Quote:In this mock draft the Jags make a couple of trades:
Free Agency:
Jets slap Franchise Tag on Muhammed Wilkerson
Rams slap Franchise Tag on Trumaine Johnson
Jags sign on first day of Free Agency:
1. Alex Mack - C - Browns - 8.5 MIl/Yr contract - immediate upgrade in the Jags running game
2. Janoris Jenkins - CB - Rams - 8 Mil/Yr contract - Jenkins is equilvalent to Hargreaves in this draft class - starts opposite House with Colvin manning the nickel CB spot
3. Olivier Vernon - DE/Leo - Dolphins - 8 MIl/Yr contract - Jags have their 2nd Leo pass rusher who is solid against the run.
4. Tashaun Gipson - FS - Browns - 8 MIl/Yr contract - Jags decide to not risk getting their FS in the defensive backfield
about a week later the Jags sign
5. Matt Forte - RB - Bears - 4 Mil/Yr - Jags have their backup RB
Draft:
When Chargers take Jalen Ramsey with the 3rd pick, the Jags make a trade with the Jets trading Pick 5 for Picks 20 (Rd 1) and 119 (Rd 4) PLUS Muhammed Wilkerson - DE
Muhammed Wilkerson will rotate with Odrick at the Big DE position -
Jags sign Wilkerson to a 12 Mil/Yr contract
Rd 1(20): Noah Spence - DE/Leo - Eastern Kentucky - Jags grab another Pass rushing DE whom they believe is a Top 10 selection who drops due to some baggage in college - Senior Bowl seals deals
Rd 2(38): Sua Craven - SS - USC - Jags decide that they need to upgrade over Jonathan Cyprien and take a player many view as another Troy Polamalu
Rd 3(69): Joshua Perry - Otto LB - Ohio State - Jags grab their new Otto LB - Skuta becomes a backup Otto and part of the Leo DE rotation
Jags trade Picks 105 (Rd 4) and 177 (Rd 6) for a late Rd 3 selection
Rd 3(93): Vernon Butler - DT - Louisiana Tech - Jags get another 3 Tech DT to rush the passer and stop the run.
Rd 4(119): Antonio Morrison - ILB - Florida - Jags take their backup MLB
Rd 5(141): Kevin Byard - SS - MIddle Tennessee - Jags take another S to push Josh Evans out the door
Rd 6(193): Victor Ochi - DE/Leo - Stony Brook - small school pass rushing demon that becomes a developmental Leo De
Rd 7(213): Ejiro Ederaine - OLB - Fresno State - backup LB and special team ace
There isn't a planet in this universe where Matt Forte signs with a team to be a backup for the money he's going to want.
This thread points to an issue the Jaguars have with the #5 pick. If Bosa and Ramsey have already been selected, what do the Jaguars do with this pick?
Conventional wisdom says select the best pass rusher available. By selecting that pass rusher will the Jaguars lose value on the pick? I mean will the Jaguars be selecting the 10th best player in the draft and not the 5th best player in the draft?
Maybe the Jaguars should just take Miles Jack. He is very fast and a great pass defender. What do you think?

I would hate to see Bosa and Ramsey both off the board by 5. As of right now, I would probably go Myles Jack or Tunsil if he was somehow there.

I've expressed this issue a few times in the draft threads. Bosa and Ramsey, for me are clear 1 and 2 for the Jaguars at #5. Should both be gone and no trade down opportunities exist? I'm not sure which way I want to lean yet. One of the two OTs likely will be there, so will the two corners. Could go DLine.

I hope this scenario doesn't happen. If it does happen I think you'd have to go with the best player available there regardless of position. Hope to goodness it's defense!
Jack is a good pick. Replace Skuta with him and put him in a Von Miller type role. With Fowler at LEO and Marks healthy, our pass rush should improve quite a bit.
It would be awesome if we could get one of the DTs in he second round. That position is loaded in this draft. Bullard, Allen, Billings, Reed, Clark etc.

And it seems like CB is very thin. Just an observation.
With Browns hiring Hue Jackson, I think they are locked into a QB at 2.
Now it's just what SD and Dallas do. I can't see SD passing on a tackle or Bosa for Ramsey. So that leaves Dallas. They are the bi wild card. Hopefully they go for offense so Ramsey will be our's.
Dallas will most likely go defense.
Their offense is in just as dire straits if not more so than their defense. They have no playmakers outside of Dez Bryant and their QB is old and can't stay healthy.

Pick Hargreaves or Alexander or trade back
I dont know where Jack would fit, he's pretty much a Telvin Smith clone, he cant play the middle he is not gonna push Telvin off the field and he is not a pass rusher, so you would be picking a roll player at 5, no thanks
Dallas could really use Treadwell. Witten is getting old and when/if Dez is hurt, they have no receivers that step up.

This is why I think we go pass rusher in FA + plus get Fowler back, (unless Bosa falls) then we can go DB Hargreaves, Alexander, or Ramsey at 5, 2nd round should have 1st round talent DTs on the board.
Where as 2nd round is gonna be hard to find 1st round talent CBs and pass rushers on the board

Jack is talented, but the OTTO needs to set the edge and take on blocks. That's not really Jack's strength. Taking Jack and putting him at OTTO/SLB, we'll likely need to make some kind of schematic change to protect him AND Telvin.

You think he'd fit more into a weak-side LB like Telvin rather than an OTTO? I thought he looked pretty good at shedding blocks and disrupting the backfield from what I saw.

Their offense dealt with injuries that would cripple any team. They can draft a RB and/or multiple receivers in the later rounds. They need lots of defensive help.

Their offense is old, which is why there were so many injuries.
Knowing Jerruh, he would love to pair Dez with Treadwell. Atleast that's what I hope.
Ramsey/Bosa/VH3/Smith/Jack would be fine with any of those 5 and wouldnt mind Alexander either
