Good thing he's still on the team. He's the only receiver on the roster that knows how to read defenses and find the holes.
Nice. Looks like hurns is still here!
Mike Kate said he was told there us no $4mil guarantee today. Only Sporttrac shows that, over the cap does not.

Who knows.

Mike Kaye said there was no roster bonus today, which there isn't. It's salary that gets guaranteed.

Over the Cap shows 7 mil guaranteed on the chart for 2018, but if you look at the notes above the chart it shows 4 mil in guarantees will activate in 2018.

I think their chart has a typo and Sporttrac is correct.

He is due to be paid 7 mil this year, 4 of which became guaranteed at 4 pm.

If we had cut him today we would have saved all 7 mil. After 4 pm, we can only save 3 mil if we cut him.

So it wasn't a roster bonus but 4 mil in guaranteed salary they were referring to.

There is a huge difference between a roster bonus and guaranteed salary when a trade is involved. In a trade, the old team has to account for any roster bonus they paid him, however, the new team is responsible for all of this base salary including his guaranteed salary. So by not cutting him, they guarantee he gets paid the $4 mil, however, his new team would have to pay it should they manage to trade him. In that event, you might expect him to be traded even if it's just for a conditional 7th round pick. With all of this in mind, however, I don't see them cutting him. That is, provided he is still on the roster, moving forward they either trade him or keep him.
I have a feeling a trade is in the works. Hopefully it’s not just a throw away pick.

Someone is getting cut with the TEs and WRs on the roster. He either stays for the year or gets traded before the draft. I think they keep the cheaper and younger WRs.

can't imagine anybody giving anything of value when player like Crabtree and Nelson get cut.

But Torrey Smith got traded, so you never know.
If he does get moved, let me be the first to thank Allen for the heart and competitiveness he demonstrated while representing the Jags.

From undrafted, to week 1 star production, to producing a 1,000/10 season...played through injuries, concussions, crawled off the field to save the team a timeout.

Always conducted himself with class, thanked the organization and his mother, and never complained or got out of line when others at his position group were having more success/opportunities.

A fine young man, and job well done to his Ma.

Also Hurns has recently removed Jaguars from his bio on twitter.

Perhaps they've decided to let him keep his 4 million but will cut/trade him after.

The removal if correct may indicate that they traded him or he is definitely leaving the team.

Correct O2.  Hurns signed a 4 year deal with $20m guaranteed.  In the first 2 years, between roster bonus and base salary, he has received $16m.  In 2018, Hurns remaining $4m of guarantee is base salary, not roster bonus.  If the Jags were to cut him, he would receive $4m from the Jags.  If the Jags keep him, he would be paid $7m in base salary this year, the $4m guaranteed plus the $3m not guaranteed.  If the Jags trade him, the new acquiring team would pick up the full $7m base salary, including both guaranteed and non-guaranteed figures.

Given the change Allen has made to his twitter account, the above figures, and the crowded WR corps, I would assume either the Jags have informed him that he is on the trade market, or he has asked the Jags to be traded. I don't believe Hurns wants to just collect a check on the bench for most of the games.

I take it he's been traded to a team with an accurate QB?

Maybe that 4 million came through?
The Ravens make sense for Hurns. Didn't they just nix a FA receiver signing when he failed a physical?
Dang 02, shots fired against Blake! Haha, I know you’re not his biggest fan, and you’re high on Lamar, but ouch.

That’s quite the jab from you. Cheers to hoping he proves you wrong.

(I’m not a Blake fanboy but I just don’t see how we could go QB early in this draft and not sacrifice value.)

Well said, and I couldn't agree more. This is a win-win situation as Hurns will go somewhere that will pay him more to play and the Jaguars save money.

The Ravens signed John Brown and Ryan Grant early, then Grant failed his physical and they signed Michael Crabtree to replace him.
I see no news on Hurns.  I think that means he's back.  I really don't get it.  Lee is clearly a starter.  The ink is still wet on Moncrief.  You can say he's unproven, etc., but I can't believe they would pay Moncrief that money if they didn't see him as a starter or at least a significant role player.  Personally, I like Cole better than Hurns.  Cole had 748 yards as a rookie.  With one exception, that's more yards than any season Hurns has ever had.  Hurns has had less than 500 yards in each of his last two seasons.  Although active in all 16 games, Cole only had 6 starts last year too.  With more playing experience and more playing time, I see good things from him.  I like Westbrook better than Hurns too.  He shows a lot of potential.  Mickens will also be active on game days to return punts.  Where does that leave Hurns?  I think he makes the team, assuming we keep six wide receivers, but he would be my game day inactive.  I don't see him playing much, barring injuries to other players.  Paying $7 million for that seems like a bad use of our money.

Why pay Moncrief $7 million and Hurns $7 million, when $14 million comes close to what A-Rob got in free agency?  We don't need a lot of players.  We need good players.  You can say A-Rob is a risk, but Moncrief isn't?

If we are going to spend $7 million on a backup, why not quarterback?  At least it's the most important position on the field and we currently have no one.

Alternatively, we could have used the money from Hurns to keep Colvin instead of Hayden and still have over $4 million of additional free cap room to spare.

This is a very strange move.  I hope there's some news of a secret trade, but I doubt it.  I think we would have heard by now.

There's still plenty of time to make a trade or two.  And Hurns can be good for that.  If not, we still have him and he either earns a roster spot or he doesn't.
