Quote:Aaron Colvin is not overrated! He was one of the only guys to make plays without a pass rush last season. If he were a FA, teams would be all over him.
He is overrated as in outside CB, in the slot he is good, but he is also suspended
Quote:Is he better than Norman?
Come on...obviously he isn't.

We are also paying Amukamara 5M and going to get a deal thats reasonable next year if he plays solid and stays healthy. Doesn't mean we have to go pay a 29 year old that is a questionable fit to upgrade him.
Quote:Where is it well known he is all for big cities? He is from a small town in NC, and always lived in NC, one report said he would like to play in Cali, that is all is known, that doesnt mean he wants to play in any big city that throws money at him.
There was a couple articles stating that he wants California. Does that not obviously say he wants a big city? SF/LA are two teams he wants to go to according to Schefter. I'd say that qualifies.

I've heard Dave and Gus for that matter say if we have a chance to upgrade our roster at any position, we will do it. This is that chance.

Exactly. So if we don't do anything regarding Norman we either don't like the fit or his age+what contract he wants.

Hmmm

That's the point. If we don't go after him then Dave obviously believes he isn't worth the contract. He would likely be an upgrade, maybe a huge one if he played like he did last year but there's a lot of question marks around him. Will he play well in this scheme, will he be able to play at a high level for multiple years do to his age? Paying him the 16 million he wants could end up meaning that we miss out on signing one of our own or signing a free agent next year that is more of a can't miss signing. Norman could easily come here and be just an above average corner that we would pay 16 million to. I would trust the coaching staff to decide if he could keep his level of play in this scheme. If not, then don't waste the money.
@fredtaylormade They like to use the term "rebuilding" if you have cap space and a GREAT player available. #GOgetHIM build around those strengths

Freddy T speaking truth. Even he thinks enough is enough.
Quote:Let me jump in that I'm not sold on Norman.  He has been average for the most part his previous seasons, had one really good contract year season, and the team that franchised him decided to let him go for who knows what reason?  All signs point to a scary free agent signing.

Brkly is the first person to turn around in a year after a bust season for Norman and blame Caldwell.  TMD as well on Twitter....you guys are saying the same thing on both platforms....
He was about 24 when he was drafted, he had the normal progression as any young player, he has only played 4 years, his rookie year was ok for a 5th round pick, his 2nd year he was hurt, and his 3rd year he started to come on as a good CB. Last year he broke out and had a huge year.

Its not like he was a 1st round bust and just had a big year once his contract was up. Only thing is he is older then your most guys going into the 5th year.
I hope we sign him, for no other reason than to spare us the weeping, anger and lamentations here if he doesn't. This will happen and Dave will get roasted, even though we will know nothing about why the tag was lifted, what was offered and where Norman wants to play.

Quote: we run a cover 3 with man principles on the outside... go watch how house played this past year, there was a reason a lot of times we matched him up with the other teams top WR and he was almost always in coverage when that guy was thrown too, the outside guys in our seahawks style cover 3 are basically in man coverage..

We = the Panthers. Sorry for the confusion.

You said Josh was an elite man to man corner....I was just letting you know the Panthers play very little man to man.
Did Norman become good all of sudden on his contract year. That means when he signs his big contract he will disappear again. Pass.
they just hammered the table for him to come to Jacksonville on NFL HQ. I think our office is asleep at the wheel if everyone else is seeing how much sense this makes lol

I've seen this a few times so I'll chime in. Josh has been playing at an elite level for 1.5 years. When we were 7-8-1 and made the late season run a lot of that had to do with Josh's play. He became a starter in the middle of that 2014 season and was fantastic. He shut down Julio twice and we won a ton of games in a row to make the playoffs.

When I came to this board before we played you guys last year I was preaching how good Josh was going to be. I got laughed at a lot by all of you. All Panthers fans saw it from the end of the previous season. The dude finally "got it", and a lot of that was he finally learned to play within our defense.

Josh was terrific last year. You guys saw his pick 6 week 1. But beyond that QBs just stopped throwing to him after around week 4. He's good - very good. I don't think I would put him up with the top shutdown man-to-man guys, but he's certainly a top 5 CB.

That's where the issues come into play. Carolina was willing to pay him $11M-$12M. Josh is asking for $16M and to be the top paid corner. That's just insane. I love the dude - he deserves to get paid like one of the best - but we weren't going to overpay him.

It's a sad day for us. Hope you guys can get him because he's great to watch and he's certainly a character.

Sounds good to me. Sign him Caldwell, now, do it noooowww. Him, house, prince, colvin. Bosa or Jack in the front 7 with Fowler wreaking havoc. The increase in talent causes Cyprien to become the pro bowl safety that we had envisioned. This D needs Norman's swagger and cockiness. CHhhhhhammmmppiioonnnnshhiiiippppppp.

Go back to my previous post, he is only going into his 5th year, and had a the normal player progression, would you say Malik Jackson only played good because it was his contract year? He got 90 mil

He hasn't signed anywhere yet.  Can people stop FREAKING OUT over this at least until he signs with another team?

How much did we hear about Gipson before he signed?
