ramsey if he were the best on the board at 5? Some might think it overkill, but to me, a secondary of Norman and House/Prince at CB, and Gipson and Ramsey at S is appealling.
2. Would you be more receptive to a Tunsil if he were the best on the board at 5? Yes, but I would still prefer a defensive player at 5
3. Would you be more inclined to trade up from 5 to say 3? Yes, but only slightly, to the extent that a pick that would have otherwise been allocated to CB would then be available.
4. Would you be more inclined to trade up back into the bottom of the 1st round? Yes, but much more inclined than I would be trading from 5 to 3.
Lol at all the Norman not that good posts. Its funny, we can call Malik Jackson elite after one good year but Norman not that good.
Ramsey is my #1 in the draft buuut at this point I think I would take Jack or trade back or Bosa. We could go from 5-14 and get someone like Lawson or Jackson or Ragland and gain alot more picks
Less than a year ago a lot of the same posters were telling me Josh Norman wasn't good at all when we were talking about our season opener. Now you're all licking your chops to get.
I think Jacksonville is the best fit for him. You guys are on the rise, playing a terrible division, have plenty of money to pay them, no state income taxes, and you have chicks in bikinis at your games…what's not to love?
He was asking for around 16 million a year. He's not worth 16 million a year. But he is definitely a good player.
"Basically 29 years old...". The guy is 28 and turns 29 in December, so he's not basically 29. He's an elite talent and a massive upgrade to the worst secondary in the NFL last season. Dave almost threw 90 million at Vernon who is AVERAGE and will prove it this year. Any naysayers to potentially landing Norman unexpectedly are simply crazy.
